      @aprilstewart5929 Před 7 měsíci +3

      I FUCKING HATE AUTOTUE. It's ruined any kind of recorded or performed singing; it makes any kind of actual expertise or talent irrelevant. You listen to some of these singers today (lol I sound like my grandmother!) and you can't tell if they can sing at all, because autotune keeps them sounding exactly the same as eachother. There's no character or art; its just fake little pretend voices. And then you get to see a major performance like this (first time I've seen this, but I remember The Righteous Brothers fondly); holy shit! I've heard the record of that song a million times (literally) but his vocals in this live show are sublime. I'm stunned.
      Like several of my fellow WOMEN who reacted to this, I didn't realize he was a world-class hunk; haven't seen him perform on tv since I was a little kid. Wow, both of those guys were genetic masterpieces!
      A comment, too: there was a very persistent rumor, at the time of this song's release, that this singer was deeply in love with a female BLACK singer, and that, because of the sickening bigotry of the time (but hey, things are so much better now, right?) they were never able to be together. When I say "rumor", it was hot goss, common knowledge, and I, being very little, didn't understand any of it. I do, now.

      Tell me that you have absolutely no idea what this song is about without telling me. Vietnam? Where do you get that idea from? Do you not have Google? Or are you so arrogant that you “know shit” even when you don’t. Vietnam war indeed. It’s from a 1955 film called “Unchained” about a prisoner who is waiting for the day he’s paroled. Nothing at all to do with war. Any war.

Vocally, it's certainly up there. By a male singer, certainly. If we're going by straight vocals, Whitney Houston has to be in the conversation.

    The lyrics mean so much more when you realize it was 1965 and the Vietnam War was in full swing. When he sings "Time goes by so slowly and time can do so much." You think he is sitting in a fox hole with gunfire all around, scared to death he is going to die. "Are you still mine?" and "I'll be coming home, wait for me." In the midst of gunfire and terror, he just wants to know she still loves him and will wait for him.

    This has been covered so many times over the years by so many different artists. But this is the definite velvet version no one will ever do a better version than this. I call it the velvet version as his voice is like velvet in the slow parts of this song so smooth. And it's pure emotion and talent no trickery involved.

      I specifically had a "DJ" at my wedding for this reason! This is my wedding song - June 25, 1994! Next June will be 30 years, 3 beautiful children. I was married in "The Mansion" on Fairleigh Dickinson University, Madison, NJ (Twombly estate - marriage to Vanderbilts). It was breathtaking!

    “The Righteous Brothers” are considered by most to be the Greatest Male Vocal Duo Of All Time. I agree. Between Bill Medley’s Lows and Bobby Hatfield’s Highs they can hit every note on a piano. No other male singers can do that. Legendary.
    “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’’ was the most played song on radio in the 20th Century
    "Unchained Melody" - Bobby Hatfield Live 1965 Andy Williams Show (with his mother sitting right behind him) Considered by most as The Greatest Live Male Vocal Performance In History... I agree. Bobby’s use of “Runs” is masterful. He created the style and set the table that all others have fed off of for decades. 7 notes just to say the word “I” is melodic brilliance.
    Their name came from doing a show near a marine base in So Calif and a black marine said to them…. You two guys are Righteous Brothers.
    In 1983, in Newport Beach O.C. Calif. Bill and Bobby at the Jolly Roger Restaurant . I was 13 feet away for... "Unchained Melody"- "You've Lost That Lovin Feeling" - "Soul And Inspiration".... They were perfect, awesome, amazing, incredible......

      Congratulations of your 30th Wedding Anniversary. These days most couples do not last that long. You and your husband are very blessed to have such a loving and caring relationship. All the best going forward. I myself and coming up on 47 years of marital bliss and counting. At 70 years old I still find my wife as beautiful as when I first met her 50 years ago. She is my life and the world to me. I hope you last as long as we. I believe you will.@@donnamarievalentine1156

    This is why those born in the 50s look at the current offerings described as ‘music’ and feel sorry for the current generation. When I see their faces it makes me happy. Maybe it’ll help them understand the current batch of ‘old people’.we grew up with things like this that they’ll never understand without making the effort.
