  • The movie Music has had a lot of controversy surrounding it from the moment Sia released the teaser trailer back in November of 2020. The autistic community spoke out and Sia completely disregarded the concerns of the community that she was supposed to be supporting.
    In this video, I filmed myself watching the movie for the first time and my reaction. As an autistic woman, I understand the concerns that this movie raised but I needed to see it for myself before coming to any conclusions. Y'all... it was bad. The movie itself was filmed well, the music was good, the storyline wasn't terrible but the overall feel of the movie was pure ablism. I really hoped that this movie wasn't going to be as bad as everyone said but it was.

    I'd feel really bad if someone "crushed me with their love", I don't even like being touched by my mum, only sometimes, definitely not during stress

    She really should have gone to a wider range of organisations for advice. It feels like cutting corners, and that could well end up affecting people's perception in a harmful way.
    Good that some things were considered and included though, such as the neighbour's brother that was mentioned.

    I have autism, and even I don't know how to accurately portray autism. It's just a difficult subject that Hollywood doesn't fully understand. But you could give em the benefit of the doubt and say that even now, there is still so little science itself knows about autism.

    I respect this review a lot more than most people who don’t know anything and follow the whole “hate train” against her. You guys at least seem to understand the love that she tried to put into it and just messed up. It’s good to know that sia now said she learned from her mistake and is open to any education!

    People expected a pop music star who lives and is coddled in L.A. to make a movie with actual depth and substance? Has anyone heard her music? Hello.

    I have high functioning autism and I tend to have verbal and physical stims. Maddie Zeigler did a great job playing Music, a girl with severe, non verbal autism. I'm a huge fan hers and Sia who also has autism. I will melt down when things go wrong.

    I’m doing a university assignment on this and I’m not gonna deny I couldn’t get through half the film in one sitting. Not only is the portrayal of autism laughable the actual story is just really really boring I didn’t like any of the characters other than possibly George and Milly. The first 15 minutes were although misguided and obviously had not had enough research go into it. Was probably the best part of the film I felt that the relationships were ok between the characters but after that I was tbh just really really bored and confused as to how this film was allowed to be sold

    I started to get interested in autism and started to feel sympathy for autistic people. But after experiencing all that hatred from parts of the autistic community, I started not caring again. You guys don't seem like nice people.

      Some can come across as rude or mean but they don't mean to be. It's just realy hard to comunicate or know what is apropriate verbal or non verbal comunication for people on the spectrum. For some this is very mild but with others it can be very severe. It's also that a big portion is angry at how the comunity is portrayed in shows and movies and that deffinetly can come across as angry:).
      We can be very nice and friendly it's just hard for us to comunicate because our brains work differant:).

    • @willowisp9150
      @willowisp9150 Před 3 lety +27

      Some of us don't care that much about appearing nice to get sympathy. A human does not owe anyone niceness to get sympathycoins we can trade for acceptance, so it doesn't matter.

    • @lugaruna
      @lugaruna Před 3 lety +5

      Also very true. I just always want to explain why things can go wrong in a comunitative way and be nice to people:). That is my problem and im trying to work on itXD. The not being a people pleaser all the time:p.

      They think being autistic is a personality trait. Look at all of their channel names and their videos 💀

    • @NoelleMar
      @NoelleMar Před 3 lety +18

      If you genuinely can lump all autistic people together as “you people” who you either feel absolutely nothing for (??) or maybe care about if they “all” behave a certain way, that’s a you problem and has nothing to do with autistic people.
