    Want to talk about A-hole design? I got one for you. My SO and I recently adopted a kitten. She was 6 weeks when we got her and she's 14 weeks now. We bought her a break away collar, in case she gets stuck on something. I finally went to use it today and noticed something very strange and Very frustrating. It wasn't actually a fully break away collar. The sliding 'buckle' that allowed you to resize the collar was attached to the break away latch. Meaning the latch could come undone but would still be attached to the buckle, giving maybe an extra 2 or 3 millimeters of room but keeping the kitten stuck in the collar. It's a freaking death trap if she caught it on something and she had no leverage to unstick herself. I was absolutely furious. Thankfully we had an extra collar for our adult cat that is actually break away and just adjusted it to it's tiniest setting. Our kitten is very active and has gotten herself stuck on things without the collar, I couldn't imagine putting that collar on her and finding her strangled the next day. Seriously appalling

      It's the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro. They are open back headphones designed for mixing audio. The newest model is the DT 990 Pro. They are truly amazing. All the models in this line have the telephone coil cord and sound so good. Not good for public spaces because they leak sound out the back (as they don't have backs). They do not have noise cancellation by design as open backs create deeper soundscapes and avoid building up pressure in the ears (which is the reason I got a set as I have thin eardrums and the pressure by closed back headphones gives me awful headaches). Sorry for the info dump, I just love these headphones. (Also I know this is 11 months old. I am binging his content)

So yeah. Europe had a big coca wine craze. Apparently lots of writers in the Victorian era drank it. And weeeell. We now know why they wrote so much and published without going through an editor.
      The cocain content in Coca-Cola went down when they had to take out the alcohol. I believe it was because the city the creator was based in went dry (made alcohol illegal). So the coca leaves didn’t distill lots of cocain in the drink without the alcohol and yeah.
      Fun fact Coca Cola still uses coca leaves in their recipe. It’s just that they extract the cocain part first and I think sell it to dentists to be used for local anesthetic.

    That first one about getting charged for lack of use is illegal in the US. You cannot charge for a lack of an action.
    We covered this in some business law class I took in college. Magazines and other companies were sending people their products in the mail without them signing up for it and then charging for the product. Well, they got sued and the law now agrees that it's illegal to charge for a lack of an action and anything you get with a charge like that, you don't have to pay.

    The "Delivery Fee is not a Tip" addition to Papa John's boxes happened when I worked with them. Drivers were not allowed to tell people that unless they asked and many people wouldn't tip because they assumed it went to driver. Delivery fee is just a way to increase price while "not raising prices" since most sales are delivery. In 2002, their delivery fee was $1.00 and driver got $0.50/delivery for gas/mileage. By 2012, delivery fee was $2.75 and stores I worked I got $0.75 a delivery. Now their delivery fee is $4.50. I don't know how much goes to the driver for gas/mileage. Corporate stores also change you to tipped-wages instead of basic minimum wage any time you're clocked out on delivery - and managers may clock you out on the delivery before you actually leave (as soon as the timer on order is long enough the pizza *could* have come out of oven if it went in immediately). So, you're not out making any tips, but getting paid only a few dollars a hour.

Also we don't have time to wait for you to go AFK for 20 minutes and then come back. For example, we're required to wait up to 2 minutes for a reply and then ask if you're still there. The worst customers are the ones who leave or do whatever else they're doing until they see that and say "Yeah, wait," and then go away again, and then repeat this. This has been done to me multiple times for upwards of 40 minutes and it is frustrating as hell because I have WAY more things that I need to do that I can't do until the karen leaves. 6 seconds though is a bit crazy; we can't see the rest of what was happening, but I'm guessing they got fed up with waiting.

Very glad I never used cloud saves...and the worst part is that I've tried other free art programs before and all of them had at least one thing about them that was enough to mame me wanna just go back to MediBang & FireAlpaca, so I don't have much choice but to stick.

    The warranty on the screw is pretty standard for computer parts that come with warranties. It lays on top to block users from unscrewing their part, causing internal damage, then claiming warranty. External damage is easy to label the purchasers fault but a shorted circuit could be caused by anything and the warranty has to honor it even if an act of sabotage on a part near the end of its warranty.

      You are mostly correct, insofar as the stated reason goes. But it is a bit more complex.
      For one, the cases of fraud is generally reasonably few such that the companies can just eat the cost (and probably pass it onto consumers via price increase). The mostly made this rule, which as someone noted, cannot be legally enforced, to discourage the behaviors in general so they don't have to--both to eat the cost and increase the price to consumers to cover(the latter so they can be more price competitive, of course).
      For another, it is possible, likely even, for an expert to identify external caused failure versus naturally occurring ones in an aged product("near the end of its warranty"). Most hard/acute failure occur very early in the product cycle. And delayed failure tend to have specific cause that can be easily identified. Forced acute failure on an aged product is rarely natural and thus tend to be user induced, intentional or otherwise. The problem here, however, is that the cost of expert inspection on every warranty claim would probably be more than the cost of fraud. As it were, most of the worker in repair depot are only of GED education level, if that, with a bit of training in handling whatever it is they are "fixing"--this is why component level repair is rarely a thing for most OEM, it's usually replacement in part or whole. In any case, this means that while an alternative is possible, it isn't viable. So fraudster are lumped with honest claims, one way or another.

    • @rodh1404
      @rodh1404 Před rokem +4

      @@justanoman6497 Most parts have a mean time between failure and some manufacturers like to use parts whose mean failure time is close to that of the warranty. So some of those parts do fail near the end of the warranty period, and even if the manufacturer wasn't aware that would happen at the time of manufacture, it becomes very obvious to them over time. IMO it's pretty scummy already for a manufacturer to knowingly do this, but some manufacturers make the situation even worse by not honoring the warranty when the customer returns products with these defects for repair, usually blaming the problem on the customer.
