  • As the title reveals this is a short fan made Star Trek tribute film...
The film is written, directed, edited and post-processed by me (janowski4563), a true Star Trek "nerd" who, since watching the Star Trek original series on TV as a child, have had a dream to make a film with the story set in the wonderful future created by Gene Roddenberry. With the help of some dedicated friends, colleagues and students, as well as the fortunate possibility to use the studio and production equipment at the school where I teach media production, I/we gave it a shot...
With no budget at all (if you don't count the few Star Trek uniforms and a bunch of 3D/AE plugins that I personally invested in), gradually having learned more and more about CGI work in AE throughout the three years(!) long project (by trials and countless errors), and a bunch of necessary compromises and "kill-your-darlings" along the road to keep the allowed maximum lenth for a Star Trek fan production (15 mins), the film is finally ready.
    Filmed on Canon EOS 800D.
    Edited on Adobe Premiere Pro.
Post production and CGI made in Adobe After Effects (with great help of the Video Copilot plugin "3D Elements").
Music compiled using "Pro Scores - Cinematic Music Design Tools", purchased from Video Copilot.
    All actors/actresses are dedicated amateurs.
We have strived to make the project in accordance with the rules for Star Trek fan films found on this page:
    intl.startrek.com/fan-films
“Star Trek and all related marks, logos and characters are solely owned by CBS Studios Inc. This fan production is not endorsed by, sponsored by, nor affiliated with CBS, Paramount Pictures, or any other Star Trek franchise, and is a non-commercial fan-made film intended for recreational use. No commercial exhibition or distribution is permitted. No alleged independent rights will be asserted against CBS or Paramount Pictures.”

I am ever amazed at how much a layman can accomplish with only household computers and common household tools. The Trek fandom, and others as well, have taken it upon themselves to further and guide their fantasy universe to beyond the final frontier. And....I love the creative sparks they bring to one of MY favorite universes as well. Thank you for stretching my imagination too. I enjoyed your film very much.

Uniforms, acting, background and equipment is all over the place - exactly as i would imagine a research station in the Star Trek universe. As i am related and friends with several laboratory staff members in real life, i can surmise that this is exactly the conditions research staff have to work, reused working clothes, equipment that work due to duct tape and prayer, and so on.

Thank you all for your mainly kind comments! Like it said in the description we had to make quite a deal of compromises to, not at least to keep it within the Star Trek fan films guidelines, but it finally ended up finished. I have now decided, mainly because of your very kind comments, to make a sequel, where hopefully much of what was cut out of the first episode will be explained. Thank you again for your support and kind comments! 🙂

I love the pacing, the editing, the characters and the intrigue. This is in my opinion a cut above some other offerings out there, with all due deference to those fan films making the effort. I shall do my best to spread the word. On a different note I must declare my completely mature and sensible schoolboy crush on Dr. Cillinopoulos. Don't tell anyone though! 😄

Great job cast and crew! It is amazing to see the seeds of the original Star Trek grow in so many directions. From all the series, movies and most of all the fan films. They don’t often have the big budget or the most technical sets, but it is still storytelling just the same. Remember, your critics make you stronger. Thanks for the journey!

I really enjoyed this! It was really engaging. Like the others, I am curious to learn more about these characters - as much as the story. Very nice job everyone!
