Capital One Venture X - The #1 Credit Card of 2024?

  • In this video we are doing a Capital One Venture X review to see if the Venture X is really the best travel credit card of 2024. Many people talk about how great the Capital One Venture X card can be, but is the Venture X worth it for the $395 annual fee? We’ll go over everything you need to know about this popular travel credit card such as the welcome bonus, the credits, and other features that come with the Venture X.
    Personally, I think Capital One has done a great job at creating one of the best credit cards for travel. They packed a lot of value into the Venture X credit card, so many people that travel a moderate amount will be able to easily justify the annual fee. The Capital One Venture X is also a great catch all card because it earns 2x miles per dollar on everything. Additionally, it can be used to earn 10x miles on hotels and car rentals and 5x miles on flights when booked through the Capital One Travel Portal. This travel portal has a really nice price matching feature, so you should be able to get the best prices no matter what.
    The Venture X also gives unlimited access to Capital One Lounges for you and up to 2 guests. Other airport lounge access on the this card includes Priority Pass Lounges and Plaza Premium Lounges as well.
    Overall, the Capital One Venture X is a great card for the price you pay. The value from the $300 annual travel credit and the 10,000 mile anniversary bonus will easily offset the $395 annual fee each year. On top of that, the 75,000 mile welcome bonus and other features make this card worth it for many people. However, if you’re not a traveler or you prefer cash back instead, then the Venture X might not be a great fit for you.

    The Venture X is a card that I don't see myself canceling with how easy it is to get positive value from with even just one trip a year through their portal, but at the same time, I don't think it's as premium as people make it out to be. It's a great middle ground between cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred and a true premium card like the Amex Platinum which puts it in a category of its own, and that's good and bad in some ways. Definitely still a powerful card as it sits right now though! Great video as always brotha 👊🏼
    Side note: The Hertz Presidents Circle status has been one of the most underrated benefits of this card for my personal use. It's been amazing!

      @larsfreeburg1535 Před 3 měsíci

      I think the Amex plat lost a lot of its exclusivity and Amex customer service lacks what it once was. Though I agree with your overall statement, it’s hard to call the amex play a “true premium” card

    Great video. As they say mileage may vary. I travel 99% of the time with my family and value transferring 120k Chase points more for a Hyatt resort for a week then for a nicer round trip flight, that being said 100% of my Chase points go to Hyatt (I have gotten well over 4cpp on redemptions) and the VX is my PP airport lounge card that mostly sits in the sock drawer aside from the once a year use of the $300 credit because I book direct with hotels and airlines and not through portals. The VX transfer partners are not great from a hotel perspective and with their airline partners I would have to search for award flights and that does not allow for flexibility when traveling with family

    • @annwaltzer

      @@annwaltzer I have the CSP (with CFU and CFF) and I have the Hyatt card too, I’m still within my first six month promotional period of the Hyatt card so the 2x now is better than the 1.5x catch all on the CFU. After the 6 months the Hyatt card will be only used for Hyatt stays / free night as the multipliers are not beneficial and less than the CFU etc.

    One thing I will say about the Capital One portal is they really are limited in rental car options. I'm currently in Montreal on vacation and wanted to try out the Hertz status that comes with my card. Unless I wanted to book from the airport I had to use another company, like Budget and Alamo, as there were no Hertz locations offered besides the airport. I even found a Hertz location in downtown Montreal with cars available for my dates, but it was missing from the travel portal. The same goes for Enterprise and National. Ended up booking an Alamo car instead.

    • @AdamBA380
      @AdamBA380 Před 5 měsíci +3

      Heads up Hertz presidential status doesn’t rely on use of the Capital One travel portal. You just have to register for it through Capital One and you can book directly with Hertz. Once you have Presidential status you can then status match with a couple other rental companies.

      In situations like this, it helps to call Capital One. Capital One travel agents will book a car for you and they can often find something on their end that you couldn’t find within the portal.. it’s a little weird and perhaps annoying to have to do that extra step. But it’s worth it if you’re very particular about what agency you like to rent cars from or what cars you get 🤷‍♂️ I’m sure there’ll be times when even Capital One agents can’t find what you’re looking for, but it never hurts to try.

    If you don't mind travel portals, and don't care about hotel status, the Venture X is a great card. My wife and I travel about once or twice a year domestically (internationally every couple years), plus buying travel for her family. None of us care about status or a particular hotel chain, so the portal works great for us.
    If status matters to you, or you only stay at a certain hotel chain or fly a certain airline, or you don't like portals, the VX might not be the card for you.

    doesn't adding the annual $300 travel credit into the evaluation assume we will be booking the travel through the Cap 1 system? so for Year 1 if someone only wanted to book directly, it would be a $435 value? and Year 2 and beyond the AF would be $295?

      The $300 can’t be combined from year to year. But basically the $300 travel credit in the evaluation assumes that you will use it if you travel even 1-2 times per year. The good thing with Capital One travel is that they price match like I talked about - so from a pricing perspective it makes sense to use that travel credit first instead of booking direct

    Caveat Emptor: Capital One continously takes away benefits. Priority Pass restaurants now only lounges. $300 travel stipend that allowed you to earn points on spending now only a coupon that forces you to use with their travel portal. Hertz President's Circle elite status ending in 2024. Lounge access might be next on the chopping block. No Capital One lounges in Boston Logan airport only DFW, IAD, and DEN. • @chijason6630
      @chijason6630 Před 5 měsíci +2

      If you are doing any traveling, the Venture X is a no-brainer. The Venture X has a $395 annual fee, but the $300 travel credit via portal + 10k miles anniversary bonus gives it a positive yearly value - at 2 cents/mile, Capital One is giving you $95/year to keep the card (so long as you use the portal credit). The Venture comes with neither the travel credit or anniversary bonus, so the effective annual fee is the same as the listed fee - $95. Add in the lounge access, Hertz status, 10x on hotels and rental cars (Venture is 5x), and travel protections (not on the Venture), and the Venture X is a clear winner.
      Also, there are still referral links floating out there for a 90k bonus on the Venture X - I got the card in September 2023, when there was a publicly available link for a 90k welcome bonus.

    Everyone loves to talk about the card, but no one has tried to take a crack out how they will justify the annual fee increase when it inevitably happens. I think Ive seen someone say that the fee will be 495 which sounds right, and the travel coupon/credit will be broken down to two 200 credits where you use one in the first half of the year and the other in the second half.
