I have a rescue rottie. 1-1/2 year old. Brought her home and she was already house broke. She wakes me up in middle of night if she has to go. Ask what she wants, she looks toward door and starts off that way. Smartest dog I’ve had in my 70 years! Training now for recall. She sees our son as a sibling. Likes to wrestle with him. He’s 17 and martial arts black belt and she gives him a workout!

I got a rottie as was my first dog when I was 21 and I quickly learned how amazing the breed is so willing to learn and intelligent and these tips are right on point. My boys turning 9 in June and I don’t think I’ll have a better dog. If you don’t have constant patience and time to correct from day 1 till the end I wouldn’t suggest a Rottweiler.

Now owner and oh my what a experience the last few weeks. Definitely the smarted and easiest to train. Even at four months she is the most loving dog even if she bites me. There is a few problem areas as she is very high energy and has a cycle of sleep, exercise, interact with the household and sleep again lol. But he is correct that calm and trust is important. This set time out does work after a the mini episode of all things wrong lol. Hey she is a puppy, she is going through the paces here. Be glad folks there is so many people on youtube willing to give advice.

We're getting a female Rottweiler pup here in New Zealand from a top breeder, I've been off work after surgery and have been checking out sooo many dog training videos from many sources, my research started with Will and Fenrir,
After many hours of research over many days, typically I'd spend all morning each day, I started to watch Will And Fenrir as a recap, after subscribing to the channel,
My conclusion is I love Wills quickfire no nonsense down to it approach, just watched the what the above video again, and in my opinion it is absolute GOLD!
We are following Will's advice on everything from now on.

Great outline of training. It starts from the time you pick them up, through out their life. Life long commitment but worth the work in leaps and bounds.
I've never regretted it. I miss our beautiful lila so much but we're so glad we rescued her. They said she had a long list of behaviour problems when we went to see her, I think that made us more determined to adopt her because we knew she'd be stuck there.
She took to the training and home family life really quickly. Boundaries, trust, disaplin, love and understanding. The rescue centre couldn't believe the difference in her when we took her back for a photo shoot three months later. Now we're waiting for the right rottie to show up again, when you know, you just know ☺

@@nothisispatrick6332 keep a leash on the pup when he is awake and free (not in a crate if you are crate training) this will allow you to control him in the environment a lot easier. Engage him and tire him out. They want attention and stimulation. Give him naps just like a toddler. They will fight their sleep and act out but as soon as you get them to relax they will knock out for 1-2 hours and you will have to repeat the cycle. Take them out a lot, to different places. Give them new experiences.

Hold him on the ground in a laying position ,side of his head flat on the floor till he stops fighting and let him go as soon as he stops fighting, if he nips when you let him go , do it again. He will see you as pack leader and you will win his respect. Obviously you want to do this while hes very young. This is a trick i learned from Cesar the dog whisperer and we used it on our pup, worked like a charmand and only took a day or two.

@@cozymachico2013 , diapers ? Are you serious ? Dogs don't wear diapers....where did you get that idea ? You need to get yourself and that puppy to a trainer IMMEDIATELY before you ruin the poor dog. Tell them that you don't know anything at all about dogs and to start from the beginning and teach you everything that you need to know. There are a million potty training videos on CZcams.
Potty training is easy , take the puppy out after he eats or drinks , every hour or so , and also as soon as he wakes up. Take him to the same spot every time. As soon as he uses the bathroom outside , give him a treat and lots of praise. Let him know that you are very happy that he used the bathroom. If he goes in the house , there's no point in fussing him. If you catch him in the act , say " No " ...scoop him up and take him outside to his bathroom spot. If he finishes using out there , lots of praise and a treat. Be consistent . In no time your puppy will understand that going to the bathroom outside gets him a treat , praise and happiness.

With my previously owned pit pull terrier that collar worked quite well. The beep was enough to get him to stop whatever he was doing, and if it didn't the vibration did. I only ever had to use the shock mode twice.

His obedience is A1 (recall, heel, name, leash work etc) however he eats very aggressively growling into his bowl. I can put my hand in the bowl and touch him he’s just growls and this literally started about 2weeks ago.
And making him wait doesn’t seem to do the trick. He will wait as long as I need him to, but as soon as he gets the command the aggressive eating begins.

    • @1packatak
      @1packatak Před 3 lety

      Raw is the absolute best!!!!!
If you cannot do that, then a very high quality premium food. I live in the US. And I feed Orijen and Fromm.
Keep them trim. The Rott puppies from my breeder average about 8-10 lb weight gain/mo for males until about 8-9 months old. They then slow down and bulk up. Females are slightly less. A good size male should be around 115-125 lbs when full grown (around age 2-3). Some males do not mature until 3-4 yrs old.
Keep them exercised. If you have a place they can swim, that is the best exercise of all. It works all their muscles, heart and lungs yet is easy on the joints. And almost all the Rotties I know love to swim.
Good luck with your pup. Rottweilers are an absolutely amazing breed.

Think one of the very important one is be patient. It be cool if you did one on the rebellious stage you will hit after his a few months old specially in males. Most of my females where good but all my males seem to hit it. It goes away but can be discouraging for first time owner. 👍

Just found this site....If my puppy is 4 months can I start doing this?
He does sit, down, stay and leave it and he is potty trained. I am wondering if I can start crate training during day as I have not. I thought I didn’t have to crate him since I was home with him. I realized that I can’t leave him in there for more than 30 minutes without whining. What to do?

Don't take him out until he has had all of his Parvo shots , they are very , very , susceptible to Parvo. Parvo kills.

You can take him in your yard. Or a neighbor’s where you know the dog is healthy. But not places like dog parks.
You have to balance socialization with being careful to prevent infections. And this is a critical age for socialization.
If you go to pet stores, carry him or put him in a cart you have wiped down. Also carry him at the vet’s office.
Also know the signs of parvo and if you think he may be showing them, call your vet. Better safe than sorry.
Rotties have been said to be more susceptible to parvo than most dogs. I don’t know if this is a fact.

So why does the add specifically say rottweiler but then go to a generic plan for any breed........

  • @dylvasey
    @dylvasey Před 7 měsíci

Potty training and sit stay are no where near as important for a new pup as socialisation. It's ridiculous to not even mention that. Rotties are whats known as a dominant breed. The males in particular are known to be prone to being dog aggressive. You socialise from day one and for the rest of their lives. You take that pup everywhere and introduce him/her to everything possible. New noises, new people, new dogs of all sizes and shapes (if your dog is still being immunised then carry him/her). Do this and you will have a balanced dog who doesn't react out of fear of the unknown. This is by far the most important part of owning a Rottweiler.
There's no point in your dog knowing where to wee, and sit on command if its terrified of everything. You will lend up with a 130lb bag of muscle that reacts to dogs and possibly people. Do the best for the breed and never allow stereo types that cause negativity to raise its head.
Training is second. You have a dog that is clever. Very clever. But getting your dog to sit or stay is a bi-product. The training is there to form a bond and should also carry on for the rest of the dogs life. Rotties again are a dominant breed. If you are not worthy of being its leader, it will take over. It is constantly looking to see if you are worthy. Again if you are not, the Rottie will decide whats best for it and not consult you.
Equally important is what not to do. You should never try to ''train'' a Rottweiler to protect or even play aggressive. You will end up with a dog that has learned to solve problems with its power. The Rottweiler doesn't need training to protect you. You can have a couch potato or a dog you think is the most lazy, happy to see everyone pile of fur you've ever seen - But when (if ever) it's time to act, that dog will act and act without fear. Unless that dog is going into security or Schutzhund, you will only cause problems that you will have to correct later.
I work with full international champions in the search and rescue field. I have worked exclusively with Rotties for decades. They are a truly staggering breed, capable of pretty much everything. They should not be owned by first time owners or even dog owners who have never had a big, intelligent dominant breed. DO NOT buy one if you don't understand how much work you will need to put in.
