  • Hans Zimmer's Interstellar recorded on the organ of @SalisburyCathedral1!
    In creating the Interstellar Suite, I have set out to recreate as authentically the music from the original soundtrack by listening to the score using a variety of high-quality headphones. Obviously, it would be impossible to include every note and sound from the original orchestration, but it has been my aim to reproduce the effects and colours that one hears when listening to the original soundtrack.

      »The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
      Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;
      And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;
      And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;
      And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
      And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;
      And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;
      And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;
      And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;
      And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;
      And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:
      And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;
      And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
      And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;
      And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;
      And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
      So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
      Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of The Holy Ghost.
      Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
      But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of The Holy Ghost.
      And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
      Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
      Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
      Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
      And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.«

    Hans Zimmer wrote this soundtrack without knowing what the film was about, he was only ordered that in a few days he would deliver a work that would express through music the relationship between a father and a son. And that was what he gave, shortly after he found out that it was actually Father-daughter, because he didn't even know the story of the movie prior to that.
    When he delivered, the film's producer told Hans Zimmer that the film was in fact a science fiction film. And he asked him to go darker... And so he found a cathedral with an organ, and the reason is that he said that the organ represents the human species' attempt to portray the mystical and the metaphysical, that which is beyond us.
    He mentioned that he could feel the human presence every time the organ breathed in and out the notes. A powerful instrument that will represent the presence of humanity before the vast and powerful universe.

    • @sidpheasant7585
      @sidpheasant7585 Před měsícem +5

      The Holy Spirit is the product of the love the Father has for the Son. God created because the Word (the Son) was there from the outset, while His mechanism was the Spirit - who hovered over the waters. The Holy Spirit can work through music, raising existing genius to higher heights. And who else could tweak the laws of physics to save humanity, on the basis of love and trust pertaining between a father and a daughter? The father-daughter relationship is NOT quite like that between father and son, so how fascinating that this music was prompted by a concealment of truth (or else prior to a change of mind). It is as if somebody knew that father-son music would automatically stray in a divine direction ... which then fit in fact perfectly with the true divine purpose of the movie..., no matter that a male-female pairing was involved...
      As Jesus reminded us, the Holy Spirit is enigmatic, and blows like the wind where He will...

    Zimmer in general, and especially Interstellar OST, is incredibly difficult to play right. I've seen so many career musicians fail utterly in following the very sensitive balance of rhythm and intensity. This was as perfect as a human is ever going to give you.
    Edit: No time for caution was walking a little bit :D

Perhaps it's the subject matter underscored with the fabulous soundtrack? This reminds me of sitting in the church in the centre of Edinburgh a few years ago with my late sister listening to the wonderful organ playing "modern" tunes. Sublime.....oh I'm tearing up again! There is usually only a handful of people in attendance, so you have the whole cathedral...and the music...largely to yourself. A nighttime recital at St. Paul's in London is an awesome experience.
