- In this Family Travel Vlog we had a wonderful opportunity as a family to volunteer a few days at an orphanage in Cambodia. We are so grateful for the time we had with the kids. Before arriving in Siem Reap, we asked our hotel if they had any schools or orphanages in the area where we could be of some assistance and help out for a few days. Fortunately, one of the people at the hotel, Ms. Bign, already volunteered regularly at an orphanage and suggested FOCO (Friends of the Orphan Children Organization), which was only a short drive away.

Our first day at the orphanage, we were able to meet the children and introduce our family. We were not really sure what would be expected of us and unfortunately, we came very underprepared but we made the best of it.
Our second day there we were a bit more ready. Lua was going to teach a bit of Spanish with our two older daughters assisting, as well as teaching them a few card games that we enjoy. Egyptian Rat Screw (Egyptian War, Slap) was a huge success and within a few minutes, everyone was laughing and having a great time. Lua and the girls also taught some of the younger kids games such as Duck Duck Goose. It was a very fulfilling day and we really enjoyed getting to know the children better.
The night before our final day, we went in search of a bookstore so we could get some supplies for the kids as well as some toys. The store was very kind, as they provided a nice discount as they put together we were buying the supplies for some local children.
We were eager to see the kids on our final day and could hardly wait to dole our bags of pencils, erasers, soccer balls, etc. The children were all so grateful as we enjoyed our final hours with them before we had to say goodbye.
The children, in the short time we had with them, really did make a special mark in our lives and we will cherish the memories we made with them.

This was very fulfilling and we look forward to more opportunities in the future. Any other suggestions for volunteering in Asia that would be relatively family friendly?
Lovely kids
Thank you!
I am from Cambodia. Very Thank your volunteer and also very your nice Video :-)
We love Cambodia, especially the people! Thank you!
Wow - what an amazing experience! What was going on with them putting all their slippers in the middle of the circle? Was that part of a game? :)
Honestly, I can't recall. We were right next to their "no shoe" area so we may have just grabbed them to explain that we were supposed to go in a circle using the shoes as a marker.
Love your videos
Thank you so much for the kind words! More videos coming soon!
