I know I'm a bit late but I was looking up information for my Toro Titan Max and the owners manual it states, "Hydraulic Fluid Type: Toro® HYPR-OIL™ 500 hydraulic fluid or Mobil 1 15W-50 oil. "
The Hydro-Gear ZT-3100 transmission website for the transmission in my Toro states:
"Use engine oil with a minimum rating of 9.0 cSt (55 SUS) at 230° F (110° C) and an API classification of SL is recommended.
A 20W50 engine oil has been selected for use by the factory and is recommended for normal operating procedures."
When looking up the viscosity per the SDS for a few oil options here is what they were rated at 100C:
    Toro Hypr 500 = 18.2cst
AMSOIL hydrostatic transmission fluid = 19.4cst
    Mobil 1 15W50 = 19.5
And John Deere Hygard = 9.2 (oddly low and verified not the HyGard Low Vis at 7.4)
While the Hydro Gear website is based ff a warmer rating I would doubt that the viscosity would be cut in half by 10° C.
Be careful when getting fluid changes and fluid from the dealership. I know mine uses JD Hygard which I switched out and my transmission is much quieter and smoother.

i bought a 60 inch new in the first part of 21 from TSC. it has 66 hours on it now as i only mow about 1/2 acre and the right trans starts to slip when hot. do you think doing a service will correct the issue? thanks in advance, ken

I'm curious if you tried Kentabler... I have the same issue and am hoping to change and fill the fluid. At least it's a cheap repair. My question is... can you drain the transaxel from above using suction? Removing it looks like a PITA.

@@charleswaters455 i have not tried it yet, but im going to have to as soon as i get the fuel starvation iss fixed. not sure if you can drain it with a suction device bur there should be a drain plug on it i believe

@@kentabler290 Sadly, there is no drain on the unit used on the 54" units. You just remove the transaxel, open the fill drain and flip it over to drain. :(

Yes, Toro made the "mower", but they did not make the hydraulic wheel motors. So, why not use the Hydro-gear branded oil as they are the OEM for the wheel motors and most likely the oil that is contained in the hydro motors when built/delivered? I notice that Toro does not even recommend the Hydro-gear branded oil as an option. Doesn't make sense to me unless Toro is just wanting to guarantee some sales of their own brand of oil.

Honestly only a few blenders make oil for everybody, Toro’s testing facility is the largest and highest budget in the USA and they have spec’d this oil for the conditions these machines work. It’s as good as any, it’s available at every Toro dealer, it keeps your warranty in good standing and it’s priced competitively.
