I will say I used to get a ton of previously watched videos recommended to me over and over until I enabled the feedback prompt (can't remember how). YT started asking if I wanted to watch a video and when I said no, it asked why. Selecting "already watched it" enough times stopped it from recommending me videos I previously watched.

This makes a ton of sense as to how Vtubers are so incredibly successful on YT. Literally all of their content is hours-long live streaming, the big groups getting in the 300k views or above per stream, nearly daily.
Yeah no shit. The current most subbed Vtuber always has 300k-500k views after the stream ended then after a few hours there will be at least many people who will watch the VOD adding another 200k-400k views on the VOD. Their accumulated live viewers watch time for May, June, July is almost 5 million. There's another Vtuber from their same company having 8 million watch time on the same quarter. That's even excluding the Superchats, even if there is some cuts from their company the revenue alone will make them swimming in money goddamn.
@@FrankToasty not to mention the biggest vtuber group, Hololive, also has tons of merchandise that they sell. Be it body pillows, voice packs, figurines, etc.

Don't forget about the download glitch talked in this video. There's SO MUCH clips of some moments from livestreams, so I suppose people are gonna be downloading this 3 hour videos to make clipping it easier and with better quality.
Meanwhile Vtubers graphs go *stonks* , cause algorithm registers downloading it as watching it again.
The download glitch refers to YT's built in download feature available to Premium users, if people make edits, they will be downloading via an external tool that probably doesn't give a damn if you have Premium or not.

Other exploit, having playlists (for sleep)
CZcams Playlists can be on repeat. You can put the same video in the same playlist multiple times, and have it auto play as you sleep. This is why there are so many "Sleep meditation relaxing music with rain" videos on CZcams, and they do amazingly well, as they are 4-10 hour long videos, that are watched by premium users (otherwise the ad spam ruins the video), and with that, crazy things happen.
Being a premium user, and seeing nothing but sleep music videos recommended in my feed and having to click "not interested" every day to try to cut it from dominating my feed entirely, has become a chore.
Any videos targeting sleeping audiences apparently do very well, especially if sleep isn't in the title. Ask Technoblade about this as well, as he seemed to be someone who had this phenomenon occur with one of his videos, and theorized roughly the same.
This can also work for short videos too, and would be the only counter to long videos

Exactly. I'm happy to support creators. I don't want ads. I got YT premium immediately. And I support my favorite short-form creators via Patreon. Guilty pleasures like RTGame get my viewtime, but the guy helping me build my own scanning electron microscope? He gets my money every month whether he manages to release a video or not.
Yeah I've also had it for so long that I forget that there are supposed to be a shitload of ads on here.

But I know CZcams sometimes auto-pauses the video and sends you a pop-up prompt asking if you're still watching whenever it gets suspicious that you're not, so if that happens it'd interfere with the revenue. I don't know what triggers it, and it could just be Chrome taddling on you when it's idle, so it might not happen on other browsers. It also happens to me more often with playlists rather than long videos.

The only reason I went premium was because the ad's were getting horrifically bad....way too many and very intrusive.

Netflix’s CEO once said “Our biggest competitor is sleep.” CZcams has turned that on its head and gotten their users to use while they sleep. But you can only do that if you pay.
Those 8 hour sleep videos might be an algorithmic manifestation to appease CZcams premium viewers.
Or if you, say, use CZcams Vanced and enjoy the whole background playback thing without paying for Premium.

Thanks for this. I have been thinking about getting Premium for a long time. Only thing that stopped me was that I wasn't sure if the content creators maybe get less because there are no ads. Knowing it is actually better for them made me seal the deal. 😀
CZcams Premium makes sense to me because it's cheaper here in the US than even Spotify Premium on its own, but also includes music for our Google Homes, Android Auto, etc..
Same for me. Costs 7€ for me im Europe. And it combines my old youtube playslists into the music app. Never had a need for spotify.

@@peterimu Depends. Small indie ones ranging from zero to hundreds live viewers daily (not total views, but viewers who watch the stream at the same time). Major ones (often agency backed) get thousands daily, with peak at hundreds of thousands at special live events.
One of them (Pekora ch) is in this year top 5 most viewed female streamers, with Valkyrae as the only one who comes from CZcams that is above her. However Valkyrae still mostly relies at classic youtube videos rather than live streams, so for category of CZcams livestreamers she's the biggest female streamers right now (although take note that while top 5 of female streamers sounds impressive, the overwhelming majority of biggest streamers are still male)

Pewdiepie talked about something similar to this back in the day before all the drama, he even made a video that was slowed down to 75% so you would watch the video at 1,5x speed and it would count as 50% more watch time than you had to spend watching

I always worried that I wasn't giving my favorite creators any money because I wasn't getting ads, but I'm glad my premium is being given to them :)
Paying for Premium seems like a better option than paying Spotify. So I use premium and I don't think I'm going to stop unless they raise prices.
I actually switched from YT to Spotify because I tend to stick to podcasts, Spotify started having download issues (I live in a spotty signal area and don't have home internet) so I switched back. It's at least more reliable.
Btw do you also get gifts at the end of the year?
I basically didn't pay for premium 2 years ago, because they send me a google home thingy, that was as expensive as the couple months of premium i took for that year.
Sadly though, i thought it was a one off thing and cancelled to save money for christmas. Turned out people got stadia controllers and chromecasts too.
So in the end it costs probably half of what you pay upfront

Agree. Spiff exposing this probably helps YT a lot more than it would do harm. The fact that creators get more revenue from Premium users must mean that a Premium user is more profitable for YT than someone only consuming ads.
Well I'm super glad I've accidentally been really really helping my favorite creators. I'm very busy, so I have to stop watching videos a lot and go back to them. I always download any videos I have to stop watching and then most of the time it's 50/50 I forget I downloaded it and just search up the video, or I go watch the download. I also have had a nice habit of redoawnloading the same videos a lot after I clear them all out. Thanks for the info!
This video was recommended to me and it's the first of yours I've seen, so your method works!
I mean think of it like this: animator creates an animation, and during the creation of that animation they stream the creation of the animation. Given the amount of time and work it takes to create a single animation, especially ones longer then say 10-30 seconds, this means the animator could easily have several 8+ hour livestreams raking in tons of cash before the final full animation is put up. So really, all you did was given them a way to monetize better.
This is pretty cool and possibly could allow animators to be paid a nice amount without having to have a super super huge audience?
That is a great idea, IF that animator's audience is willing to watch (or download through Premium) those livestreams. But most people that will watch a 2 minute animation aren't the kind to watch that animation being created over the course of hours.
There is also the nerve-wracking job of trying to make the process seem interesting and the animation still being quality at the end. Cause the process can be really tedious...
best way is to probably livestream the animating itself

I don't know if YT is necessarily that pleased about it, considering most of these exploits otherwise fly sufficiently under the radar that they can just ignore it and not fix it. They don't care if there's an exploit, they only care if there are tons of people using and/or criticising it.
The reason he's not banned (and why he got unbanned) is because he's a sufficiently large creator whose loyal following would shred CZcams for banning him over an exploit, which they should be busy fixing rather than hiding. If any smaller creator pulled this kind of thing, I can guarantee you that they would delete the account without a second thought, which is probably what happened when this channel got deleted. Like, you can bet that some idiot moderator, who didn't know about the channel and hadn't noticed its content and subscriber count, hit the delete button without a second thought because who cares about some nobody creator.
What's particularly stupid is that everyone knows YT completely ignores any bug/exploit reports, even from all but their biggest partnered creators, unless it ends up trending on CZcams or Twitter. So to then delete his account for being exploitative, when a video like this is the only way that they'd listen to him about an exploit anyway, is even more outrageous. I hope all their moderators have received a lovely email from their managers telling them who The Spiffing Brit is and how they're not to touch his account without top-level permission, because I for one will happily put up a massive stink on all platforms if they should presume to so flippantly delete him again.

Best part is you don't just have to do this to Spiff, you can do this for anyone. If you can livestream a game that's popular but doesn't have many livestreams for it you can flood the algorithm with your videos and then boost your own.
@@AmbrotosArkhon Not really. You can do this for *anyone*, but not for *everyone*. If you do this for too many people then you're just back at splitting your premium revenue among all of them, it doesn't generate more money the more you watch, it makes the split lobsided.

the only way I can think to patch it would be to either disable downloading, not pay for downloaded videos, or shove in some drmesc tracker for play times. I don't know how premium downloads work. are they all in app or just a avi or something?

Well that worked, because I'm a youtube premium member who was randomly recommended this video and I watched it because I'm interested in this topic. I already knew my watch time can disproportionately help creators in comparison to my watch time without premium but I didn't know that downloading can help like that. Fuck yeah! I pay premium in part for the ad convenience and also largely to help the creators. You'd best believe I'm gonna do this on videos and creators I really want to support. Ah, this makes me miss having CZcams Premium. I had originally gotten it before they raised the price. I've a looot of complaints about YT Premium, but what made it worth it for me was that I could guarantee that I was practically the bottom of a wishing well wherever I went. Being able to support creators I love without having to listen to stupid ads was so satisfying.

I drive for a living and let youtube play all day, 10 hours a day, no ads and can shut off my screen. Helping the people i watch is a cool bonus

CZcams apparently takes 45% of the earnings from both ad and premium revenue and the remaining 55% goes to the creators.
Patreon apparently takes 5-12% of the earnings.
So if your goal is to support the creators you like, then using Patreon would be far more effective per dollar.

something else that seems broken is making a 2 hour "best of" video for the year. seems like every time i go to sleep watching ScottTheWoz or CallMeKevin those videos are always playing when I wake up, even though I've seen them dozens of times
Ive seen that VOD like 6 times. in fact, I wake up to it almost every night when i fall asleep watching CZcams because unless i fell asleep to a let's playlist with like 40 vids... CZcams will EVENTUALLY play that video on autoplay.

This explains why short form content has literally took over recommended algorithms for *looks at clock* TWO STRAIGHT years. Cuz people just download them potentially dozens of times per person
I got CZcams premium as an accidental “imma try this free trial” which lead to me really liking being able to close the app and listen to videos or just not having to watch ads. A lot of the videos I watch you can simply understand what is being discussed or what is going on based solely on the audio leading to a lot of let me check my email or respond to texts without pausing the video. Not having ads is one of the best features ever, I am impatient and sometimes a 2 minute long grammarly video that you can’t skip for a 4 or 3 minute video, just didn’t seem worth it, every time I did it I felt like a monster but I couldn’t justify spending a minimum of 2 minutes watching a video with ads for one specific part when I could just scroll to the right part without ads and take about 35 seconds.
The algorithm autoplays that livestream while I sleep, I've woken up to Spiff in RimWorld many times over the past year, no matter what I was watching previously. Algorithm must love Yorkshire.

I got premium just so I can listen to stuff while at work with the screen off. No ads is a great side benefit. Now I’ve learned I’m equal to over 1,000 ad viewers. Just wow.
