Fact is, Ole is trying to compete against relentless opponents (Tuchel, Klopp, Guardiola) all operating at the very highest level of their trade. He’s not tactically sophisticated enough or ruthless (remember he spent most of his playing career happily sat on the bench, not ruthless enough to demand a starting position) to compete with Chelsea, City and Liverpool. This is the guy who had to get a job over the ditch in Aussie after failing so many times post SAF days so not sure what experience he's talking about. You'd think he'd at least remember how SAF setup the team to play with CR7 around. But think about this, how many of our ex players or ex assistant managers have left to become above average managers? CQ went to Madrid and didn't last, SM went to England and needed an umbrella... BR, SB, MH, MP, OGS etc all below average managers... did I miss someone who became an exceptional manager (or just above average manager) after leaving Utd?

Neville started this season by emphasising that “something is not right with Liverpool”. Should’ve actually dissected the issues at his own club more closely; this is no surprise at all tbh
Meanwhile Neville’s opinions on any United staff have shown themselves to be without any genuine honesty and are deflections of criticism towards them. In reality; nobody would talk of Ole’s “progress” if Chelsea didn’t have Lampard for half a season and Liverpool’s spine weren’t obliterated with injuries. I’m fairly confident they’d have been 4th and lost that Europa final (having dropped out of champions league group stages). To be honest; Ole’s “progress” is a mirage; no trophies won in 3 years. He’s probably the luckiest manager in the league in this century
Check the spending pattern and major injuries to key players for Man United and a Liverpool as a comparison last season; there was only a 4 point difference by the end of the season and they were beaten 4-2 at Old Trafford in the last meeting (it was an weakened Liverpool side too!). United actually spent at least half their games playing in “moments” / disjointed football.
