The Real Reason Arsenal Want To Sign Kai Havertz

  • Arsenal looks set to complete the signing of their first summer transfer this week, bringing in Chelsea's Kai Havertz for a reported £65m. But while the talk has been of how well the German international fits into Mikel Arteta's system, it might actually be the ways he doesn't that make him such an important acquisition.

When Havertz / Jesus play together, they will constantly swap the 8 and 9 positions. When one drops deep to help the build-up the other will run in behind. It will be an absolute nightmare for defenders who won't know whether to mark or hold their positions.

Me, I would just concentrate on Jesus, as lets face it, Havertz will be there just making up the numbers and will be no threat.
"Jesus and Havertz swap"....sure, first Arteta will have to teach Havertz how to run first. then he will have to teach him how to pass and lastly and this one could take the longest, how to close a Player down and to tackle.

@@tolulopehenry3668 I have followed his whole career and sadly "yes", he is.
Even as a Youngster, plenty of promise, plenty of potential, but will never realise it.
He is "one of those", you know he has it, but he just will not apply it.
He has no drive, no passion, no inclination, or willingness to learn.
He has frustrated every Manager he has played under....no to mention quite a few Players.
Simply put, he has the promise, he has the potential, but he is too lazy to find it.
So he just continues to con Clubs into paying huge prices for him, because of that promise and potential, but Arteta, like so many Managers before him, will learn and Arsenal will be selling him by the time the 3rd, of 4th Season comes along, just like all the Clubs before them and who knows, by then clubs might have seen through him and wont bother, unless they can get him on the cheap.

Great breakdown. I’ve been completely baffled by this signing. But when you start looking at the Xhaka role in the box midfield, the need for a 2nd False 9 option on top of Jesus and Havertz’s underlying heading stats… it starts making a lot lot more sense. Top video. 👊

TBF, Xhaka's job in the team isn't really to score goals. He's done well this year with 7, but that's a standout year for him. Havertz not scoring loads of goals doesn't bother me if he's coming in as a Xhaka replacement. If his technical skill and passing ability is as good as it looks on paper he should be a proper upgrade to the team.

Xhaka's job was to replace Ramsey, yet another very capable box-to-box midfielder.
However, the thing is, he had exceeded it and started to play like a striker despite of his limits.
So, Arteta demanded him because of this - he wanted Havertz to challenge Xhaka's limitation in play.

  • @ToddParker
    @ToddParker Před 11 měsíci +61

No. The real reason Arteta wants Kai Havertz is because he will be a revolutionary upgrade on the left sided #8 position, otherwise known as the Xhaka role. Don't believe me? People need to watch his Leverkusen days and pay attention to what the player is saying; he sees himself as a midfielder...always has, perhaps why he had no real identity at Chelsea because they played him wrong due to their striker crisis. Speaks very, very highly of the player's ability to be able to do the job, but that is not how he sees himself. His heading helps, but does anyone else actually believe this would be the #1 reason to get him? Seriously? He is being chosen to replace Xhaka. This will be verified when Xhaka leaves next week for Germany.

Interesting, exactly what I thought. You could check my comment that I just posted somewhere here, but more or less, it would be what Arteta expected from him. However though, Xhaka is less mobile and agile compared to him (don't get me wrong, Xhaka still is but not as much compared to his prime). So, what Arteta wanted is probably this: give Havertz a playing style that suits him the best, and see what he can do.

Makes you wonder why Chelsea didn't try a few more crosses to him. But I guess it didn't suit their style of play, as Lukaku also found out. So it sounds as if his heading gives Arsenal an extra option if their usual pretty football is running up against a brick wall, which seems no bad thing. My thought at first was this, "What the hell is Arteta cooking?"
But then I realized how good he was at 2022 World Cup.
To be fair, to place him as the number 8 would be a risky move, or exactly a gamble.
However, I think what Arteta wanted is to get a replacement for and also exceeds Xhaka (or Ozil but striker).
Havertz isn't really a natural target-man, I've been saying this for ages, but he isn't a playmaker either. So, it is possible that he would have given a free role which allows him to roam free, similar to raumdeuter but something different - I thought of 4-1-3-1-1 formation where he would have placed as some kind of a deep-lying forward to support Jesus. And with Odergaard as the CAM instead of "sharing" roles with Havertz, it would have been more efficient thus given more clarity of which duty each of these players. So, I propose that Havertz will be a shadow striker to Jesus.

Agree on the header deficiencies at Arsenal. Then, for a top of the line striker who can score headers for Arsenal, how about spending real money (€120 million-125 million) for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
Seems the only way to become a serious contender in Europe next year.

@@XStoffe We shouldn't take him because he would take Jesus' position. It is obviously either Jesus or a true striker (Osh/Vla/etc.), and the latter costs a fortune and would put Jesus into the exact position as he was once in at City before joining us. Doing so (I think) also breaks Mikel's promise to Jesus.

119 games, 36 goals, 22 assists, playing for one of the top Teams in the Bundesliga, is not exactly pulling up trees.
      Take season 2017/18. 30 games, 5 goals, 7 assists.
Compare that with Volland, playing the same position, only the other side, 35 games, 27 goals, 14 assists.
That is what Havertz should be doing, but never gets anywhere near that.

@@neovarleydownes9109Big time misrepresentation going on here. Firstly, Havertz used to play as a CAM at Leverkusen. Kevin Volland was the main striker, the guy who'd hold up the ball and do the dirty stuff up front. 2017/18 was also only his 2nd season in senior level football, so the stats don't tell the whole story. There's a very good reason why Chelsea threw roundabout 100 odd million at this dude (including add ons) in 2020 and it just hasn't worked out cause of all the upheavel and playing as a.makeshift forward under the likes of Lampard. Even Fat Frank would've struggled in his heyday if he was played as a target man.

      @neovarleydownes9109 Před 11 měsíci

@@jamaicansonnets1560 the reason I gave that Season as an example is because Volland played the exact same position as Havertz did that Season.
Volland was played out of position, not Havertz and I was comparing how the two faired.
Havertz might like to play there, but he is too lazy to play there.
EVERY Manager under him, has watched him play there, tried all sorts of partnerships and tactics and then tried to turn him into a Striker and simply put, told him just to score goals, don't bother to run, or challenge, unless he wants to, quite simply because he cant.
Watch him play...."closely"...he will only run if the ball is coming towards him, he makes challenged a 6 year old makes and heaven help him he should actually put any effort into them.
why should he run 20 yards to retrieve a ball, where there is a Team Mate 20 yards further away, that is willing to do it.
Every Manager sees something in him, so they buy him, then turns out he is not that good anywhere, exhaust all options and end up selling him on.
Lampard was only there 6 weeks and tried him in 4 different positions, playing with 6 different Players, using "8" different tactics with him, because that is what Lampard was asked to do and he still produced nothing.
hell, Lampard tried him in 4 different tactics in one game, just to get a rise out of him.
I saw Potter do it too.
Bosz, in Havertz's last Season with Leverkusen, he did it also.
Lampard was asked to do something similar with Felix and that is also why Chelsea did not bother making the move permanent.
Lampard was asked to do all sorts of experiments with Players, it was why he was put there, the results were irrelevant, Couching Staff just wanted to assess several Players before the Season finished, just to make sure who was to be sold and who was to be kept.
Now it is Arteta's turn and Arsenal will be doing the exact same thing, once Arteta has finished pulling his hair out over him.
Chelsea paid ott for havertz, just as they have for Pulisic, Ziyech, Sterling, Chilwell, Cucurella, Fofana, Mudryk, Fernandez, Kepa and certainly Lukaku.
It is what Chelsea seem to do, they just love to waste money.
All Managers that Havertz has played under, have done the same as CFC and Lampard and he turned out to be crap for all of them.
When Chelsea came along with their £81m offer, Leverkusen must have been in a stake of euphoric shock and thanking their lucky stars.
The whole deal from start to finish, took 1 and a half days....I wonder why.
£81m to Chelsea, his transfer value then was £66m.
£68m now and his transfer value is £52m, I know what that is telling me....Havertz has found another Mug.
You keep giving excuses for Havertz, everyone that likes Havertz, keeps giving excuses for him.
He quite simply is not that good, as now Arsenal and Arteta will find out.
Its a shame, because he has potential...."potential"....there is that word again :0)
