34:26 I'm reminded of a story, but I can't remember where I heard it from. A man passed away, and his daughter kept getting phone calls about one of his accounts with a company. The daughter tried explaining to the company that her father was deceased, and his account should be closed. But the company insisted that they needed permission from the deceased father to close the account. She kept getting calls, and she was told each time that they can't close the account without speaking to her father. Even though she'd made it very clear he was dead.
So she got fed up, and walked into one of their offices, requesting to close the account. When she was again told they need her father's permission...she reached into her bag, and pulled out and urn and a ouiga board. She made a big dramatic scene, asking her father's spirit to send a sign from the afterlife that he consented to close the account. She kept it up until the manager came over to intervene, because she was drawing attention from other customers. In the end, the manager admitted defeat and agreed to close the account for her.

About the "peculiar" food servings, the nutritional facts related to them, the terms and conditions to avoid suing from poisoned customers and the juice "not juice": as a veterinarian who studied European food safety and regulations, I can tell you that those are all typical FDA (USA) bs. The FDA approach is basically "you company can do whatever you want, if someone sues you then deal with it how you like".
In the EU on the other hand the approach is "you food company are legally responsible for guaranteeing the safety of what you produce, together with the farmers and the supermarkets (and all the rest of the chain involved), until it reaches the table of the customer; if something happens to them, you are in deep shit". This to explain that those things aren´t possible to write on a product in the EU because they would be at least immediately denounced by food inspectors (vets usually) as scams, not to mention that the responsibility for food poisoning by contamination due to production failures is considered a penal crime, meaning you´re going to prison for it, because it´s considered endangerment of public safety. That´s basically the same charge as if you would put a building purposely on fire.
So yeah, the Americans love to complain about there being "too many rules in Europe" but the truth is, that those rules are keeping us safer and healthier.

Australians and I think people in some other countries were able to force refunds if they pushed the point due to our laws on refunds but Americans were just screwed. So, I guess it's totally expected that if some company claims the removal of a sticker voids warranty they could probably get away with it over there. HP is such a nightmare. I once bought a(n) HP laptop. It died within 24 hours. Attempts to boot it resulted in a black screen with KERNAL PANIC. I attempted to use the manufacturer's warranty and they told me to mail it in for inspection.
They returned it, declining to repair or replace it, saying it had "water damage". They sent extremely microscopic images of TINY TINY SPECS of.... Something. Like, we're talking specs the size of the point of a pin/needle. The laptop they sent back had a SCRAP sticker on it. The inside of the monitor had LITERAL WATER SPLOTCHES and the internals of the laptop were totally missing.
They literally sent me back a damaged laptop shell and tried to pass it off as the laptop I sent in.
Learned a lot of lessons that day. Take pictures. Of EVERYTHING. Take them of the actual issue. Take detailed pictures of the item before being packaged, after being packaged, and as its being mailed.
But most of all.... DON'T BUY HP PRODUCTS!

I watched her explain, politely, why the they where doing was predatory, the guy on the on the phone asked if she was a lawyer (she's not), she finished the call buy saying "I'm ordering a cease and desist." Also none of the "void if seal is broken" is true here. Weirdly enough, a company's terms and conditions or EULA isn't above law. I laugh every time on Steam or Epic Games it says that, even though by law you can return any online purchase within 14 days, you can no longer do that if you've played a game for more than 2h (which on many modern games is the length of the forced tutorial).

Those “mirrors” remind me of this one thing I heard about. This woman went on “Shark Tank” to pitch this, initially. Everyone passed on it, then she went quiet. It’s a mirror for dressing rooms in shops that sell clothes. It works like a subtle funhouse mirror and makes you appear slimmer than you actually are so when you try on clothes they look better on you in the mirror than they might actually look in real life. So, you’re more likely to buy the things you’re trying on because you feel great about how you look in them. I’ve never seen anything where the creator has explicitly said that she’s been selling any of these mirrors but she hasn’t denied it, either. Because her item is aimed at businesses and not the public at large she could be selling these mirrors like hotcakes and there’s no way to know for sure which businesses are buying them. Know your body and if you do try clothes on at a store be aware that there could be one of these mirrors in there and if something looks noticeably better on you than you suspect it should either pass on it or have a mirror of your own at home, try the clothes on AGAIN and if it doesn’t look as good as it looked at the store, return it. NEVER remove any tags until you’re sure you’re keeping the item(s), save your receipt(s) and NEVER shop at a place that won’t let you return clothes within a certain time frame with a receipt (with the exception of undergarments and swimwear, for everyone’s health and safety). You’re welcome.

People would just put the stack of papers through the copy machine. You still had to pay for the copies, but you know, that was a few euros, not hundreds.
We still had to buy expensive books but we actually used those a lot. :) But even then, those were also available in the library and with a copy machine you can have your own chapter in a minute or two. :) They had one of those copy machines dedicated to books so you didn't have to press the spines flat. Made copying super fast. :D

Clip Studio Paint was one of the best drawing programs due to being a one-time purchase, as well of being an incredible drawing program. After around a decade, CSP will upgrade from version 1.0 to version 2.0. To upgrade from version 1.0 to 2.0 you need to purchase another "perpetual license", and version 1.0 won't be updated anymore (it will get bug fixes). However the shittiest thing is that to update version 2.0 (after you have bought the new perpetual license) you need to purchase a monthly "update pass". Admittedly I'm also disappointed, but unless you're looking to get all the feature updates as they are released, you're fine just sticking to 1.0 or 2.0. To be fair, if the textbook is going to be outdated and only useful for one class, it makes sense to only really have access to it for a small amount of time, but I better not be paying the same price as a physical textbook for it.

26:18 I can speak to the validity of this post. I have had to use Pearson products for years, and yes, it really is basically like spending $70 just so that you can do your homework. I remember the very first product I used, MyMath Lab (or MyLab Math depending on who you ask). It was an absolute abomination of a program and I will never forget the emotional damage that it caused me 😭 Also, just FYI I did the math, and it turns out that according to this rule you are permitted to print only two pages every 5 YEARS (1825 ÷ 365)! Seriously, why and HOW is this a thing?

5:23 This actually happened to my mom once.
She downloaded a free app (via/from Facebook of course) that would allow her to download wallpapers or something, but she didn’t see that even tho the app was free it has an automatic subscription to it upon downloading.
And this confused my father (who mostly keep tracks of the/their economy), and when he/they found out I was also present and being the only somewhat tech-‘wiz’ at the house I was the one to then call, I think it was Apple, to request the money back (and I think maybe also the cancellation of the subscription, tho I don’t remember), and thankfully we were able to get the money back, but both my dad and I were really eyeing my mom for quite awhile after that 😂.

Ok so the gift wrapping, I got something like that a few years back. I was only getting one gift, a new phone so my parents wanted it to take longer for me to open.
So first was a large wrapped cardboard box
In that was another wrapped box
And inside that was another wrapped box with a small screwdriver attached to it
In the box was a wooden box my dad had made. With about 10 screws I had to unscrew by hand. It took me the next 20 minutes to open it
Oh, and if I’d started unscrewing it from the wrong side (two sides of the box had a screwed on panel) I wouldn’t have gotten anywhere because the “wrong side” was also glued down.

7:30 Almost sounds like the train ticket system in Hungary. You can choose (depending on what train goes where) between standard train, where you buy a simple ticket (if there are too many people you won't have a seat), fast train, where you pay for the ticket and a fast train ticket (seat still not guaranteed if the train is overcrowded) and the Intercity, where you pay for a ticket, an IC ticket and seat ticket. On an IC you must buy a seat ticket. And what if you're late because of the unreliable train system? You have to buy another seat ticket for the next IC (which you already payed and is not your fault that your train was late) or pray to the MÁV (the Hungarian rail system basically) that there will be free seats and you won't have to stand on a train where you had payed for a seat.
I love our train system. It was the sixth time in the autumn semester when I finally got a seat and didn't have to stand for 2 hours because on that particular train I use they forgot to count with higher demand on weekends
