My father was living at the farm that was next to the airfield and was 14 years old when the Americans arrived in 42-43.He quickly befriended lots of the airman who taught him to drive ,towards the end of the war they regularly took him on leaflet drops over France. My Grandmother did washing for service personnel and also had them round for meals. The family were Mr & Mrs A Dye.

Why can't these bloody people / company's JUST leave these WARTIME AIRFIELD'S alone they are our history to the [ RAF / AND USAF/USAAF ] , they have no respect at all.

It does when you fly over at 1000 feet in a glider or light aircraft especially in certain weather conditions and at certain times of the year. Remember the first time I flew over en route from Earl's Colne to Wendling and return by a different flight path to record 23 Wartime airfields in 2 hours. Quite a challenge but we did it !

To think that in that place, in the east of England and on days like this, windy, gloomy and cold, hundreds of young men from the USA, some from California, Florida and Texas spent many a day there, the last time they ever had their feet on land was there. Makes you think, especially when it gets dismantled and demolished but they call it progress and we have to move on.
