If your criteria is based on a particular profit margin rather than a specific level of quality then they will design and build according to that, even if the resulting product is godawful crap. More money gets spent on marketing who make an upbeat video that avoids mentioning specs and away we go. If it's a Chinese company they will also likely improve the materials and design then resell the thing with their own branding. Then some politician will complain about Chinese IP theft. It's the circle of design.
