  • In this video I am taking a break from working on the Cobra and MR2 to provide updates and give my 4 year review on my 2020 Hydro Blue Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. My 4 year lease is up and I need to decide if I am going to buy it or turn it in. I give my 4 year review and walk through the current problems and concerns, and provide my decision and what I plan to do with the truck. I give updates on prior issues such as the leaking back glass rear window as well and associated vacuum hose fix as well as my rock hard rock slide corrosion issues. Applies to JL wrangler as well.

I just bought out my lease a week ago on my 21 Jeep Gladiator. I have not had any issues so far. I daily drive my Gladiator and have over 45,000 miles. It’s been a great truck!

While not a gladiator, but a 2020 JLUR, I’d have to say my Jeep has treated me well. Although it’s been heavily modified and wheeled, I’ve had no issues.

I wish I could figure out how to have a nice vehicle like that and only put under 15k in 4 years on it. I’ll get there one day. Nice truck!

Thanks, I appreciate it! Big part is I work from home full time so rarely leave house M-F. Most miles are from road trips.

Sad, but sure that is the case. Hoping Berliner may hold up better. We’ll see.

Do you recommend buying a 2021 Rubicon Unlimited JL with 40k miles on it? Thanks

Depends on what you are looking for. Jeeps are not perfect, they have their quirks. If you want something that will just go and go, get a 4 runner or older FJ cruiser. The jeep has some issues/quirks that I have brought up in my 3 and 4 year reviews. I will say that in my eyes nothing else compares to the jeep experience, so I am willing to live with the quirks. The wrangler will keep you out of the leaking back glass and is better for wheeling with the shorter wheelbase. Drive a few, see if they call your name, then go from there. Only you will know for sure what is best for you.

@@jrmotorsports5532 Thanks for the insights! I appreciate your honesty about the quirks and the unique Jeep vibe. What kind of issues have you run into specifically? I'll definitely take a few test drives to see what feels right. Your advice has been super helpful!

@@OldschoolFR the most worrying ones have been corrosion/paint bubbles due to factory issues with painting aluminum. It’s not rust, but the paint bubbles. Engine valvetrain issues have hit some as miles go up, listen for clattering valvetrain. Gladiators with hard tops have water leaks with the rear window frame. Windshields are very common get rock impacts. Oil coolers on top of engine can crack over time as they are plastic and cause leaks. Most other stuff is just little annoyances that happen here or there. If you do some forum searching you may find more. I bought mine out as I love the truck and nothing else compares in the market. Not the most comfortable and it’s noisy with the soft top, but it is so much fun and very capable off-road. Good luck!
