Volk 50-45 against another p4p level fighter and one of the all time greats, as well as destroying Aldo, Ortega, Zombie. Not even mentioning the win over Mendes. Hes clearly the number 1 for me.

It’s a weird one. I feel Geordie views Usman’s wins over Colby as much better wins as they were razor close but because Volk’s last 3 have been absolute beat downs, the competition is viewed as inferior. Volk is a victim of his own success

@@myiqis2752 no there isn’t. Usman outstruck Colby in each round but the 4th and the 2nd round was arguably 10-8. Volkanovski got dropped two rounds in a row against Max. 18/27 media scores gave that fight to Holloway. Not a single media member scored that fight for Colby.
That’s a 49-46 scorecard for Usman.

i remember people talking so highly of max before the volk fight, but now hes just a bum. its like "NO U IDIOTS!" max isnt a bum, volk made him look like one bc thats how good he is. he put on a striking clinic against one of the best strikers in UFC history.

This is the problem with lots of fans, they've never trained in an aspect of MMA so can't appreciate the level of skill fighters have. They just go off wins and losses so see that Max lost three times to Volk so think it's done. I mean after the second loss Max dominated a top 5 in Kattar then beat Yair. He's clearly the number 2 in the division at the moment and is still a lot younger than Volk (I think Max is only just 30) The guy still has time to come back and get the belt again before he retires. Just don't think it is wise for him to go to 155. I don't know if he's big enough after seeing that Dustin fight

Saying usman is No.1 P4P because he beat colby x2, jorge x2 and bruns. Volk has beat holloway 3 times (Who is and always has been higher P4P than all 3 of those) plus aldo and ortega (Submission threat with decent stand up similiar to burns). Even look at Izzy hes beat rob whitaker twice and there is very little if anything between colby and him P4P.

While I agree with what you say, using the Aldo fight is really sus. P4P is meant to be thing of recent events the same way the rest of the UFC rankings are. The Aldo fight was 3 years ago and sure Aldo has been on a decent run since then but I don't think it should bolster Volk's current P4P ranking.

Which if Usmans opponents are higher than Max on the pound for pound list of that’s right none of them. Welterweight is not the most stacked in the division. That is currently bantamweight or maybe lightweight.
Welterweight has gotten better recently with the introduction of Rahkmanov, Brady, and Hamzat.

Tbf I think welterweight is more stacked than lightweight in terms of title contenders and bantamweight lacks the star power that lightweight and welterweight have which makes it slightly less exciting.
Agreed! Bantamweight will be the most exciting division in the coming years. Lightweight is in a bit of a dip right now but I have no doubt it'll spike again with the title fight, possible return of Conor, Volk moving up (superfight), and not to mention killers like Fiziev and Paddy gaining attention now.

I don't feel like true geordie gets many things wrong, but his take on volk not being P4P #1 is crazy man volk has made his division look so easy. Volk and Izzy have closed the gap in their division I'm keen to see what Usman can do against Leon as Leon is a substantial test for Usman as he has an excellent range for striking and putting people in the clinch and doing damage. The only things that look bad for Leon are the wrestling and grappling of Usman as that is so strong but like Jai Herbert and Nathanial Wood said "all we have done is wrestle, wrestle, and wrestle"

Usman is great no doubting that but let’s dissect this a little bit. Two of his title defences have been against Masvidal who has 14 losses. The second fight with Colby IMO was a draw. He starched burns, which was impressive. So I give Usman credit but to call him the P4P best is not IMO justified. That title should be placed on Alex V, JJ since he is still fighting, or Izzy.

I think the P4P ranking should be a bit more fluid tbh, Volk has had 2 fights already this year against Zombie and Max, whereas the last fight Usman had was late last year against Colby. Seeing as the wins Volk has gotten and the way he did warrants his position right now as the P4P number 1 (particularly the Max W, seeing as Max was ranked 8th in the P4P ranking too, which Colby wasn’t when he faced Usman). If Usman beats Leon, I think he should get his throne back as the P4P number 1, let alone if he does it in a convincing way.
Max was ranked 6 pfp, he got bumped down to 8 after the Volk loss in the trilogy

The reason why Volk is clear is because he’s always shorter and has less reach than most of his opponents, but still manages to look better with his stand up. Usman wins over Jorge are giants meh wins, and both Colbert fights were close. Usman is very good of course, but I feel people are rating him higher than where he is at. Also, he doesn’t come close to GSP
Putting Masvidal into the elite frame, is the biggest joke I’ve heard.
That’s the common consensus now but there were lots of people who actually picked masvidal to beat Usman in both fights. I know that’s crazy but that’s just the case.

Oliveira is my favorite fighter right now, so it's only fair that if Volk beats him, he becomes my p4p, as it stands I have usman. I think Colby is better than Holloway, I think masvidal is better than Ortega, and i think Burns is better than Zombie, and probably the other two as well lol Usman is p4p, and beating the newer version of Leon just adds to that. My prediction is a 3rd round KO of Edward's happens, but doesn't put Usman over Volk in the rankings, despite him already being higher imo.

Volk is easily P4P 1. 145 is deeper n 170 today (2018-22) is truly nothing compared to 2009-14. If u actually watch those fights u see guys like Condit (better striking) n Hendricks (WAY BETTER wrestling) alone were levels above Colby n Burns just as an example. 170 is overrated today. If guys like Masvidal n a post retired Askren can come in n make noise than that’s a big problem. It’s definitely looking up from here though with the younger talent making moves.

No offense but Geordie seems to know hardly anything about MMA when talking about P4P and taking these fighters. Volk is deservedly ahead of Usman on the P4P list. He mentions Ortega giving Volk problems when the same can be said for Usman in just about every one of his fights besides Jorge. Colby was arguably winning their first fight before the KO happened in the fifth (which shouldn't have happened because he was landing blows to the back of the head), Burns wobbled him, and Colby wobbled him several times in their last fight. Also this other guy talking about not taking Charles seriously until the Gaethje win is also laughable. Charles was on a 10 fight win streak going into that fight against a guy who's record was 6-3 since entering the UFC and he's the true test? Please stop with this nonsense.

You have to take title defenses out of the argument they dont matter in p4p rankings so just ask yourself the queastion if usman and vilk had the same body who would win in a fight and thats volk and i think charles and petr yan as well like usman is not the best fighter out there in terms of the best in the world idk he should be #4 or #5 on the p4p list hes not number 1

Everyone is top tier until they aren’t. At the time Burns was classified top tier. Same with Masvidal. It’s difficult but for me I have Volk P4P very closely followed by Usman. I wouldn’t argue with anyone who says the opposite though. Both are top of the food chain
Also the way I define P4P is if they all weighed the same. If they were all in the same weight division who comes out in top. I think a welterweight Volk beats a welterweight Usman.
