    Ryky, I am so sorry to hear that you have officially lost your mind. There is hope, however. My mind was unofficially blown in the early 70s by substances of which I cannot disclose. Nonetheless, my mind has regained its composure, and I believe this is possible too in your case. Keep up the good work. I have a Shapton Glass and Chosera, and I am planning on a Cerax purchase in the near future, albeit in different grits.

  • @Fidasaind
    @Fidasaind Před 7 lety

    How do you like the rollers? I'm always afraid of falling flat on my face. I assume that is why it is next to the wall. I've always been a fan of the smart trainers (Wahoo Kickr Snap for me and my wife). Lets me feel inclines and do ERG mode style workouts. But being in that ultra fixed position does get uncomfortable. I did a 4 hour trainer ride this spring and wow.. that hurt more than 8 hour outdoor rides! It was simulating Mt Lemmon in Tucson and I was so done fighting the resistance on my trainer by the end!

    • @Burrfection
      @Burrfection  Před 7 lety +1

      take a little getting used to. trainers are painful to ride, and i got rid of mine.

    • @Fidasaind
      @Fidasaind Před 7 lety

      Oh yeah they are. Big one for me is I have a carbon frame and there is a huge question about warranties and carbon frames on trainers going around the Zwift community. Because I'm a big guy and I use the trainer so much I am afraid of causing damage so I don't get out of the saddle as much anymore and throw my weight around. The result is spending long periods of time sat in the saddle without changing positions or getting up to stretch. I've started making a rule to stand about 15s every 15-20 minutes. And completely getting off of the bike and walking around every hour. But doing group rides and workouts is hard because it's not like you can take a break and have everyone just wait.
      I've seen some that are a fork in the front and rollers in the back. That may be a cool middleground for newbies like me that are afraid of the rollers. Or maybe that new Kickr Climb that Wahoo showed off may help. Since it changes the up and down as you climb and descend. Only catch there is buying a new trainer. Cycling and Japenese knives. I need a nice cheap hobby. :p

      instead of getting the KW 65, get a good 1000 grit stone and just enjoy it while you save up another $40-60 for a good 5000-6000 polishing stone. the KIng 1k deluxe is the same as the KDS 1000 side, which is the big brother of the KW-65

      If your looking for just one stone ~1k grit is a good balance. I have the king deluxe 1200 and it works great, its on amazon for like $20 works on every steel ive tried it on including some of those super high wear resistance steels.
      If your just learning dont bother with the a high grit polishing stone yet since if your knife isnt sharp of the med grit it wont get any better on the high grit. Get the 1200 and a strop to help clean up the edge after you finish.

I've found it more than triples the soak time on the 2020 size takes nearly an hour for the #1000 2020 stone to stop drinking !

    After watching one of your video about Cerax i bought 1000/6000 Cerax. To be honest those stone are good but not as good as i was thinking. Cerax is a very soft stone and make to much clay and taking long time to sharp. So what we see in video is not totally like that. I am useing Cerax almost 1 to 2 times in a week to sharping my yanagiba and i found that this stone is so soft that it became thinner very fast. ohh i forget to tell that after unbox new stone i found that my 1000 side is not totally plain and simple. There were very small holes on it. Anyway i got new stone form the shop but those new one was the same. I even send email to Cerax and send photos of my stones. They reply me and apologize me..... long story short. I am not very happy after using Cerax. But still its not a bad stone.

    congratulations! I'm not that good at sharpening, but I really enjoy your videos and have learned a lot from you! looking forward to hear your opinions on your new stones and knives! Question for you, I'm trying to learn how to sharpen carving tools; Japanese chisels and planers, and etc. Maybe it's a bit outside of the scope of your videos, but I'm wondering if you might be able to provide some insight on how to sharpen some of these tools, or maybe which stones to use? I've heard that woodworking tools usually require harder stones that produce less of a slurry than what is often used for knives, but I'm not really sure of where to start.
    Anyway, thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences :)

      After sharpening my knives for the last 15 years on diamond plates I had bought for sharpening my chisels and planes. and could never get my knives razor or double edged sharp.
      I found Ryky's channel and learned how to properly get my knives seriously razor sharp.
      I have been slowly over the last year upgrading to whetstones, first with the King KDS 1000/6000 combo stone, then the shosera 800 and 3000.
      But now I have purchased what should be my last stone with my own "white brick" Cerax 1000 in the 3030 size. I just received it today and have not yet used it (this stone should last me the rest of my life)(it's a monster). Can't wait.
      [edit] Now I just need some real knives. I only have what I would call restaurant quality chef prep knives.

    I think you should challenge each of your top stones in their true grit rating in each class of stone they sent you. So say, Shapton glass 320 vs equivalent Suehiro's, Chosera 800 vs equivalent Suehiro's etc. The Cerax 1000 came in 2nd to the Chosera 800, but what about their higher quality stones?

    Maybe W and G indicate hardnes of the stone. G - soft or very soft, W - very hard.

    • @Michael_GER_1988
      @Michael_GER_1988 Před 6 lety +1

      No its not right. G and W are for the abrasive. The right answer is: G = Green Carbonrundum W = White Alundum. Green Carbonrundum is harder then White Alundum. Im very interested in a comparison video of this two stones! @Burrfection can you make a comparison video for us please ?

    Can't you get a Wiged Edge to and do a test? Price is about the same as 3 Stones in this class.

    • @hrhamada1982
      @hrhamada1982 Před 6 lety

      it IS out of the box, but you constantly have to replace the stones on the wicked edge and you have to go to their company to replace them. Just like in jet cartidges that are "microchipped". You have to buy their proprietary brand name to replace it (but you can buy from any retailer).
      Wicked edge is good if you need the same exact edge degree number like you're doing it as a small business for a customer. But do you want to drag out all that junk every time you need to sharpen? Just use real stones unless you've got bad hand shakes or unless you're doing dozens a week and need a NUMBER degree, to tell people.

      yes, sometimes the same exact product made by a subcontractor is just rebranded by another "manufacturer".
      I don't know about the validity is correct but it IS great to hear there might be a choice. But just because it LOOKS the same, doesn't mean it IS the same. I have seen dozens of counterfeit shins, globals, miyabi's etc.
      I'll keep my eyes and ears open to this possibility. I'm always looking to save money!
