    Tony is, and always has been the least cool and most underrated musician in Prog Rock, but boy does he write beautiful music ! I don't know what it is that makes his music so special but it seems to transcend the instruments and soar into the ether, just listen to Ripples or Mad Man Moon from Trick of the Tail, or Unquiet Slumbers from Wind & Wuthering.. sublime compositions.

    I had the very great pleasure and privilege to meet and converse with Tony on several occasions, along with the other members of Genesis, in the early 1970s. He was, as indeed they all seemed, a very genuine and open person. In fact on one occasion, my friend asked him about the opening chords of 'Watcher Of The Skies', and he grabbed a sheet of paper, quickly drew up a few staves and wrote out the chords for him. I realise I'm kind of late to the party (four years late), but hearing this for the first time is very stirring, and has brought back some wonderful memories. Thank you, Tony.

    Thank you!👍, Mr.Banks, for keeping the torch lit for progressive music.
    Whether it be in a symphonic, rock or poprock context, you’ve never let
    me down at any point in the 35 years I have enjoyed every chord of all
    your compositions - and I do not feel in any way that any of your tracks
    were “a chord too far”😉 To the contrary am I of the strong belief, that the
    reason why your Genesis compositions as well as any of your wonderful
    solo compositions continuesly bring me joy, is because of the complex nature of
    your compositionel structures!
    Thank you, again, for all your work, and for, through so many years,
    fulfilling my listening pleasure of what I consider to be “perfect music”,
    because of its ability to convey so many personal feelings, whilst
    it still manages to provoke and soothe the heart and the soul
    of general human nature.
    Keep up the the good work & I expect that you will enlighten us all
    with at least four more albums of symphonic works?😋 - (4,3,2, & 1)
    With kind regards, Mike from Denmark (a truly devoted fan!!)

    Everything that Tony Banks touches, is pure quality. He's an absolute genius. From behind his multiple keyboards, he was the driving force behind Genesis, that held and linked the songs together. I can't believe that film companies didn't utilise his talent more for film scores. Maybe he was too busy previously, and will now concentrate on that side of the business?

    • @geoffnorton9279

      Absolutely, I'm staggered that he has not been featured writing scores for many of the major films we have seen over the last several decades. I would love to hear Tony speak about his favourite chords and how he feels they can generate certain emotions. It would make a great series of videos, examining and dissecting your greatest works Tony. Please consider.

    Wow. This is gorgeous. I’m glad to see you still writing and playing music. You are a big legend to me as well and also inspired me to learn to play the keyboard. I grew up listening to you and Phil Collins in Genesis. I hope one day I’ll get to see you guys in person. Words cannot express how much you mean to me. Love and respect.

    Outstanding So glad to see Tony branch into the symphonic repitore, His skill at orchestration is new to me, but not surprising. It is a testament to the astounding. talent this man possesses. His was always the voice I listened for and loved in the Genesis works. His new works are even more outstanding. He just gets better.

    This is fantastic and I'll certainly be getting the new album; Tony Banks just gets better and better. Listening to this just after enjoying seeing him playing a genesis concert in 1973 on video; what a wonderful progression but the composer from one is clearly identifiable as the composer of the other.

      Very astute observation!
      Both Banks and VW have the same, peculiarly English, sensibility that is hard to define yet immediately recognizable to those of us who treasure such things.
      The emotional tone is a mixture of wistful nostalgia and cautious optimism that I believe is what many of us in this great land share.
      Bravo, Tony!!👏👏👏👏

    I always loved the ambience/atmospheres of Tony during Genesis. Love this work with orchestra, reminds me a bit of "The lamb lies down on Broadway"... normal, isn't it?... It's an incredible musician. Genesis was one of my favourite bands in my youth. Congrats for your work Tony! Greetings from another musician, from Portugal. xx

    Tony Banks is the major member of Genesis : without him and his talent as a composer what would be this band ?

    • @Eleventhearlofmars
      @Eleventhearlofmars Před 4 lety +1

      zeppelinn most of the compositions were written by him, especially in the earlier days, some of Genesis most well known pieces were written by him.

    • @Eleventhearlofmars
      @Eleventhearlofmars Před 4 lety +1

      zeppelinn they may of been democratic up to a point but Banks, more often than not, got his way.

    • @Eleventhearlofmars
      @Eleventhearlofmars Před 4 lety

      zeppelinn that’s not a good guide lol, you can’t use that as a barometer to his influence in the band, I’ve followed Genesis for 45 years and have read just about everything there is about them and can categorically tell you that Tony Banks had the major influence on what was put out finally on most of the albums up to Duke, then the writing of all three became a factor more.

    • @tonybanks1035
      @tonybanks1035 Před 4 lety +4

      @zeppelinn Look around in documentaries and biographies or forums that detail the writting contributions (I also own their biography). There is no arguing that every member contributed to the success of that band, but Tony has the lion's share in the writting (most of suppers ready and the knife's melody were shared between him and gabriel, and most of the lamb lies down melodies were banks/rutherford with few songs composed by banks/gabriel. Firth of fifth is also his). His solo career reflect only his poor artistic tastes. Thankfully, inside genesis the other memebrs had a great influence in production and arrangements.
