- We've had a bucket list of places to visit on our narrowboat from the start, and in this episode we check one off! We cruise our narrowboat north on the Trent & Mersey Canal, through Great Haywood Junction, stopping off at the National Trust's Shugborough Hall, and on to Tixall Wide, on the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. It was as beautiful as everyone promised!
Hello! We're Caroline and Pete, and in 2021, after 10 years living in Texas, we sold up and moved back home to the UK to live full time aboard a 60ft narrowboat with our West Highland Terriers! Join us in our day to day life as we continuously cruise the canals and rivers of the UK. All of the ups, and the downs and everything in between!

Being local (from Rugeley) these vlogs we find particularly special. The iron bridge 72a has been dubbed Fancy Bridge. As I’m sure you are aware but your viewers may not be, (I believe it is mentioned in the Nicholson’s Guide) this bridge was supposedly built by the Anson family from the Shugborough Estate so that they could use their carriages for Church on Sundays as the pack horse bridge known as Essex Bridge wasn’t wide enough. Of course they couldn’t walk! 😄

That’s all ground we’ve covered today. We stopped for lunch at at Tixall Wide yesterday. Guess where we are moored tonight? Just past the noisy railway you stopped at 🤣 xx

Yes i enjoyed this video Tixall wide is a fantastic spot to stay at at 13-20 i see you have an Iron Mountain Road mug from the Black Hills, I snow ploughed from Keystone to Custer state Park and back to Rushmore and Hill city the winter of 84/85 and it was a fun job for a young 43 year old English man. brought back lots of memories I have watched your videos since your start you have great photos of beautiful England more memories thank you look forward to your videos take care and happy days Ed 40 S of Vegas in the desert xx
What a wonderful comment to wake up to Ed! Your eagle eye did indeed spot a Black Hills mug! Our son Alex is an actor, and was part of the Black Hills Playhouse company for 3 summers in Custer State Park. It was such a beautiful area to visit in the summer, but I can imagine in winter the snow ploughs are in great demand! They actually had snow in May for Alex’s first year there! He bought Pete back that mug as a reminder of our wonderful times there. South Dakota is truly a hidden gem! Thank you so much for watching and I’m glad we can bring a little bit of England to you 😊

I think I'd like to live on a narrowboat. I already live in a 14×65 foot mobile, and I think a boat would be cool.

Did you see the Kingfisher whilst you were there? Last year he followed me from just past the junction, then darted down to the river across my boat. He returned a few seconds later with a mouthful of fish! X
We had one doing exactly the same! Darting ahead and just as we came upon him he darted off again! It’s just beautiful isn’t it 😊
We moored in Great Haywood Marina for 4 months over this last Winter. The Farm Shop was definitely a regular must for their bloomer loaves and jacket spuds! HS2 is going over part of the land the Marina is on, such a pity. 😡☹️
Everywhere we see construction for HS2 we think what a shame! That would be perfect mooring so close to the farm shop, but not great for the waistline! So many yummy choices of cake and other goodies! 😊
Tixall Wide is my favourite place, absolutely love it, beautiful scenery in all seasons ❤

We often say how we have a new appreciation for the beauty of the British countryside since we returned Leigh! You get such a different perspective traveling by canal instead of road 😊
