Kai Havertz is MISUNDERSTOOD- The Raumdeuter Role, and HOW Havertz will fit Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal

  • The video analyses the Raumdeuter Role, coined by Thomas Muller, in football, and how it applies to Kai Havertz play-style.
    I argue that we as football fans have misunderstood Havertz importance as a player and signing for Arsenal for this very reason.
    His ability to drift into dangerous half spaces, anticipate and be in the right place at the right time, find pockets of space across the final third make him the perfect signing for Arsenal.
    Signed for £60-65 million pounds, I will then use this new information to explain how Kai Havertz will fit into Arteta's Arsenal system as a Raumdeuter, and make sense of a transfer that initially confused many, but has me very excited.
    He also contributes defensively, with intense pressing, but this is NOT a reason for him being able to play the left-hand sided number 8 position for Arsenal I make clear. There has been quite a bit of debate surrounding where Havertz will play specifically under Arteta in the 2023/24 season, but his ineffability and Raumdeuter qualities make this redundant- he will occupy each position of our front line and midfield at some point.
    This channel covers the entire Premier League, including Man United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Postecoglou, Pep Guardiola, Klopp, Pochettino, Ten Hag, the Champions League, and much more!

    The best example of this type of player in recent time is Thomas Muller. I always wondered why Muller seems to disappear in 90% of a game until he pops up and scores or assists. You explained it perfectly well.

      @@piusokwu3560I'd argue that he was pretty clinical in 22/23, surpassing his xG of 4.28 to score 7 goals. I think the "issue" with Xhaka was his mobility/agility with the ball which Harvertz might be better at.

    The idea of Rice and Havertz, and Jesus, and Odegaard, and Trossard all combining, that is an incredible amount of control. That’s powerful. They can all score from far, and pick a killer pass, beat a man and stick it in the net. We will pepper a few teams this season.

    As a former coach myself I like the tactical breakdown and explaination to how Havertz is best deployed to suit his attributes.
    My own interpretation in light of the volume of negativity that erupted upon our interest becoming public and intertwined with the ill conceived notion that we'd imitate the folly of Chelsea in playing him at center forward, or adding 2 + 2 together and counting 5 in him being the replacement for Xhaka, is that he'll be the attacking midfielder with license to link across the front 3 as well as break from midfield in a similar fashion as Eden Hazard used to do for Chelsea in not being shackled to a specific position.
    However, in order to accommodate this attacking reinforcement and reap the dividends, my preference would be to move away from a back 4 with a full back inverted as an auxiliary midfielder but instead have a dedicated back 3 along with a proper defensive midfielder anchoring the base of midfield so Rice and Odegaard can dictate the center of the pitch in front of him while he effectively becomes an auxiliary defender, pretty much a reversal of what we did with Zinchenko last season.

    Ok. My frost time seeing this channel, and because I give myself deeply to understanding the ideology of Johan Cryuff, Pep and Arteta; i was absolutely impressed with your explanation of the role of Havertz because I rate him as the biggest signing of Arteta, similar to Odegaard! I know Rice is coming but I’m not excited about him like I am about Havertz!
    Last season we suffered a lot with Xhaka. I used to tell people that Xhaka was a weak link in interpreting the way Arteta wants him to play; but credit to Xhaka, he went all out to prove how much he really wanted to evolve, but Havertz will shine in the same education, far more than Xhaka could ever have managed.
    Credit to Arteta, he allowed Xhaka to leave at his best getting a 5 year contract we couldn’t give him.

    Great post. I think Xhaka was already playing the space as left 8 to a degree, freed up by Zinks coming in as second pivot. Havertz probably has the attributes to do this better but his skills at pressing will be needed in a more disciplined midfield role when not in possession. Just a thought... there could be some mirroring of position and role with Odegaard? so when Zinks is the second pivot and we have a traditional right back, Havertz will be allowed the free role from left 8, but when Timber is second pivot from RB and we have, for example, Tierney as a traditional LB, perhaps Odegaard will have the Raumdeuter role from right 8, with Havertz more a mediopunto 10?

    • @harveygration
      @harveygration  Před 10 měsíci

      Thank you for taking the time to comment, very kind of you. And yes agreed In attack this could definitely be the case. We will see him linking play in this space, running BTL etc, even drifting into the CF or advanced 10 role. Just think people are slightly overlooking the defensive attributes required in a LHS 8 (out of possession): positional awareness for ex, and initial build up they need to be able to drop deeper and help out the pivot. Irrespective of who inverts. And yes thank you his pressing- will be used as one of the front two in our 4411 or 442 if he starts most likely. That’s my opinion anyway :)

    I also think we’ll operate in a diamond midfield.
    Zinchenko will inherit a more confined and coherent version of the Xhaka role as an inverted LB operating higher than last season in the left half.
    Odegaard will be an advanced 8 sort of playing the Gundogan role in the right half.
    Havertz the raumdeuter will serve primarily as a 10, the fluidity and unison of dynamics between Jesus our false 9 and Havertz our Raumdeuter will be football heritage.
    Rice the complete modern 6 permitting and authorizing our creative players with space and possession.
    Our back 3 through our high line formation will support Rice in the half space with canceling transitions and preventing counters through interception and counter pressing.
    I’m so excited to see what Arteta is going to do with our new squad.
    Brilliant video🎉

      It can be translated as 3-2-1-1-3, our regular back three of gabriel, saliba and white/timber, two man CMs, zinchenko and rice, ødegaard in front of them and havertz in front of ødegaard, then martinelli, jesus and saka, but a 4-3-3 on paper

    Do you think that Rice was bought to structure and enforce further space and freedom of play for our new front 4/5
    With Zinchenko supporting him in the half space to cancel transition attacks and counter plays from the opposition?
    I’d like to know how you think Rice coexists with Odegaard an advanced 8 and Kai a Raumdeuter.

    • @harveygration
      @harveygration  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Hi there, thanks so much for commenting. I think what makes rice so brilliant is that he has the potential of being elite as a 6 (arguably already is) and an 8. As a 6 he will most likely partner whichever fullback who inverts (zinny, timber, Partey), creating an incredibly mobile and dynamic 3-2/2-3 axis at the back. As an 8 he can play on the left, Odegaard remaining in the right half space…and as for Havertz…he can either play an even freer role to what we have seen from Jesus, or coexist with him as a pair. This would mean losing a player in the defensive axis. Alternatively, we could see rice as a 6, Havertz into the RHS specialised 10 allowing Odegaard to move across to the multi-phase left 8 role. But who knows what mikel has up his sleeve! We will probably see every one of these combos next szn

    Can you explain why Havertz looked far more intense, electric even at times, in a lot of the clips I've seen of him at Leverkusen but at Chelsea he appeared to be more languid and non-chalant in his play? Do you believe it's simply a change of team/system or has he permanently altered his playing style from his Leverkusen days? If Arteta can rediscover the Leverkusen Havertz, then we have a player on our hands!

    • @harveygration
      @harveygration  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Mixture of confidence and environment probably. Because has always had aggression in his pressing even at chelsea. But agree he lacks intensity at times. Think growing into his frame a bit may help this, because he certainly has the desire within him from what I’ve seen

    • @jackwilliam2965
      @jackwilliam2965 Před 10 měsíci +1

      It is all about starting position, so if a player always starts on the left side and receives the ball mostly towards the left flank at the half way line, soon as he receives the ball he knows where to run with the ball and knows the pass to make in relation to the opposition. Because they understand the position they play intuitively. So if the manager decides to put them on the right, change the position of a player and now when they receive the ball in a position that is not natural to them they have to think about everything they do and same time be able to retain position then they stop moving intuitively so the body language is not the same, it becomes more functional and player's natural ability suffers. If you put Messi up against the last defender because he won't have the same time to hold the ball looking towards goal and maybe receive it with his back to goal he won't be the same player. In football it is wherever you stand when the ball arrives knowing what you're doing next is more important then how good you are technically. Oddergard is player you see thriving when he receives the ball because he has played that position since a kid. Sometimes it works the other way if a player is stale you move the position and they can become a different player. The manager has to understand the players emotionally to get them playing their best.

    Only at the moment we look worse than last year.....

    • @fatdaddy1996

      I can't believe you're comparing Havertz to Haaland.
      This reminds me of Glen Hoddle. I think it was Bob Paisley who was asked why England couldn't get the best out of Hoddle and the gist of his reply was that to get the best out of Hoddle you had to build your team around him. If you did that Hoddle would be excellent, but the team would be mediocre.
      I really hope I'm wrong, but I think this is a poor transfer.

      We are playing completely different to last season with odergaard playing like gundogun basically collecting the ball from deep and dictating from there.
      Havertz playing further up ghosting behind defenders sometimes holding up the ball bringing in our attacking but on the ball playing deeper than odergaard playing next to rice it’s all crazy arteta is a genius

    Best analysis on Kai. Always saw his role as the Space interpreter. A shadow striker in a way. Players like Dybala and Griezmann always find it hard in systems cause they are half 10/9 rather than 8/10. Gabriel Jesus movements will be vital on the left.

      I agree. There is absolutely no chance if that! Was just saying if he ever plays the specialised/advanced 10 role on the RHS, this may facilitate Odegaard to move across to the LHS 8. Who, based on last season and other top sides is required to be more multi-phase (deep build up, defensive awareness). What makes Odegaard so undroppable is that he can do this as well!!

      That is the whole point!!! He wasn’t used properly at Chelsea (Lampard’s 4-2-3-1 where Havertz didn’t play in the 10, Tuchel out jf necessity had him in the 9). In this system at Arsenal he has the environment to perform much better- focusing only on creating space, attacking the box, playing between lines…Not saying he WILL succeed but it suits him hands down- just trying to get into Arteta’s thinking that’s all :) 🤷‍♂️
