I only remember the worst catastrophes while on a plane when turbulence hits fear goes over me instantly.
My first flight was aged 12 in a Cessna 172. My father was piloting, newly qualified, no instrument training. He decided to go off course. We flew into a weather front. Thick black cloud, zero visibility, winds, rain, thunder & lightening. Somehow we landed safely. ATC gave him a huge roasting, heaven knows how he kept his licence. My second flight was at age 16, from the UK to Detroit. Less than 1 hour into the flight we had an engine fire. We returned to Manchester Airport, landed safely & boarded a different aircraft. I was flying alone. I'm 61 years old now. Yes I've flown many times over those years & still I'm utterly terrified, can't think why!!!! 😳
Planes and air travel is beautiful, but I am still scared to death of flying and I think always will be! I especially hate when it’s a loved one flying alone.. I worry too much about them.
You did an excellent job explaining the process of flying. Simple and to the point. Great job and I wish you much success on your channel.
Great information man. Thank you. I have a flight in two weeks and this helped.
This video helped me soooo much! Thank you so much for doing this
Somehow I stumbled on this video. Booked a flight for september since years and it already has me stressed out. Thinking about not going but that means I have to dissapoint others. Now watching video’s to reassure me but the fear is not rational. Sure flying is the safest form of transportation, but what does that say about today or tommorow. Incidents are rare but they happen. I find it arrogant to think it cant/wont happen to me. Im so jealous of people who dont even think 1 second about it when flying or even love to fly.
I know exactly what you mean! But by your logic you should be more scared about going by car right? By car, you’re in greater danger! So it would be arrogant to think a car crash won’t happen to you!
@@DreamOfFlying right, but as soon as you CONTROL for factors (such as not driving drunk or recklessly). your odds of dying in a car are much lower. This need to be in control of our vehicles is not inconsequential. In a plane you have no control over piloting, maintenance, or reckless scheduling.
@@slorgdulschmodus Actually, you as a car driver, are more likely to make a mistake then any actual airline pilot. Airline pilot train several year. A driving license takes a few month at most! And pilots fly for a large portion of their shift, whilst the average driver only drives two ways per day.
@@DreamOfFlyinghey what should I do because I am scared of flying
@@user-zx6xg2wr6q Just commit to it. When you feel like you're afraid, it's not actually fear. What some call fear, has the same symptoms as excitement. Both raise your heartrate. Whenever you feel like you're afraid, youre just super excited to see what'll happen. And you always know, that whateverhappens, you'll be fine, because after all, you notice that whatever scared you, seems to have dissappeard, and you don't know what had kept you from doing it.
Thanks as a fellow AV geek I love Aviation! This has made me so happy.
even if you say flying is 100% safe people are still scared because it is not natural to be 30,000 feet off the ground, this is just for the sake of argument
I say the same thing about my needle phobia lol.
I’ve still had a few close calls. I did touch and goes at a non-towered airport and turned crosswind when a Skylane was incoming on his downwind. I almost turned in front of him. I swear, I didn’t see him. Also, on another occasion, the wiring to the avionics master switch must have come loose or something, because the two radios, the transponder, and the GPS screen all shut off. That was pretty wild too.
here my take on why people are scared of flying , the nature of flying is scary but we make it safe, here 1 example what if your airplane breaks down you can not pull over like driving a car, weather, collision, out of gas, takes long to land , here we go
I am not really scared, but these make me feel even more comfy while in a plane, and even more if it comes from a pilot or flight attendant
I’m glad I could do my part in making flying more enjoyable for you! Thanks for watching.
😢
I would like to know your opinion on the expose in early 2023 of pilot training being reduced.
here another one, you dont need a perfect car to be on the road but u need a perfect airplane to be on the air like your tires, wings, mechanical, gas etc....
I saw another CZcams video yesterday with a seasoned pilot saying it was 1 in 11 million the chances of dying in a plane crash. Which is it??
He also said it was 1 in 5,000 chance of dying in a car accident. 🤷🏽♂️
The number of plane crashes has decreased over time so the average will be different depending on what time period you include in your calculation. I keep it really simple: it’s much easier to get a car license than a commercial pilot license so there are lots of dumbasses on the road but the people flying your plane have to be smart.
With car accidents it depends where you are -I travel to Türkiye a lot and the drivers are maniacs! In the UK they’re a bit less wild.
Hi Luke, your video was very I formative and has gone through some questions that I had in my head. But what would be your response to the latest tragic incident with the plane that goy caught in extreme turbulence and people died on board? I have a flight planned this summer and am getting super nervous because will be flying over mountains! Thanks
Same😢
im scared of malfunction, thats all
you could take me inverted in a 172, full flaps, and I would STILL feel safer than I do riding a motorcycle on the freeways XD
Haha for sure!
No thanks! I'll pass
Always been a nervous flyer. I haven’t been on a plane since 2009. Trying to over come my anxiety.
2:39 1/9821???? I seriously doubt it
I have a flight on the 23rd and people say I sound crazy… but ever since I became I mom I’m scared to do ANYTHING that’s out of my norm 😭 including flying ! Your video helped me a bit but I don’t think there’s enough videos and articles that can make me completely okay with my upcoming flight. Thank you❤
and I dont blame u lol. you'll be fine though. safe travels
@@MoneyOverFame thank you ! Be praying for me on that day 😂😂🫶🏾
How was it lol
Me too... i used to flown alot back then...but since i got married and im so scared to go travelling with a plane...damn im stuck
Flying is good, it makes you think of god.
I get scared of the take off I no it’s sounds silly but I over think things & think it’s going to fall back down after take off 🤷♀️
It’s completely fine to feel like that, Ann! Often when flying on an airliner (which has a long body) it almost feels like the plane is pitched straight up. I can assure you, it’s not! I hope you enjoy your next flight!
Omg me too! I hate it when I start thinking this.. 😱
Well, 1 in 9821 sounds pretty good odds to me. Where does he get that number from?
Turbulence doesn’t scare me. The engines failing does
I read that one engine can fly a plane to safety. That planes are made with back up systems. if one fails, the other will work just fine.
So, I am flying here in under 2 months, I only flew once in my life... I went deaf in my right ear and they were forced to make an emergancy landing, I was miss diagnosed at the ear tube collapsing, that ear won't pop now, so now that we found the problem this year, not airplane related I am going on my first over seas trip... before thst I am flying 2hr test flight from Kansas to Atlanta, my head filled up with pressure and wouldn't release first tine around... this time around, I am doing the following...
1. Ear tube in right ear
2. Xanax to not disturb passengers
3. Earplanes (recommended by doctor) to reduce pressure entering my ear during flight...
4. Ear popper machine (off Amazon)
5. Breath right strips (help airflow)
6. Test flight (to atlanta)
-----------
It isn't being in the plane I am scared of, it is the pain I felt first time around when I went deaf, so I am getting over that fear by a test flight before my 28hr trip... thanks for the information though!!
Wow. Kudos to you for having the courage to get back in the air. Wishing you nothing but the best and a safe, comfortable test flight!
Will I be safe I fly October Friday the 13th to Chicago I’ve flown so many times but it’s been years so idk and the date just scares I’m convinced myself at points I will die
Are u alive?
i thought itd be 1 in Millions. so confused. where you got that from! ?
I was once on a small commuter flight from Upper Michigan to Minneapolis during the worst rainstorm I've ever seen. The plane was all over the sky and there was thunder and lightning. Almost everyone on the plane threw up including me... right on the man next to me. It was so awful. The plane was grounded in Minneapolis so they could clean it up. I had to get on another flight to Los Angeles. I never want to experience anything like that again. No one on the aircraft was cool and calm, including the crew.
these events are never included in airline safety statistics. Flights like these happen all the time but are not reported as anything but a relaxing, joyful trip. Make it there at all costs. Can't disrupt the schedule. Dont fly around it; go right through it - the airframe can handle it. $$$
All I saw was 1 in 9000+ mate that is enough for me but to get on that plane sorry but iv been told it’s 1 in like a billion so then heating that has scared me more 😢 2:57
Oh crap. Now I'm scared, I'm going to bed
Its more like 1 in 11 million if we're talking about flying commercial airlines. The odds increase even more if we're talking about North American carriers.
I assume you mean the odds decrease even more, correct?
I'm
scared😰
I am going to fly this Saturday, but I am TERRIFIED of heights. like really bad.
Have fun! It’ll be great
The key is to load up in the airport bar before you get on the plane! 🍻
"Safe" until it's NOT. Then you're likely dead unlike a car crash which is usually survivable
I also think watching films don’t help 😮
What?!!! Wait wait wait… the chances of dying in an air rash are 1 in 9,800?? I thought it was like 1 in 10 million and I was nervous..
This person must be calculating it based on ALL the crashes that have occurred in the history of aviation. Plane crashes peaked in the 1970s and they’ve been particularly rare since the 2000s.
A plane crashed in Leeds the other day skidded of the runway everyone was fine though. Some are worse than others.
but what are the chances of dying PER HOUR onboard? If I'm 100 times more likely to die in a car crash in my life, but I spend 1000 times more hours in my car, then driving in my car is clearly safer than flying on a plane.
I keep it simple: roads are full of idiots; cockpits are full of people who had to be smart enough to get a commercial pilot license.
The odds of dying in your lifetime in a major commercial flight are likely even way lower than 1 in 10,000.
Airplanes are the safest mode of transportation. It has 1 out of 170 probability of crashing.
My brains during flight: “you are that 1”
pretty much this
unless it’s Pegasus airlines
I have a flight in an hour haha
Oh thats really cool that you are saying American pilots are the best. First, I dont think its true at all. If so, you just scared non american flyers, thank. Second, you know Sully story? Great pillot, but birds destroyed the engines and plane went down. So its not only about pilots. Also some pilots sleep or want to commit a suicide, for example that guy with German Wings and Air Malaysia. And I dont know why people still compare turbulence to bumby road on the bus. Its dumb and totally different. There is another dimension in a plane and you cant control anything, unlike on bus, which has nowhere to fall and can stop any minute and you just get out.
Well the chance of dying in a car is probably higher because there’s more cars in the world and they have been around for longer then a plane so that doesn’t make me feel much better 😅
that's not the case, even when adjusted for number of vehicles and planes, cars are still SIGNIFICANTLY less safe. they do this data accounting for those sorts of things so the statistics are proportionate to the amount of vehicles/planes in the world. i hope this helps ease your mind a bit!
It’s because idiots can get a car license but not a commercial pilot license. ;)
The fact that you have to make videos named: "Scared of Flying? This Is Why You Shouldn't Be" says a lot... 🤣
what does it say?
Allah not created to fly but trusting his power to hold airplanes in the air is must! You will never escape dying even on your bed if time is up! Trust living fully without fear! I’m one of those who has fear flying but accepted to test it and asked myself the last worst scenario, to die! Then it’s my time. Please you guys accept the process and live happily 😊
Thank you ❤
Jesus is the only God my friend. He’s the only one who can save u. Turn to Jesus and be saved ❤
Airplanes fly regardless of the supposed beliefs of “Allah” or “Jesus” or any other imaginary friends in the sky.
Pilot? This lil dude is like 14 years old😂
Hi Marcus, I’m 17 and have my private pilot license. Thanks for the comment.
lol he does look young though... like 13/14. But that's good, he's going to look young for his age when he gets older.
Was thinking the same thing, lol of course kids that young don't care 😂
