Today I´ll be talking about, if pilots ever get nervous whilst flying big airliners. There are a few things you can do to calm your nerves and act responsively in a stressful situation.
Preparation is key to face a stressful situation. Good training in the simulator and fundamental training during flight school can reduce the chances of becoming a nervous pilot.
Have fun watching the video, and it´ll be great if you could comment below how you face your fears and doubts about a upcoming stressful situation. Be nice to read how you prepare yourself !

Well, on cruising altitude not that much than on lower ones. Else a single engine failure is a very stressful situation as well, since you have to run a pretty long checklist, get down the weight or do a heavy landing in some situations. But a both engine failure is not that common as you might know. On early stages on flight, there are not much you can do against it. Returning to the field is not possible with a commercial airliner - also known as impossible turn. With smaller aircrafts possible but not likely to happen...

@@Username-ww2cd I know that this is an old comment but you do hear terrain terrain pull up when the plane doesn't recognize that you're landing, and in some cases pilots hear that right before crashing so yes everyone will get nervous when they hear terrain terrain pull up.
There are 2 scenarios, either there is a malfunction in the systems which isn't as worrying because pilots are always handflying when landing.
The other scenario is when the airplane is going to crash in the ground, and of course this one will be worrying xD

Awesome video Captain Joe I do love watching them. There are stressful times in most jobs but that's where training kicks in as well.
For myself I am pretty much never nervous on a plane or I won't show it, I fell the crew are well trained and I know the procedures in the event of a crash or rough landing. But also at cruising altitude if the worst happened there really isn't anything you can do so why worry.
When me and my wife got married she had never been on a plane, we were in the seats next to the emergency escape and this being her first flight she wanted the window seat til I informed her the passenger by that door has a job to do if something happens, ya we switched but I also found how much I was calming her and those around me as there are strange noises when flying for the first time, but telling her what they were calmed her and the people around me which I didn't realise at first.
I really enjoy ones where you see how pilots work in the cockpit and just how calm they are, when I was young I was able to go into the cockpit and watch, I think seeing how calm they were with buzzers going off and the odd warning lights popping on. They still just sat there and pushed buttons and stuff like it was normal made me feel very safe with them. I guess that carried over to adulthood.

The fact that you stress on what would be the outcome if i didnt preapare my self my soul my mind my body reacts to it that i would be a failure, failing is my outcome. I often watch your videos just subscribed from this day just sharing I am an inspired pilot wanna be. it became my dream i cant do anything else i know if im in the track of being a pilot i know my self will react to it doing the best the better that i can be, however if i take up engineering i know that i cant handle it because i dont like it, but if pilot math is essential also i know that i will and that i will strive hard for it to be prepared.. sorry just wanted to share thats just how i feel thank you. im still watching your vidsss

My former career required constant vigilance and situational awareness and serous injuries or death were very real ramifications for not being PREPARED.
You can’t drive yourself to a nervous breakdown trying to outthink every possible situation and outcome, that’s what insane people do.
    You CAN, master your craft.
So when that situation occurs, you know every single thing you can about the (in this case, aircraft) or at a minimum, how to get that information and apply it.

Pensive Ruin I suggest you visit your local flight school and arrange an orientation flight wherein an instructor will accompany you during the flight and maybe let you handle the controls while in the air to let you get a feel on what's it like to fly an airplane. If you think learning about planes is awesome, actually flying one takes the awesomeness to a whole new level. Who knows? The experience might inspire you to take lesson to earn a license that could lead to an aviation career or just for the sheer joy of being able to fly.

Thank you, Captain. As you said, pilots get nervous as all normal people.
Regarding to the weather, sometimes, when you arrive at the reported weather, it maybe have changed (for worse or better), but again, as you mentioned, preparation & (and for obvious not mentioned) experience (of the area´s orographic conditions, weather at any special season), reduces significantly the nervousness, and gives entrance to the actual corrections.

What you're giving examples of seems similar to checklists.Checklist can (to some extent) be used as a psychological umbrella term incorporating any plan you've made up in advance. In "the green" this is one coping mechanism we teach. it:
    Breaks tunnel vision
Allows you to evaluate and make desitions with high accuracy even during exceptional stress.
    I like this video.

My question is: Why do all airlines go around the globe instead of over the North Pole when we are almost in perfect line with each other?
