    This "New Tube" tech is the most interesting thing about these amps. Vox should do a technical demonstration by building a "New Tube" equipped AC30 and comparing it to a "real" AC30. If the difference is miniscule or non existent then we have a game changer in amplifier technology on our hands. If not it's just some gimmicky marketing BS.

    • @JacobPadlock
      @JacobPadlock Před 7 lety +24

      and even if it doesn't quite compare, it's still not quite a gimmicky technology because it allows them to put actual tubes in way way way smaller amps

    • @GitShiddy
      @GitShiddy Před 7 lety +3

      True, it would also be lighter to haul around than the current form. But might also improve the responsiveness/tone of the high end modelling amps like Fractal & Kemper. That is assuming the "New Tube" tech isn't just a marketing gimmick and is an actual technological leap.

    • @GitShiddy
      @GitShiddy Před 7 lety +16

      I mean we've had the same tube technology in amps for nearly 100 years. If these "New Tubes" are a technological leap for the tube/valve it would behoove the music industry for Vox to build an AC30 using "New Tubes" to prove it's not just a fancy marketing tool and is actual the future.

    • @vvmakovv2689
      @vvmakovv2689 Před 7 lety +14

      As a physics student who knows a decent amount about the evolution of technology I really do believe that this is the future of guitar amps... Amp Modeling is limitless yes... And helpful for touring. However I believe that one technology wont overpower the other, it will just be a matter of choice like it is now... Tube, or modeling. Just with much more advanced technology of course. I personally would get both a modeling and a nutube based amp. They both have there uses. Same thing goes for pedals. There will always be analog and digital.

    Bought the AC version, party because I have a 4ohm 2×12 cab. I can honestly say, best non full tube amp I have ever heard. Wicked loud at half volume on 50 watt mode through 4 ohm cab. Takes pedals brilliantly-but the grit on board is quite nice. This is not a cheap toy. It's not a 2x12 all tube combo amp, but it is damned close.

    I just got one this week (clean version) i can't say how amazed i am with it. Got the clean as prefer to have the choice of running my own choice of drive pedals, but so far i've just been so impressed with the clean tone and the combination of the basic treble, bass and my guitars pickups, tone and volume that i haven't got a pedal nr it yet. plugged into a Backstar artisan 212 with celestion vintage 30 loudspeakers - just ****ing amazing! The tone out of this thing is surreal - treble rolled right back and bit of extra bass and just got that lovely warm boutique kinda sound (yeah i know its not boutique but this is delivering the sound i never expected to achieve on my budget!).

    Hi there, excellent review as usual. Here's a suggestion : when you demo "small amps", a valuable info would be to have some kind of measurement of the dbs in the room, just to figure out for us whether you are playing loud, quiet, etc. ? and, more accurately, how loud is the clean headroom for an amp... etc. just to know whether you can actually gig with it or ... ?

    I'm an electrical engineer (BSEE & MSEE) - basically, the "Nutube" is a common fluorescent display found in clocks and stereos, some cars, and many other places. Yes, it's a real tube - with a much lower plate voltage & designed to be a display. All they did was adapt all the existing machinery that has existed for decades to make this compact tube for audio. Compared to the 12AX7 the transconductance is MUCH lower, the plate voltage (and current) is MUCH lower, the power dissipation is MUCH lower, the gain factor is MUCH lower. Not saying this is necessarily bad for guitar distortion - but as a basic amplifying device on its own - it is deficient. Still though - a cool idea. I'll be buying one as a backup amp.

    I'm very excited about the Nutube technology, and I'm planning to get one of the NBX150H heads that Vox demoed at NAMM 2017, as I've had too many tube amps fail on me to want to keep buying them/replacing tubes. With the exception of Kemper, there's not a solid-state amp which IMO can hold a candle to a proper tube amp, and if the Nutubes give you the tube sound with the robustness of SS amps, I'm sold (and without the pricetag of the Kemper).

    These are great little amps. Shame about the price. If they were a bit cheaper I would buy a clean and a dirty and a switch pedal.
    Only other thing is would have been nice to have an effect loop like the Micro Dark.
    Great video chaps 😊

    I totally can see why the clean is so popular. It's a solid sound platform for pedals.

    Mini amps are going to be glorious and expand music in the next 5 years. Reason why vox is my fav amp makers. Over fender or marshall.

    I checked out both the MV50 and AC10 at Cranbourne Music a couple of days ago. I know the AC10 is more just over twice the price but it is 10 times the amp. I bought the AC10 and gigged with it last night. It’s awesome in a small venue with my 4 piece band consisting of 2 vocals, drums, bass and keys.

    Finally an IC that sounds okay in place of a valve. Big tone for a ditty thing.
    Pretty henchworth pengford if you ask me. Although, pretty surprised this is not in the pedal format to be honest, it being so small it could've easily been a more on-the-floor product with clean/dirty switch.
