  • Ancient Indian Martial Arts- When you say Martial arts the first thing that comes to your mind is Kung Fu, Karate and maybe China & Japan for being the birth place of these Martial arts. But did you know that Martial arts as a concept came from Southern parts of India? There are even written scriptures that the Person who taught Kung fu to East Asia was BodhiDharma who was actually a South Indian King. INDIA is the birth place of Martial arts and somehow we end up looking up to the east.

Kalarippayattu is a life long course of study. In Kerala two types of kalarippayattu we can see one is vadakkan kalarippayattu and Thekkan kalarippayattu.
Kalarippayattu gives a strong and flexible body condition and also it provides mental concentration with healthy body.
Kalarippayattu has an amazing speed which you don't see any other martial arts.
But kalarippayattu never trains a fighter rather is produces a good social being, kalarippayattu gives permission to fight back only in life threatening situations. Kalari locks are highly dangerous and tricky.
Another course of study is called kalari marmom, which is studying about the secret and very weak parts of the body, masters will teach the students after three and four years of training , if he or she is mature and able to control body and mind.
I also trained mma, muiy Thai ,boxing. But these are real agressive martial arts and produce a fighter, but I love and practices kalarippayattu because it makes a good social being.
If somebody wants to be a fighter better go for kick boxing , muiy Thai or mma. But if you want to be good social being better select kalarippayattu
      👍👍👍.

From the point of the sword touching the body and before making a cut in the skin the warrior should slide away from it using the flexibility of the body. It is an advanced stage which only very few masters know . The advanced ones are taught only after watching the student for 4 years as it is very Lethal. At the time it was popular in the fight between two warriors, the losers die in the battle. No documentary is available for the advance stages.

Kalaripayattu became an established martial art during the
13th century AD as quoted in Frank Zarilli’s “When the Body
Becomes All Eyes”. The art of Kalarippayattu is a dynamic
fighting system which incorporates a combination of yoga and
gymnastics. It trains in an array of weaponry, empty hand
combat, pressure point attacks (Marma Adi), and the healing
arts of Ayurveda. The Kerala dance of Katha Kali is very close
to the martial art of Kalarippayattu in its posture, stances, and
    foot movements.

With great respect due to the indian martial arts I would have to say that to imply that the martial arts started in China or India or even Africa as some people claim would be inaccurate because that would mean that until the martial arts of China or Africa or India came along every one else in the world had no idea how to fight.. now if one was to say that this country or that country has the oldest written down and recorded detailed fighting system whether it was preserved in cave drawings ..pyramids or temple walls then that is a different matter... imagine the martial arts that were not catalogued over the centuries that have been lost ....again this is not meant to disrespect the history and culture of India that I respect and admire greatly

Indian military might mostly remained concentrated around hand to hand combat. Their excellence was unparalleled. Europeans focused on fighting as a group, rank discipline, team work & above all technology. Turks & mongols fine tuned swift cavalry movements & horse back archery. A disciplined group can always defeat an unorganized group of Individual warriors. Rest is history.

I guess you are wrong when you say Indian military mostly focused on hand to hand combats that's not at all true, yeah we were considered to be good sword warriors but we were also good at using archers and many long distance weapons and they never were able to defeat equal army on Indian soldiers one on one but the only drawback India had was disintegration and lack of technology for example Ottomans were using canons in 15th century and babur came up with an unknown weapon in Indian subcontinent. If you think Indians lost every battles, I guess you have to look into history one more time I cañ give many examples but I don't want to waste my time teaching you history lessons. If that's the case why Ibrahim Lodi lost to Rana sanga, why Rana kumbha won every single battle, why ahoms were able to beat mighty Mughals, how Katoch defeated Tughlaq's army, the truth is Indians knew strategically better way to fight but lacked technology.

    • @manojrnmishra
      @manojrnmishra Před rokem

@@MaheshSingh-ri6vv , As I have mentioned Indian military mostly focused on hand to hand combats, not completely. There was use of Archery but it wasn't extensive in comparison to turks and mongols. For example, Rajputs mostly never preferred to be Archers, they employed Vil Archers in their service.
Babur didn't come to India with an unknown weapon, Gunpowder and Canons were already in use both in Bahmani Sultanate and Vijaynagar Empire decades before arrival of Babur. Bahmani adopted this from Persians and Vijayanagar took the Service of Portuguese under their futuristic and most capable ruler 'Krishnadeva raya'. History tells how he used canons against Bijapur with devastating effect. Ibrahim Lodi and Rana Sanga couldn't keep up with the latest technology of that time and that gave Babur undue advantage.
