    The first gun I purchased back in 1998: 4" 6 shot stainless. Replaced grips w/custom finger-grooved hardwood. I've worn it on my hip since 2003, when we moved to our 16 acre ranch in Northern CA. Shoots ALL loads. 38, +P, & .357.
    I was a new gun owner, having recently converted from an anti-2A Democrat. I later inherited a Glock 27 which led me to buy a 1911A1. I'm not a gun snob.. Good guns are good guns.

Not that it'll do us any good for THIS election at this point, what do you think can be done to make anti-gunners see the light? I mean we've tried the give and inch they take a mile school of thought, and now we have over 30,000 anti 2A laws in place. All in the name of saving the children. When you think about how FBI stats that prove hands and feet kill more people than all rifles combined, what do you think it is??

      @@dgunearthed7859 Sadly & simply I believe it boils down to two things: A) tribe mentality B) knowledge & experience.
      I was raised in two households
      1) my single mother in Los Angeles CA 2) my grandparents in (1 block outside) Portland OR.
      My mother became disabled, when I was 5-8 yrs old, in a series of accidents, which left her gov't dependant in 1970's CA to raise my younger brother and I. We lived in welfare neighborhoods & were taught Republicans were evil because they hated the poor and working-class. I was so brainwashed that when President Reagan was shot in 1981, which I learned of it in my 7th grade 1st period Social Studies class, I stood on my desk and cheered at the top of my lungs; I was paddled by VP Wilson for wishing ill on a president. My grandparents were retired union Democrats who'd both been born in 1909. They were both rural poor; my G'pa a western PA coal miner since age 13 to help raise his 7 younger siblings; my G'ma from northern WA, the eldest to 4 little brothers and whose father went blind by the time she was 11; she worked all kinds of odd jobs to help her parents. They came of age in the roaring 20s and worked hard to survive the Great Depression. They both served in WWII; G'pa in the South Pacific & G'ma in the WA shipyards. They met after the war and traveled the country following mining work (G'pa had munitions experience) and worked to build Eisenhower's highways. In 1960 my G'pa was in an auto accident then in a freak mishap was paralyzed when in the hospital recovering. He was rendered paraplegic and my G'ma became a nurse to vate for him at home. So combined, I grew up a working-class, welfare-state Democrat. My G'pa died in 1981 and G'ma passed in 1993 after two bouts of cancer. As an adult I discussed politics with her once and I learned she and G'pa voted for Reagan in 1980.; then she voted for Reagan again in 1984. I was shocked; how could she change? But she explained that FDR and LBJ had taken things too far and that hard work wasn't being valued and the gov't can't do for people what they ought to do for themselves. She hadn't changed, the party had. I wished I'd understood better and our discussion could've been more in depth. Dukakis & Clinton were my first two votes.
      I was doing what my tribe had done. I'd heard the endless praises of FDR, Truman, Kennedy, LBJ - Nixon was a LIAR. I call it rah-rah politics. We sit on the sidelines cheering our team to victory and wishing ill to the opponents. The "W" is all that matters. At some point how the game gets played is irrelevant - ONLY the trophy of power and title holder is important. And confirmation bias is now stronger than ever due to isolation via internet and social media. Tribe mentality is "we are right" and even worse "righteous" or morally superior - history will be on our side. What began in families or neighborhoods, that could later be changed by life experiences as we changed social circles of school, career, marriage, is now near impossible due to the calcification of social strata through MSM & BigTech Social Media constantly reinforcing their agenda.
      So how did I leave the Dem Party? Knowledge and experience outside my tribe. I approved of Bill Clinton's 1994 AWB; after all I voted for the guy. But interestingly enough, Christmas 1995 I inherited the hunting rifle of my new wife's late father. Her family were outdoorsman. So in 1996 I started reading all about guns in all the popular enthusiast rags. I immediately found my beliefs challenged, but what really got me was learning of how gun laws were written, their false claims, and most importantly their conflict with the law of the land - the US Constitution. I was intellectually devastated that I'd believed so many lies and been antigun for so long. Solely on those grounds I left the Democratic Party, the result of discovering and cherishing my rights I didn't know I'd had. I tried the Republican Party in 2000 but the subsequent WMDs (lack thereof) and Patriot Act caused my exit there. However, my point is I changed only because through experience I gained a new perspective which opened me up to new knowledge. Once I owned a gun it caused me to see things differently. I slowly began rejecting the rhetoric and propaganda from gov't and media.
      Unfortunately the changes my grandparents made late in life, or mine much earlier, were possible because the environments in which we lived allowed for observation and inquiry and independent action. That world has nearly vanished in 20 years via the propaganda stranglehold traditional corporate media (MSM) and new BigTech media - now the tail wags the dog. People are trapped in their tribes like caterpillars in cocoons but the transformation is sinister rather than transcendent. I firmly believe the only thing to we can do is introduce others into our tribe and give them experience in our world on an individual basis: self-reliance, interdependence and all the activities of daily living that imbibe and reflect those ideals: shooting, gardening, canning, camping, etc etc. But more relative is that others see we aren't the deplorable insane monsters that the media paints us out to be. Of course, this won't work with the full-blown socialist, but with moderate & centrist Dems who aren't drawn to the radical fringes of AOC, the Squad, BLM & Antifa. Our fellow Americans need to understand what we have to lose - freedom that many have bled and died for and once its gone many will bleed and die for to regain, it at all possible to do so.
      At this point I've little trust in the lesser-of-two-evils Republicans. As an libertarian leaning independent I believe the GOP is making a weak showing to save us from the corporate technocrats & socialist Dems. I really believe war on US soil is likely, as crazy as it sounds. So the time is short to extend the olive branch to any Dems we know. Possibly under the condition of "we think things are going to get bad and want to make sure you'll be ok" If that basic human decency and Americanism doesn't open the door I'm not sure what will.
      I apologize if the above isn't cohesive or cogent. I'm on my phone which won't let me scroll very easily, so it's likely rife with error. I hope I haven't waried you and answers your question.

      HOW TO BE SAVED (How to KNOW you are saved and not just hope you are)
      THE BAD NEWS
      All men have sinned and are in need of a Savior (Rom 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" ; Rev 21:8 "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all LIARS, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
      No man can come to God by his own good works and righteousness. (Isaiah 64:6 "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;" THE GOOD NEWS
      1 Timothy 1:15 tells us "This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners."
      How does Jesus save a sinner?
      From the beginning of the bible to the end, God has only forgiven sins through a BLOOD SACRIFICE, because he is a Holy God he can't forgive sins any other way, Heb 9:22 tells us, "...without shedding of blood is no remission." when Adam sinned, God had to kill a lamb in Adam's place as a substitue, In the Law of Moses, a Blood Sacrifice was demanded for the forgiviness of sins.
      Jesus came to die for the sins of the whole world, he came to be OUR Blood Sacrifice, OUR substittue, he came to bear OUR sins on the cross, in OUR place. John 1:29 "...Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."
      What must you do to be saved?
      YOU MUST REPENT; You must change from unbelief to belief.
      admit you are guilty, that you cannot do anything to save or help save yourself, and that you need Jesus Christ as your savior.
      Titus 3:5 "Not by works of righteousness which we have done. but according to his mercy he saved us,"
      Romans 3:28 "Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law."
      Romans 4:5 "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness."
      YOU MUST TRUST; placing your complete faith in what Jesus Christ already did to save you;
      John 1:12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:."
      Salvation comes by believing in WHAT Jesus did for you, 1 Cor. 15:1-4 tells us "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the GOSPEL which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
      2 By which also ye are SAVED, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
      3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, HOW that Christ died for OUR SINS according to the scriptures;
      4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"
      All you have to do to be saved, and on your way to heaven is place your TRUST in the shed Blood of Jesus Christ and nothing else, as sufficient for your salvation, (Rom 3:25 "Whom God hath set forth to be a PROPITIATION through FAITH IN HIS BLOOD, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;")
      (Propitiation means the act of appeasing wrath, Jesus took your place on the cross.)
      Will you accept Jesus Christ as your savior by simple faith, simply trusting in his shed Blood for sufficient to save your soul from hell?
      The last sentence is all you must do to be saved, and that is FAITH, not works, TRUSTING in what someone else did for you is the only thing that is not a work.
      Please watch Robert Breaker's video titled "HOW TO GET SAVED"
      If you have received Jesus Christ, by faith in his Blood, you now have eternal life and on your way to heaven!
      I John 5:11 "And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son."
      John 10:27-28 "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand."
      If you received Jesus Christ by faith as your Savior because of this message please let me know! You can copy and send this message to others!

    This is my first and only firearm so far. It's such a versatile and trustworthy weapon. You can shoot anything from 1400 fps 180 grain buffalo bore to the gentle 38 special. It's 4.2 inch barrel causes you to lose a little firepower, but also makes it capable to carry more easily - conceal carry even, with the right holster and allows you to legally hunt (in my state, anyway). The 7 shot cylinder is very nice, and gives you more than enough to handle 95% of the self defense situations you find yourself in. The safety bar mechanism also allows a good deal of trust that you can't give to other firearms. If you're looking for a firearm that gives you a lot of value, solid safety features and a lot of options, this is a good gun to get.

    I purchased the GP100 match champion with the 4.2 inch barrel. Having shot the 686 and Python I wanted to try the ruger. Hands down the GP100 is my favorite of the bunch. It is very accurate and tough as nails. I have only shot 357 mag ammo through it and am a bit over 600 rounds without a hiccup. Get one you will be impressed with it!

    Have had a GP100 for 26+ years almost, 4" blued and it's an excellent weapon. My one gripe was the plastic rear sight blade that broke, I have a cylinder matching 686 S&W 6" which is excellent having 2 weapons that share the same speed loaders! The real advantage of a Ruger over the S&W is the extractor plunger won't punch holes in your hand like the Smith does!

    Great review, I have had my gp100 for years and it’s alway preformed flawless with thousands of rounds through it. I did change the springs and grip but the stainless still looks excellent. I like Smith and Colt but when it comes right down to it, Ruger gp100 is what I carry and use out on our property. It’s been dropped, rained on, left outside in utv, and still looks and preforms like new.

    I have a blued 6shot GP100 manufactured in 1997 and I love shooting mine. The only changes from stock is I added a fiber optic front sight and a Hogue soft over-molded rubber grip. Smooth shooting even with .357 Mag loads. A perfect match with my Rossi repo 1892 lever in .357 Mag.

    I've had my GP100 for 18 years. An ultra dependable tank of a gun. I bobbed the hammer 10 years ago for snag proof concealed carry. I may go back to a full hammer, but will smooth out the crosshatching on top, as it is won't to take off pieces of flesh.
    A big pro that you didn't mention, is that when empty you have a deadly cudgel at hand.
    I prefer the rosewood inlay grips.
    It's my only revolver, as it is as close to perfect as it gets.
    The backup that I carry is a G17 with a 22 rd mag and two 33 rounders for just in case.
    I always appreciate the well informed and presented videos you put out.

    Ruger revolvers are the best, double or single action ... I've got several, and never had an issue with any of 'em. What's nice with the GP100 is you can shoot 357mag., 38Spec.+P, or just mild 38Special, even target wadcutters, and the bird shot cartridges for snakes and small rodents.
    Grips can be changed easily with options from Hogue, Pachmyer, etc.
    And, try the disassembly with the Ruger vs your S&W when you clean them. Ruger is much easier.

Mine came with the Hogue Monogrip and I love it. I do think I'll change out the front sight for a fiber optic one but that's the only change I'd make. I used to have a S&W 686 8 3/8" and it was a great gun, but I like this GP100 more. The last handgun I'd ever let go, which I don't see ever happening.

    I have recently purchased a GP100 5" Davidson Exclusive. I shot a couple hundred 38Spl through it at my first range session and it shot great. Took it home and cleaned it thoroughly. Second range outing and on my second cylinder of 357's the cylinder starting binding. I have owned revolvers since 1976 and this is the first time I have ever had a revolver malfunction that wasn't ammo caused. Sent it to Ruger and it came back with a note that said they replaced the hammer and did some polishing. Carried it to the range and couldn't believe the difference. It feels like it has had a custom trigger job. D/A pull is 6 1/2 lbs and single action pull is a crisp 3 lbs. Way to go Ruger.

    The ejection issues are almost certainly due to interference with the grips more than anything else. You will notice it even more with 357 and the longer cases. To get consistent ejection of empties you will have to cut back the grips. The factory "says" they are relieved but the cut out is never large enough. Same for S&W. Old wheelgunner Cop here who carried one for 10 years before Dept allowed changing to a semi.

      My local Scheels let me handle both before I bought one. The double-action trigger is better on the S&W gun in my opinion. The GP100 has two stages to the double action while the S&W 686 double action is one smooth pull.
      However, it will probably be my last S&W purchase because I found they are not right-to-repair friendly. All my other firearms include a parts diagram with a numbered parts list. My 686 did not. And S&W refused to provide one on request.
