- Well my youtube channel was deleted! It wasn't exactly my best moment as I managed to delete my own youtube channel by falling for an incredible scam from someone posing to be an official youtube employee. Naturally I wasnt the only channel affected by this recent wave of youtube scams and youtube exploits. The legendary anti scam lord @JimBrowning was also caught out by this elaborate ruse you can check out his video "My channel was deleted... HOW?" for more details on this scam.
As always videos and exploits will continue in good time. We are still planning a youtube live stream to celebrate my birthday later in the week and we will also be making videos on many more youtube algorithm glitches that we uncovered over the last few weeks. August is going to be a very busy month! But here we have it the spiffing brit is back and soon we will have a lovely montage of more youtube tips!

Having a lovely chat with the scammer who *just almost cost you your livelihood* is possibly one of the most British things I've ever heard.
"You must do something *URGENTLY* or something bad will happen" is one of the most common lines used by scammers, and as shown in the video, can relate to anyone. Legitimate businesses usually try their best not to scare their customers, especially those that generate them a lot of ad revenue, so their way of communication reflects that. Stay vigilant, drink only Yorkshire Tea and be spiffy.

Everything CZcams does sounds like scam by default (and often enough is). That's a bit like living among wolves and telling people to stay safe by not opening the door if they hear a growl.

thank you for admitting that you were scammed, that is really hard for a lot of people to do but the truth is *anyone* can get scammed. it is super good of you to make this video.
I absolutely hate the stigma that comes with scamming. Not only do you screw innocent people over in these cases, but they also have to deal with the emotional and societal fallout of the scam as well. Everyone likes to think they'd know better once it's laid out for you. Most average people know to check the email information these days (I learned to do so couple decades ago) specifically because anyone can change the superficial info it shows in the forefront. If the "official" information looks legit and it's also from a domain that's tightly guarded, I can definitely see how you'd be more likely to let your guard down.
People need to be more empathetic with some of rhe scamming victims.
I love that you can joke about this now. It was heartbreaking seeing you on twitter panicking at the time.

I got a similar kind of scam via discord trying to get my steam account, my response, call the bluff. "Well rip my steam then, bye" threw them off guard now THEY are in backpedal keep the scam going mode... then stop I stop responding.

Spiff is a major CZcamsr, so CZcams feels the pressure to immediately fix it. If it was someone with less reach, they probably wouldn’t even bother to resolve the issue because there would be no pressure.
Jim Browning fell for this as well and his whole channel is about catching scammers.

The main reason he fell for it was due to the situation he had just gotten a new phone and signed in to his CZcams and etc on the new phone so when he gets an email saying he has an identical “revenue” account he puts 2 and 2 together

I find it hilarious that Spiff held some degree of respect for the guy because of the circumstances.
I doubt it, he probably did what Jim did and tried to flatter him to get him to fuck up somewhere like he did in both cases
As long as the delete was not permanent, i can easily understand the respect. And as many creators have been impacted, it looked like the scam was well thought out, cheers for spiff for this awareness video.

We should thank you and Jim Browning (and anyone else for that matter) for bringing this scam into awareness. Now less people can be scammed by this tactic.
So, pro tip from tech support: Email addresses mean nothing. Literally. We regularly get emails from "ourselves" informing us of some amazing business opportunity. It is apparently called email spoofing, and exploits the minor issue that emails were meant to be a small in-house communication method...
Yup, working in Cyber Security, and A LOT of emails that we come across have spoofed sender address, but what makes this specific scam different is that the email did actually come from google’s domain, as it was not send by the user, but instead from the google chat service, the scammer really managed to find a good social engineering trick
Internal flags are a godsend for this
@@amahlaka couldn't work otherwise, gmail checks e-mail routing data vs sender domain, it would have included a warning when opening the e-mail if sender domain was spoofed.

You can also set any random address to an e-mail "from" line. Unless you look into the e-mail headers, you might not notice that the mail is from some other address.

Yep. Anyone can get scammed in a moment of inattention. One of the most difficult things I have when helping people who get scammed at work is that they tend to lie or mislead what exactly happened, because they feel stupid for getting scammed and don't want to admit to doing something that looks so dumb in hindsight.
@@stephen7630 Throwing good money after bad is a personality trait that scammer definitely take advantage of. I've had people cuss me out when I tried telling them the IRS doesn't accept Ebay cards as payment.

@@ZackTanTYZ actually makes sense because some people like hackers, con men and scammers do it for clout to gain a reputation in their circles
Spiff deserves a mile of slack because he doesn't present himself as an authority on this type of stuff. Browning falling for obvious social engineering is more an indictment of his own competance, but if CZcams teaches us anything it's that you don't actually have to be competant in your own field in order to appear like you are to people who have zero experience in that field.
