- Juilliard trained opera singer reacts to The Righteous Brothers performing Unchained Melody. 🎶❤️ The Righteous Brothers were an American musical duo of Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. They began performing together in 1962 in the Los Angeles area as part of a five-member group called the Paramours, but adopted the name "The Righteous Brothers" when they embarked on their recording career as a duo.
The best-known version of "Unchained Melody" was recorded by the duo The Righteous Brothers for Philles Records in 1965. The lead vocal was performed solo by Bobby Hatfield, who later recorded other versions of the song credited solely to him.

So many have covered this song, most notably Elvis, but none can touch this performance. Legendary.
And remember miss Maggie, this was on live tv, no auto tuner, live band and 1 take.
Arguably the most beautiful solo performance of all time... No auto tuning, no technological help, just pure, raw talent 👌
I seriously agree.
The performance on stage was without autotune.
But you can not know, if the recording of this video was autotuned afterwards.
@@holgerczubka5453 Autotune didn't exist until decades later.
@@Aurora-tp3dy The Master recording is without autotune. But this one We reacted to, is a copy of it, or a remastered one. We will never know if it is was "modified".
@@holgerczubka5453 This is exactly what was broadcast on October 25, 1965. You'll just have to accept that fact. You know there are many, many people alive today who witnessed it, and they are not delusional. The man was that good.
What impresses me beyond credibility is that was not in a studio with tons of voice-enhancing equipment.
He simply held a basic microphone at varying distances from his mouth and sang his heart out.
Bobby's mother was in the audience, and he was determined to make her proud.
There will never be another Bobby Hatfield.
in the giant population of America, there ALWAYS are more Bobby Hatfields . . since the corporate takeover of music in the 80s , we will never get to hear them
R.I.P. Bobby Hatfield ✌️♥️🙏🙏🙏
My wife and I were at the mall and that song came on and everyone froze, transfixed from one end of the mall to the other. No one moved until the song was over. What a tribute to one of the greatest love songs ever recorded.
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see at my Premiere of a new reaction video today in less than 15 minutes?
..."greatest songs ever recorded" supported by an angel's voice.
My mom wanted to go shopping but my dad wanted to see this. So we were at Sears in the TV area and they had it on. The people who knew were there watching with us. Even in the store he got a ovation!!
Everyone has memories of this song…I could see this happening…
@@alexanderj.mendez3815
This is widely considered one of the best live vocal performances ever recorded.
Of course...I tend to agree.
Yep:)
NO AUTOTUNE... He just “cut to the chase”... and was in perfect pitch and did only as Bobby Hatfield could do and “owned” Unchained Melody...and A little known fact about this performance; He was very nervous(by his own admission) because his parents were in the audience. Nobody will even come close to Bobby Hatfields version of Unchained Melody
10
He does a wink/lip bite at the end that's almost a Mike drop
THE Best live vocal performance ever recorded. Period!
NO ONE HAS EVER SUNG THIS SONG BETTER,AND I DOUBT IF ANYONE WILL EVER SING IT BETTER 👍👍
If this is opera, count me in baby!
I agree with you. It is magnificent, thar voice will never ever come to sing like him . Never get tired of listening times after times . One of the kind .
Yes I totally agree, nobody can sing this song better ❤
He had a head cold this night. His mum was there that night ❤❤❤
On this particular show (1965), he dedicated this song to our young men in Vietnam, and the women who longed for them to come home.
Very Cool. I did not know that.
No one ever heard a voice like his. Bobby was a 'counter-tenor, with a natural high range that a lot of Sopranos could not reach. Though he died at the age of 63, he left a legacy of beautiful music and his angelic voice, such as we will never hear again. I call this "Bobby's Song" because no one could ever come up to his standard.
He's not a countertenor. Listen to choirboys. That's what CT sound like
God given voice, he was a natural born singer that could pretty much do it all.
Man is wooing a JUILLIARD trained opera singer after 60 plus years!! WOW!!
I can't believe he did this while sick with a head cold and performing live for the first time for his parents. He was so good.
Before auto tune, there was something called talent !
💯👍😄
When voices came together!
As is said by millions all over CZcams every day by the world's fogies, Sean, and no matter how tedious it's become to read it, everything was better in the past! :)
And when you are finished , you might just listen to it uninterrupted through the whole song. True classic talent and voice. No one compares on a cover. I'm glad I know the song already.
Only Bobby Hatfield can truly sing this song the way he sings it. Many have tried but few can come even close.
You sre absolutely right!!!!

I love watching these young women react to this beautiful song. I’m 75 and I remember back when this came out. I didn’t appreciate it as I do now. Beautiful. I hope Bobby knows just how much joy he has brought to so many people.
Class of '65? I'm a little surprised that you said you didn't appreciate it that much when it first came out. I thought it was swoonworthy. And, of course, it still is. ❤ My friends and I feel so fortunate to have been born into the generation whose memories were built on the music of that era.
Today, he would have a hell of a "Standing Ovation" in. But there was many could singing in those years, something they can't do today...
He had that ANGEL FACE to match that voice. The high note at the end was something popular male vocalists did in those days. But Bobby's voice made girls melt. They should have made Bobby Hatfield dolls! I would have bought one. ❤
his style is soul, that's why they are called the Blue Eyed Soul singers. you should hear the two of them together.
Bobby never had a singing lesson in his life that's GOD given talent

You need to listen to you'll never walk alone
He was the most powerful superhero
You can’t just take their word for it
Never had a formal lesson vs possible thousands of hours singing to himself and others before he recorded anything.
Bobby makes it look easy to sing like an angel. Other singers grimace like they're trying to squeeze the notes out of their arse. Bobby was smooth, relaxed, soulful and gifted.
EXACTLY! I have such a hard time watching singers who grimace when they sing.
He has a voice any opera singer would kill for.
I am 70. And miss the days we see in this video. Thank you for the memories.
Barely 10 seconds into the song and you've already fallen in love with him. 🥰
Did'nt take me that long...............and I am a GUY !!!.....a STRAIGHT guy.........

Bobby's voice is phenomenal, beautiful and magical!! I'm melting ❤❤❤❤❤
Your forgot to mention how effortless he made it look. Bobby Hatfield was a wonderful and talented vocalist.
This song is number one, pure talent, and it cannot be compared today. Songs and singers of yesteryears are the very best.
I truly love watching women listening to Bobby sing this song. You can see them falling in love.

Yes. I remember being around 7 or 8 feeling like that when I heard Smokey and Elvis singing. I didn't know what was happening inside but it felt like so warm and fuzzy . Too bad we don't have anyone like this anymore. :(
It is his smile at the end of the song; he knows that he has absolutely nailed this performance and he knows his mother is in the audience.

He bit his lip at the end his parents were in the audience pleased he did a good job
Don't forget the little bite lip, that always captures me.
100%
A lip bite is not a sign of confidence ,it is a sign of insecurity or stress..which for me makes it all the more endearring. Confidence was Not an enduring trait at that time. It was considered arrogant.
I'm 70 and experienced those voices each and every day as i grew up. I knew then they were good but looking back and comparing today's singers with back then...very very few today can even come close. I appreciate your comments especially bc you know how special that voice is. Thank you
This duo had 2 of the finest voices in modern music. Thanks for your reaction.
Bobby Hatfield is the most effortlessly talented vocalist I think there's ever been.
Watch how he sang here. No strain, no push, he just rolled from one note to the next.
It was his birthday and he was nervous as that was the first time his parents were in the audience. He nailed it to the barn door in that performance.
His birthday is August 10th. This performance is October 25.
@@Aurora-tp3dy However, it was the first time they performed in front of this sized audience on TV. His parents were in the audience as well. He himself said he was so nervous that he performed on an empty stomach so he wouldn't throw up. He wanted his performance to be perfect for his mother, his smile at the end was cause he knew he nailed it.

Definitely, this is the BEST version. The range and control of Bobby's voice-combined with the effortless transitions really augment this. And he does not distract you by putting on a show (gyrating) or making painful facial gestures.
It was all about the story and the singer conveying the emotion of the story with his or her beautiful voice. It wasn't about vocal athletics.
I still listen to them in 2023. No duo like them
Yea, Bobby Hatfield brought so much joy to his listeners.

there is a time when talented gifted people are born into this world JUST to entertain people around the world. Bobby is one of them.
And there are still people born with it .
Man, there is so SO much more than mere entertainment happening there. Way deeper.
I like the part when he finishes where he's not out of breath, not breathing hard at all. As if he'd just had a mere conversation with someone. Gotta admire the effortlessness of his singing.

Effortless.
It takes a lot of hard work to make that seem easy.
Seriously. I was breathing for him. The most charming performance.
Love that little grin at the end. He's happy he did his momma proud! That was live, all him, pure talent!

That fact that his face never changed when he hit them notes was amazing and he made it look so effortless! The 60s and 70s had the best music ever made! I was so blessed to experience these eras. Love the reactions of the younger generations thank you.
That orchestra backing him up is also amazing. What a magical combo.
That is Phil Spector's 'Wall of Sound'.
That’s the emotive power of the legendary BOBBY HATFIELD (RIP 1940 - 2003) - arguably the greatest tenor singer EVER - his pronouncing and clarity is perfect. This was his 1965 masterpiece 👌
It’s so sad that so many beautiful ballads that he performed were never on video.
It’s not often I see reactions from people with vocal training and can understand the complexities of range and runs. This is one of the best reactions I’ve seen of a standard classic that set the bar for others to follow and improve on. Aren’t you happy to be in an era where the internet can reveal amazing talent just waiting to be ‘discovered’ by others for our release n pleasure.
“To the sea, to the sea to the OPEN ARMS of the sea…..”
Remember that many, in 65, left and went overseas with a doubtful aspiration of coming home…..”wait for me…” “Oh my love, my darling….”
“I’m leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again..” “They paved paradise and put up a parking lot..”
There's a lot happening in this technically but he does it so effortlessly
My #1 of all time. Tears come to my eyes every time I hear this version of the song.

Original single came out in 1955 got into the top ten by Al hibbler
@@DavidSmith-kn7ef Hibbler's was the 3d recording
@@DavidSmith-kn7ef That’s the version my Dad knows and loves. I got him to listen to the Righteous Brother’s version about a year or so ago, and he likes it, but his emotions are attached to the 1955 version - which he then introduced me to. He already had 5 of us kids (ended up being 8 of us) by the time the Righteous Brother’s version came out, so he didn’t have much time to listen to the radio by that point. Come to think of it, there is another reason he wasn’t familar with this version: I remember us having cars without radios when I was very young, as Dad thought it provided a dangerous distraction while driving back at that time. By the mid 70s he relented, which we were all happy about.
