I let my daughter (who just turned two) play with whatever she wants thats not in a detolf or a model kit. If it on a shelf its fair game, she just has to ask me and does regularly - that girl loves NECA's Ninja Turtles and any and all Batman figures. I also gave her a bunch of my stuff that I just don't display anymore so she has familiarity with your average Hasbro/Mattel figure and is pretty good at handling them (and is especially proud of her collection of Rey figures that has grown from this, to the point I buy Rey figures now specifically for her). She really gets excited to handle any of my stuff and always asks me who characters are and what the accessories are. It's definitely helped facilitate bonding between us.

I've outfitted standing figures in my glass cabinets with custom cut mat board pads. There's a buffer between the robot foot and the glass. It's great for keeping the figures from sliding or shifting, while my kids run in circles in the room they're housed in! Also, I have open bookshelves of stuff they can play with in the same room

I think a main reason why kids today aren’t so into toys is not only the fact that electronics reign in this era, but also that we grew up watching cartoons that exploded our imaginations to be used in that creative manner with toys.
Toys reigned our era, and for many of us cartoons were so amazing that they meant much more than just passing time. They became part of us, and even helped us cope with life circumstance.

My son is 21 months at the time of writing, he doesn't seem to have a huge amount of interest in my collection as of yet, but that could be due to a combination of his age, not seeing me playing with them (therefore not wanting to play with them also) and the most important thing, not knowing how to open the cabinets up yet lol.
When he's older I will definitely let him play with the majority of my collection under supervision. Most of them are toys after all.

My son used to be into Prime so he had those figures. He graduated to video games and CZcams when he was about 12 and never looked back😂. Now he's 16 and looks around my collection and is like wow, then goes back upstairs. I never had an issue with him touching them. He likes watching me transform them but that's it. I also think it's different times. Which is why Hasbro is trying to market to adult collectors more. Kids don't play with physical toys as much these days.

What an awesome topic! My kids can mess around with my MP’s only if I’m there and they wash their hands. I get them CHUGs to mess around with. My oldest and youngest love Transformers, but my middle son doesn’t care. My oldest generally takes care of them, but always loses headmasters two seconds after he picks them up. If I bring down a titan class figure with micro masters and headmasters they all join in. They are pretty good about not touching my collection.

The only thing I really display per se is my masterpiece Transformers. My son LOVES them. I'm SUPER paranoid about him getting into them and breaking them. It's a small collection by you guys' standards, so maybe that's part of it too. Each piece has more meaning to me, and he HAS broken some in the past. I'm sure my feelings on it are overboard. He's a good kid, but then again, in the presence of one of my figures, it's like a switch goes off inside him, MUST GRAB, MUST MANIPULATE. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

I'm actually part of the modern generation, and I love transformers. And godzilla. Buts important to be aware that my parents had all the transformers, godzilla, and power rangers disks. It all depends on what kids are raised on I suppose. And I've gotten my sister to love transformers too. Yessss...

I don't have kids myself since i'm only 25 but I do regularly babysit a group of kids and I will often bring some stuff to show them. For me, It really depends largely on what the price point is and how much I like it plus what the item is.It also depends on how hard to get the item again should the worse happen. Most anything that cost more than 80 or so (depending on what it is is where I start to say now playing with it.) Even the things that I do let them mess with, I will stress the importance that they should be respectable with something doesn't belong to them. Like LEGO for example, I have no problem with that just as long as they don't completely disassemble the set into what they want without asking me. Or the mainline Transformers since they are more durable than masterpiece (or if they aren't it's not as difficult to replace.) The kinds of things I won't let them mess with is again anything above a set price point. The point where it's a little more grey is Model kits (mostly Gundam) with all of the V fins and small pieces plus the different type of plastic used, it largely depends on what the model is. I know that one of the kids has shown an interest on building them himself and has successfully built one. When it starts to get into the 40 and 50 dollar range I start to get more picky even though I would let them mess around with a 50 dollar mainline transformer or even a 60/70 dollar range figure so it kind of varies. On another note I did let them (kind of) mess around with MP-10. Means he was in truck mode and I was standing there, plus I have the TE and Mp-44 Primes I wasn't quite as worried. All the joints and the fin/ears/antennas were locked down or out of sight so it should have been fine. They ended up mostly getting a kick out of his trailer more than anything. Imagine how they would like Mp-44's except i'm not so sure I want to take something that expensive over there in the first place.

My daughters were never really interested, understandably. My boy likes the Transformers stuff only because he sees I’m excited about it basically. He’ll play with some of the mainline stuff sometimes. He likes Marvel Legends stuff more. Especially the BAF part of it. But, generally, he’s more interested in the computer stuff. All his friends congregate on some online games and that’s where he’d rather be.

I thought this video was going to be about how G1 figures were the perfect size for kids to play with, and that modern Siege figures are too large for kids.

    • @iamtheomnimonkey
      @iamtheomnimonkey Před 4 lety

      Hmmm. I don't agree.
G1 toys were all over the map on size and Seige is targeted at kids 10 and up. Hasbro has 3 specific toy lines for different age groups.
And about 1/2 of the toys I see for younger kids are the bigger ones, not smaller. Smaller toys can be dangerous for kids.

“Kids today are more athletic” shieeeeet not around here, kids don’t come out side. And we drank out of the garden hose, there was no push pops.. all my neighbor hood kids parents had the same philosophy “don’t feed the neighborhood”
We always played outside, there was a river close by which was our playground, baseball, flag football, hide and seek or whatever we could come up with. None of us had an iPad or computer. We didn’t all necessarily participate in group sports but we all skateboarded too.

It’s hard to really narrow down what it is, being generational, fear based or what have you...
We had numerous things on display that my kid just wouldn’t touch or wasn’t interested in being the swords and daggers on the wall to the transformers and graphic novels on the shelves to the video games upon video games. Only one time did a friend of hers attempt to lift a sword from the wall only to drop it from the weight and I think the lesson was learned there, but I never ever scolded her or her friend, I was more concerned about their safety.
Now as for my Pokémon and magic cards? That’s a different story lol
My daughter got into my deck bag when she was 4 and she fed the cards to our dog! He chewed up about $4k worth of cards... 😢
