    Thank you for all your videos! I've learned a lot, especially about sharpening and just recently ordered a cerax 1000/6000 as my first stone and one of those rust erasers you recommended. Can't wait to try the stone on some knives.

    Thank you for the good work! I'm pleased to say I learned a lot watching your videos, I manage to sharp my knives to a razor sharpness, and even fixing knives for some of my friends, all that with my only cheap stone, the King 1000/6000. Although most of my knives are simple low HRC Victorinox and Tramontina practical work knives I own an old Tojiro DP and somehow it works! I find the satisfaction of getting an old knife razor sharp almost religios experience) Planning to invest in a Miyabi Birchwood chef knife later this year, just because of the way its crafted. If you are running out or storage space i'm happy to help by taking one of those stones!

    Thanks for all your whetstone sharpening videos. I've learned a lot. Recently purchased two Debado SNEs - 600 and 1500. Recently learned to be more conscious about pressure and slurry - depends on the stone. I find them fast and effective, when used correctly. Very different from the Mino Sharp 220/1000 and Shun 1000/6000 I have used previously. Happy Holidays.

    I'd really fancy a Suehiro stone all I have is a King 1200 grit and I could really use a higher grit stone for finishing but they are so expensive! 😅

    The splash and go Suehiros sound interesting, but alas, my Chosera 800 and 3000 will probably last me many more years, so I have to find a good reason to get a Suehiro. Especially since I get really good results with the Choseras. I am looking forward to the knife restoration videos!

    Another awesome video Ryky. I’d love to actually take a sharpening class by someone like you. Watching is great but actually learning “side-by-side” is probably the best teacher.
    By the way...I know you just lost your buddy...Your German Shepherd. I’m very sorry for your loss. I’m a retired police K-9 handler and I know the feeling of losing a dog that’s “almost human.” I have had 2 more shepherd’s since he passed away (over 10 years ago). Do your best to find another Shepherd for you and your family. It’s hard work to raise them from a puppy (doing it with a female who’s just now 21 months old) but it’s worth the investment of your time and the pay back in unconditional love is priceless!! Good luck. Best to you and your family.

      Ryky, Not any longer. I’m retired (thank goodness). I served in the Army first (Desert Storm), then served as a police officer until 2011. My current dog (Heidi) is just a “house” dog. Loving, loyal, happy (and a bit crazy) at times!

    Does Suehiro allow purchase directly from them or do we have to go through distributors like Amazon? I need some proper stones and I think these look promising. Also interested in buying their sink base whetstone holder. It looks better than the one you use and recommend (has a rubber pad instead of full metal surface)

    Wow! I'm excited to hear about this. Always been interested in Suehiro stones but never picked one up. I'll have to consider them for my next purchase.
    Speaking of which, I wonder if anyone can give me advice? I recently was gifted a pretty hard knife, the Yoshihiro White #2 Kurorochi finish yangiba, which is treated to a 63 HRC. My current stone lineup is sad, but I'm trying to upgrade soon. Currently I have the home version of the King 1k/6k stone and a few misc. low grit stones I got from other cooks at my restaurant.
    Can you (or anyone :D ) give me advice on a good stone to put a nice edge on the yanagiba? It came sharp enough to cut paper, but I think it can get a lot sharper. Maybe the new Suehiro stones should be considered?

    This is kind of weird. I've had an 8000 stone that came in a box like those in the lower left side of the stack under your hands at 8:20 I'd recently begun wondering who made that stone. Hi, would love a recommendation from you. Knew to knife sharpening with stones. Just took your advice and picked up the Chosera 800. But now of course realize that I need a finishing stone of higher grit. What would be your pick if you were only going to buy one more stone to compliment the 800? If you get this, also, I'd love to get one of your 'old' strops, if they've not all flown out the door. Will be glad to pay for shipping,, will send prepaid envelope..
    There was a carbon fiber comment,, where the commentor said beware of fragile carbon.. Just make sure you get your carbon with a toughened resin system, and not a brittle one. His comments about plastic alternatives are valid though. My choice in the plastic arena would be clear polycarbonate,, as in bullet proof glass. Really appreciate your channel.

    • @jovanapavlovic7207
      @jovanapavlovic7207 Před 6 lety +1

      You dont need diamond stone at all. Shapton glass sharpens s125v so s110v will cause 0 problems. Everything you need is glass 320, 500 and spyderco uf ceramic simply cus s110v works much much better with coarser edge. I do own atoma 1200 and trust me, you dont need it. Btw norton sic sharpens well hi vanadium steels for small amount of money.

    Hi Rycky, I have the Global stone set, 120, 1000 and 4000. I'm itching for another stone, would you recommend a 6000, 8000 or higher. What brand?

    Did you ever test out the gokumyo stones? I'm eyeing the 10k and 20k and wanted to know your thoughts.
