Colby looked scared. He fought like he was worried about getting knocked out.
True maybe he was after seeing what Leon managed to do to usman with the head kick and maybe he didn't want that lmao
Mumblington failed to take Leon to the seventh layer of hair.
@@prentrix Right? If he can knock out Usman then he can definitely do it to Covington.
Leon just had great distance control
Agreed
Colby went from claiming to be the best, to calling out Wonderboy in less than 24hrs. The decline is there for all to see
Colby is the best against ~ 40 year olds on losing streaks
Dude is finished as a top-level fighter.
Wonderboy slaps him around but I don’t need that build up
beat up a 40 yr old who cant wrestle, then getting 4th title shot. why not? this worked twice already
Instead of fighting shavkat or belal who has been talking the most about colby. Colby is pathetic.
That performance was absolutely embarrassing from Colby. It should've been Belal fighting for the title that night anyway.
Yeah I actually agree with Leon on that, think we can all say now he did deserve it more
Now Leon is saying Belal doesn’t deserve the title shot.
What’s more embarrassing tho? Losing a title fight or being a cuck like Geordie 😂😂😂😂
Don't act like you were saying that before the fight lol
But Leon had a great performance?
Wasn’t a boring fight at all. Leon made Colby looked like he never belonged in the top 10.
It was a boring fight but let’s be real it wasn’t a great fight, but that’s down to Colby doing little to nothing and Leon being switched on and stuck to his game plan. If anyone is to blame its Colby for standing there and constantly going backwards…
My definition of a non boring fight is one I would happily watch again. I would never watch that fight again, it was a glorified sparring match
Anybody who says it was boring was probably rooting for Colby. Because if I put myself in that POV, I would be bored too. Colby did nothing the entire fight.
If you were true neutral or going for Leon, more enjoyable
It was boring, but didn’t take anything away from Leon he dominated.
Stop trying to be different it was a boring fight lol
I do not know how many noticed when Leon was walking in the ring before the first round introduction, Leon's trainer looked at him and with his finger tapped his head repeatedly. He was telling Leon, be smart, do not lose your concentration, and Leon nudged back at him like telling him, I got this.
Ngl to me if anything Colby looked nervous on the walkout while Leon looked calm.
But Leon had the opportunity to go for it more, especially after 3 rounds banked, what is Colby gonna knock you out ? No, I know it's a fight and to some it's not worth the risk. But if you can't risk it against this version of Colby with a beat up leg. Then this is gonna be a very lackluster title reign
@@Dukestboy96but in a way after colbys comment the pressure is on Leon just as much after, he would be thinking “imagine if I lost to this guy on top of saying that that about my dad.” It would drive you absolutely crazy so I think Leon picked being measured and getting the win first instead of going for a massive statement which involves massive risks
he did try to finish him with chokes and made mistakes trying to dominate positions which ended up costing him in those moments. i think after so many low kicks he should have set up more high kicks though @@Dukestboy96
I think Leon did fantastic considering how hard/low Colby went with his comments about his dad to rile him up. Staying composed like that was the correct answer, to me.
Totally agree. You can’t say going into the fight that he needs to stay composed and not get emotional only to slate him afterwards for not taking more risks and getting a finish.
He did exactly what everybody said he needed to do.
Thank you for saying this. These people are human beings, believe it or not. We witnessed in realtime Leon’s reaction to what CC said at the press conference. He spoke with openness and honesty after the fight about the effect CC’s words had on him. The man was on the edge of tears speaking to Rogan, having won.
After the press conference, high-profile and knowledgeable commentators such Usman changed their pick from Leon to Colby because of concerns he had gotten into the champion’s head.
On the night itself, Leon dismantled Colby with clinical efficiency, to the point where the most partisan of home crowds were booing him. He grappled. He damaged Colby’s legs to the point he could barely walk out of the arena. He handled all of this with incredible dignity.
Commentators such as TG today: disappointing performance by Leon. He had an opportunity to give Colby a beating and get revenge for those comments. What a wasted opportunity to do everything we were saying we worried about him doing and lose the title.
Utterly ridiculous tbh. Sigh. Good for you, Leon. Happy for him 🙏🏾
I don’t care how boring it was all I care about is Leon got the win
Same
I wish Brian was this quick to cover a Leon fight after he got the headkick KO lmfao (I’m only joking)
Im not
It's not as dramatic though
I feel like colby is at the beginning of the Tony Ferguson esque decline now. The losses going to start stacking up as he gets older and the welterweight division gets more stacked
Nah this is a bit to far fall offs like Tony are every now and then like a BJ Penn type fall off Colby isn’t that good imo but he can still beat certain guys like Belal , Wonderboy, and Brady
At least Tony puts up a fight.
@@bckdohbenji Nah Belal beats Colby. He might beat Wonderboy but even I'm not totally sure about that, Wonderboy didn't look terrible in a loss to a killer like Shavkat.
Belal sucks. He was actually being aggressive against Leon but was getting pushed back, taken down, and pieced up. Wonderboy is a jobber at this point. There's a reason washed up Colby called him out. Shavkat is dangerous with his submissions but his take downs aren't good. Honestly Leon is in a great position to have a long reign. Usman is out of the picture after two losses to him and Khamzat is out of the division. @@madgavin7568
The difference is Colby will never fight top talent or the young guys. He looks for the oldest guys in the division
Leon made a mistake trying to wrestle Colby. Colby's leg was completely dead by round 3, if Leon had kept on striking he could've done a lot of damage, and maybe got a finish.
I was thinking that too but I believe he did that because he was tired
I think he just wanted to prove he’s outright better than Colby
It frustrated me 😂🤦♂️that he went for a takedown i don't know why fighters do that you're clearly superior in the feet rocking your opponent and then you take the fight to the ground (glover vs jiri) and most of the times it gives room for the opponent to recover and clinch neutralising the offence 5 more leg kicks and colby's would've started wobbling giving him a higher chance of finishing the fight wrestling colby was a lack of fight IQ and Leon's style is more of point fighting he rarely knocks out opponents the usman fight was just a perfect kick .
@@Nigel514he did it on purpose to prove a point because he felt no danger from Colby at that point. Like “hey look I’m beating you at your own game”
@@SettingSunz Well I guess he proved himself wrong: 5:04 mins of control time for Colby, and 1:37 for Leon. How bizarre that he said he'd end Colby after the dead-dad comment, and then instead pulls out an Izzy vs Romero, Vettori, Cannonier style snoozefest instead - outstriking him by 3-5 strikes in the first 3 rounds and then getting outstruck and controlled in the final 2. Embarrassing from both guys
The ring rust killed Colby, Leon Edwards has been super active, Colby should of took a tune up
This dude is so out of the sport of mma that he think that Chimaev is still fighting at 170
Ikr. Why even make content around MMA and the UFC when you don't even have a clue
He stopped caring about MMA after Usman lost to Edwards because of how much he was praising Usman to refusing to acknowledge Edwards KO for months (except for once jokingly.) He’s become such a casual it’s kind of embarrassing. He wasn’t ever that knowledgeable about MMA anyway, but he was never THIS bad.
He got his base of viewers that like combat sports and this get him more people watching even if he does not care about it
Colby fell off
Leon is the real deal
True geordies a proper casual 😂
GSP had 9 title defenses, 8 by decision. That’s how it goes.
I don’t think Leon deserves much, if any, stick for his performance. He was sharp and calculated with his striking. Colby offered nothing for 20 minutes and didn’t want to engage in exchanges on the feet. It would’ve been daft for Leon to go all guns blazing and risk getting caught, when Colby wasn’t throwing for the whole fight.
Colby is embarrassing. Talked all that hot stuff and then got schooled
Dillon Danis threw more shots than Colby
I thought it was a masterful performance from Leon, exactly what I want to see. He absolutely shut down one of the most aggressive challengers in the division, it was nothing to do with Colby, it was mostly Leons work. He shredded Colby's leg within seconds of the fight starting, he managed the distance almost perfectly and every time Colby stepped into Leons space he got snipered which made him hesitant for the rest of the fight. His takedowns didn't work for the most part, and when they eventually did he struggled to keep Leon down. It was Leons skills that got that result, not a decline in Colbys
I believe it was a mixture of both. And while it was a bit of a matersclass, if it's so easy and your opponent isnt really a threat in those last few rounds why are we not trying to make a statement here? Finish the job especially after the things Colby said. I'm not saying throw the kitchen sink but don't just point fight for 5 rounds. This was a missed opportunity
@@Dukestboy96 I don't entirely disagree but I don't think a fight has to end with a finish. Going for a finish could end up with mistakes made and throwing it all away, and it could easily have gone that way anyway. Colby wasn't out of that fight, he just wasn't given the opportunity to have any success. Even when he got the takedown, Leon was able to shut down his progress. But hunting for a finish could easily have given Colby the chance to get back into the fight and win. I don't need to see finishes, I enjoy a complete shut out like that, I think it's just as big a statement
@@FightCentralUK fair enough and if Colby looked on point I'd probably agree, while maybe a bad comparison it's like how belal barely beat a clearly compromised Gilbert burns. But burns actually had finishing potential. Not sure last night Colby had any finishing ability whatsoever
although in many aspects i agree i think it’s a bit far to say it was “nothing to do with colby”. regardless of leon’s masterful performance, colby still looked way off the pace.
His takefowns didnt work because he didnt attempt them due to being scared of getting sparked in front of the Don 😂
I see a lot of non competitors are saying the fight was boring or they were not entertained. If you train, you will see how skillful Leon is and how he neutralised Colby. Leon made Colby look like a complete newbie.
Yeah it's embarrassing the amount of MMA fans that have no clue what's going on or what it takes
A fight can only be so interesting when one person isn’t even trying.
'Leon made Colby look like a complete newbie' and that's why people say it's boring, lol
Such a corny excuse the fight was fucking boring. You don't need to be a competitor to have that opinion
Colby didn’t wanna get ko’d in front of trump. You’re right, Colby even looked shook walking out.
I believe someone like Shavkat Rakhmonov would absolutely bring the killer out of Leon. I hope he gets the next title shot 🤞🏻🥇
I strongly doubt Leon vs Khamzat will happen as Khamzat seems super set on competing at middleweight now. Instead, after Shavkat being the first to submit Wonderboy I think it makes the most sense for him to give Leon his toughest challenge.
Shavkat needs to beat another top 5 before a title shot. On merit, Behal deserves the shot. He's beaten multiple top guys
agreed. shavkat still not beat a top5, although i don't doubt he will@@connorfrost195
I think Leon playing it safe was something he had in his mind because after all, the buzz was around will Leon stay composed and will he be too emotional so he played it safe to make sure he wasn’t over emotional and didn’t get caught with something
Leon is literally a star after that headshot dead
6:56 - Khamzat has moved up mate... He's not making 170 again
thanks for the recap. i fell asleep and missed the event.
Wish Geordie talked a bit about the undercard - woulda loved to hear his opinion on the Bryce Mitchell loss and the Tony vs Paddy fight
You called it spot on fairplay
Khamzat is on a different division now, Shavkat vs Leon would be a good fight
Bro were did you get the t shirt from?
I was waiting for this. Thank you. 🙏💙
Leon and GSP are the exact same fighter (lots of finishes as contenders and to gain the belt, safe but dominant performances as champions), but GSP never got this level of 💩 for it.
It’s more Colby’s fault but they both didn’t care about trying to make this an entertaining fight at all
Khamzat weighed in at 178 to fight Diaz. He is probably physically unable to make 170 in a healthy manner. He’s at 185 permanently.
Edwards performance made CC look like a fish out of water, he even breezed through the ground game.
Chimaev is a Middleweight
If mcgregor wants to fight at welterweight, imagine the press conference between colby and him
PEOPLE DON’T REALIZE HOW BIG LEON IS! LEON WAS EASILY 200 POUNDS IN THERE WHILE COLBY WAS CLOSER TO 175
Not boring at all. Leon out skilled him in every aspect of mma.
Colby was still shocking.
I thought that you're usually more clued up than this Brian , Khamzat is not a 170lb welterweight anymore he's a 185lb fighter. Dana and himself has made it clear he cannot cut the weight safe anymore which is why he has moved up to middleweight
That and because they were scared of throwing him in with Diaz because he's got a terrible gas tank
@@starwarsroo2448 what you on about mate? Khamzat missed weight when he was matched against Nate which is why they had to improvise and switch up the card putting Nate against Tony Ferguson and khamzat v Kevin Holland at a catch weight. That was Nate's last fight on his UFC contract and is now a free agent... not sure what you're getting at
@MurkalMan Khamzat even said he missed weight on purpose but he's not supposed to talk about it. 11lbs over is not missed weight dude
@@starwarsroo2448 haha so you're telling me that the UFC conspired with khamzat to miss weight on purpose to avoid fighting Nate?? Haha Nate fucking Diaz!!!.. Are you sure bro?..
@@starwarsroo2448nobody is scared of Nate Diaz dude. Nate just got his face boxed off by a CZcamsr.
It wasn't that boring - if you appreciate unbelievably clean striking and range control it's worth a watch.
Fantastic Breakdown!
Pretty much every champ that's had a long run in the UFC has fought like Leon unless forced to otherwise. It's the smartest way to keep getting that cheque
Felt the same 💯💯 good podcast
I totally agree with you!
The Tom Aspinall episode was excellent bro. 👌
personally i don’t really see chimaev going back to welterweight to fight edwards. the prime fight for edwards right now looks to be rakhmonov. i’d love to see that, and it would be a serious challenge for leon.
Could we get a vid on Paddy TG?
I don't think Colby should retire I think he should now have to fight someone hard like Rokminoff(def butchered that) and then depending on that he should retire but one horrible performance shouldn't mean a retirement
I get that people say Leon didn't push the finish, but like we've seen vs Usman 2 and Diaz, you can be winning and one mistake can cost you a loss or on the verge of being finished
Challenging Wonderboy is the kind of fight Colby needs to go for. But doing it immediately after loosing like he did makes it look too obvious and desperate. He needs to take winnable fights so he doesn’t end up like Connor or Tony Ferguson.
Khamzat can barely make 170 and isn’t deserving of a title shot at all.
Hype train and being pushed to being the champ
the problem with leon is he knows he is so good that wen the opponent doesnt give them challenge or push them he doesnt try his best performances usman 2 usman is a machine
What's the point in him pushing himself to risk injury or a lucky shot . He knows he's good so just stick to the fundamentals and what can go wrong ? Attack him , different man , I think , I think he can go to the trenches ....easily !!!!
@@STSauto I never said he had to push himself 🤣🤣🤣
@@prentrixno , that's my take , why make a fight exciting for the sake of it !! I dunno mate , I just agree with you and couldn't stop writing 😂😂😂😂✌️
@STSauto XD I wasn't disagreeing lol but I think he shouldn't be so relaxed like that because as we saw with usman Edwards 2 Leon landed a gd head kick and slept him because usman got relaxed
would be great to get leon on the podcast next bri
“Plain and simple bottle job”, couldn’t of worded it better
Colby said he was going to show us a new Colby I would have rather just had the old colby. I definitely think the time out of the cage got to him
Colby got exposed from excellent distance management and putting Colby on the back foot. However, it was frustrating that despite Leon being up three rounds or four and clearly steps ahead in the striking and grappling that he didn’t step on the gas and finish this clown! He lost a mega opportunity like he did against Diaz to become a massive star ⭐️. Doing so means he gets a rematch when he does eventually lose rather than the UFC and fans moving on! I want the Shavkat fight so bad now!
Leon did exceptional, he almost submitted colby covington and made him stoop to a new low.
I don't know if it's decline or ring rust, almost 2 years out of the ring. I think Wonderboy is a good fight for both and we will see if Colby can get back to somewhat form.
I wouldn’t say it was boring. I think Leon’s speed made colby not want to come forward like usual. Watching Leon execute technique like that was class to watch. It’s not on Leon to make a statement. He’s the champ
Chen Chen needs to figure out his weight class before we talk about him fighting for a title.
Leon has gone up in many peoples' awareness and estimation. He can only be himself and has proven to be a great human being. I think his candle will burn longer, if less bright. A true champion.
Not trying to call you a casual but to the untrained eye it's hard to appreciate how Leon's feints and movements can freeze someone, think he deserves more credit for how he shut Colby down
Colby retiring would be craziness. There's plenty of good fights left. Tony should retire, tho
For Leon to have become a star tonight he just needed to stay on feet, mock Colby briefly nest end of fight and in post fight call Colby a bum and declare he has ended his career by showing Colby doesn't belong in there with him. Unfortunately, Leon is a technician who can not speak on the mic outside of saying 100%
I thought Leon fought a tactically brilliant fight. took Colby bit by bit.
I fell asleep before the fight because I was sick, and I’m glad lol 😂 wouldn’t have been worth forcing my self awake for that. Also anyone know when the podcast with Aspinal will release in EST time? I’m in America.
It’s out now.
“Never gonna see a barnstormer”
What was head kicking usman into next week not exciting to you??
Honestly they both let the fans down it was a lackluster fight period for a fight that should have been a barn burner. I want to see Colby get a few wins than a rematch
Great content thanks! Though I disagree that Leon isn't a star.
It's about your perspective, he became a huge star when he beat Usman for the title and had that amazing speech.
Agree with alot of the stuff you said tbf. Would love to see Edwards v Chimaev, just don't think Chimaev can go 5 rounds after seeing him against Usman.
Man true Geordie called it
I said the exact same thing watching it last night I absolutely agree boring look like they're aspiring
What we want in a fight is never what happens in a fight. We're not in there.
Colby looked a LOT tougher when there was security around to protect him. Big difference. He also looked soft around the midriff, which I've never seen on him b4.
Everything you said made sense. Spot on. But you have to give the shot to Belal at this point. I know, I know.. it won't break attendance records for sure. But you've got to give the guy his shot at some point.
It will break attendance records, but for the smallest.
Maybe Leon is just this good to make Colby look that bad, I can’t wait for you to release a video on his usman headkick was legendary
I agree with your take on Leons aggression. I thought it was a good fight and a dominant win for Leon. It was embarrassing for Colby.
I also think Shavkat would be the perfect fight for Leon. He always tries to finish his opponent (and successfully achieved it every time). Khamzat is at middleweight.
It's very easy to criticise and speak about what fighters should have done when most of us have never stepped into the cage and performed at that high level. Colby didn't bring it and it is as simple as that. He was dominated for 4 rounds. Leon is not a boring fighter, it takes two to tango. His last fight with Usman was exciting and that's because both fighters brought 100% of their best. People have said the same thing with Izzy and thought he was boring when 99.9% of us will never know what it's like to be those guys fighting at that level. Not every fighter is going to bring Michael Chandler or Justin Gaethje's level of intensity into fights so let's appreciate the sport for what it is and the diverse of fighters that are in the UFC.
exactly leon just a cold quiet assasin
Coby in round 5 knowing he was down 4 rounds didn’t even try to win he just threw useless ground and pound in order to try and fake a moral victory. We saw how real champions act in that situation when Leon Edward’s pulled off a head kick in the last minute to win the belt. Colby instead spent the whole fight avoiding a “when trash talk goes wrong” highlight reel KO
Colby never deserved the title shot in the first place, the man was given a shot cuz he brawled out with usman and still lost so why was he even in the main event
Bro this was a tactical fight high IQ fight from both. colby could of been more "killer minded" but respect to both fighters. Not all fights are gonna go gunz blazing even with all the trash talk. Yall are too spolied tbh as ufc fans
Leon Adesanya vs Colby Romero
so many people have said colby is supposed to be a really nice guy outside of the media because he isn't in character i think he really regrets going too far and scared of getting caught and knocked out because when he got in the cage and they stood in the centre colby genuinally looked scared imo
No more title fights for Colby. He wasn't himself anymore.
5:06 🤣🤣
🎯..@ 2:20-30 ...thats is a dangerous man....a man who controls his emotions and has self discipline....oooooo eeeee...i would dare say thats "RIGHTEOUS "
I didn't see Colby looking scared or anything but I did see his body looking different and dare I say worse. He looked heavy and slow. I don't think he had a great camp either but even if he did his age ain't doing him any favors. He's not gonna matter in the division anymore. 1 or 2 more fights and he's out.
I don’t think it was boring.
Leon was obviously expecting an aggressive Covington and I’m sure he was training for that, had sparring partners simulate an aggressive Colby.
So that’s got to throw him off. Leon was a great at doing what he needed to do. Precision strikes, mixing it up.
After colbys vile comment the pressure is on Leon just as much after, he would be thinking “imagine if I lost to this guy on top of saying that that about my dad.” It would drive you absolutely crazy so I think Leon picked being measured and getting the win first instead of going for a massive statement which involves massive risks
It's weird to be someone who covers the sport seriously, and has spoken a lot about Fury not doing what's right for boxing etc. but then think putting on a dominant technical display like Leon did was a mistake?
He fought the hardest possible opponent (at least on paper) and never looked troubled by him.
His job is to win, the UFC's job is to put him in entertaining fights.
Couldn't agree more with his take on Leon.
The Shavkat fight needs to be next, but i guess you need to shoehorn Belal in first though.
Id like to know what qualified him to talk about fighting? All I've ever seen him do is mince about at you tube boxing events
I agree with it not being the best fight, but I do think Leon did try to finish the fight calculated risks, champions don’t want to lose
Those unchecked leg kicks in the first couple rounds I feel like dictated the rest of the fight.
Looks like u got that belt outta a kinder egg
Colby only appeals to casuals. That schtick is fuckin horrible. So stoked he got embarrassed
People ignore how much of a fighters performance is based on their opponent.
Colby could tell that he couldn't strike with Leon the same way he struck with Kamaru, and when the takedowns failed he had nothing left.
