Remember arriving in Tjäktja in hard wind, snow and rain. There was no available beds but mattresses were brought out for everyone so no one had to sleep outside. Everyone helped out, bringing in firewood and water, sharing meals, keeping the fire going. I have slept in many mountain huts since then but it's still one of my favorite memories.
Hey thanks for telling me! That makes me so happy because its one of my best memories from there too. Everyone was so kind and was really appreciating four walls and a roof. It seems like a lot of people thought it was a unusual but still very nice experience, me included!
At a different hut I ended up sleeping in the sauna, after it had cooled down a little bit. It was nice sleeping on top of my sleeping bag for the first half of that early September night. The hut warden made it very clear that no matter what she would find somewhere to put down a mattress and sleep for everyone.
This network of huts and the organization that owns them, and especially the people like yourself who actually physically maintain the property are an extremely worthwhile pursuit, as are all things where humans respectfully interact with nature and wilderness. It is certainly the result of incalculable work and youthful enthusiasm and I for one applaud you and your colleagues. Cheers.
So wonderful to see such clean remote wilderness being well cared for…
Appreciation from Wyoming! Thank you.
I can do nothing but agree to that! Thanks you for taking your time to watch and comment, I appreciate it all the way from sweden 😁
That's awesome. Thankyou from Alberta, Canada. I'm trying to plan a trip to Sweden, Norway, and Denmark where my family comes from. Norwegian grandpa, Swedish grandma, and Danish on my dad's side. It'll be a dream come true. Your film inspires the longing more.
Hey, you should definitely go! Its beautiful in pictures and movies but the real experience you Won't get until youre here. I'm actually looking in trivs to Canada, you've got great mountains and wildlife as well!!!
@@EmmaaNilss indeed
That's north Sweden, were nobody goes lol, normal Sweden dosent look like this.
@@playerforty4621 What is less normal about this than any other part of Sweden? The north is as normal as the south but obviously less people travel north to experience the wilderness there.
I love Alberto
Reminds me of the Scottish highlands and Cambrian mountains here in GB. There's such rugged and raw beauty in the mountains, I hope one day I get to see the higher peaks of Scandinavia.
Really? I would love to visit scotland one day!
Hi Emma! This summer we hiked the Kungsleden and slept in the Tjaktja hut. I had so many questions when I met you and Cornelius, so I'm super happy to see your video suddenly popping up at my timeline, wow! Thanks for making this video, I enjoyed it a lot and hope you will make more in the future. You guys are awesome! :)
Thank you very much. Im happy we could answer a few questions and that you found the vidoe too. Welcome to the fam and keep the hiking spirit up! Best wishes Emma
Kram Emma

Yes exactly like that, I feel so privileged ❤️
Hey Emma, what a nice surprise to see your face at the start of this video. We had a wonderful day at your hut near the end of our walk of the Kungsleden. You and Cornelius were wonderful hosts!!
Hey! Im very glad to hear that! I hope you had a lovely finish of your walk and that you will be back one day 😍
I was there three years ago and seeing it brought back wonderful memories. It's great what you people do and I really appreciate it. And what a place to do it! All the best to you both from Bath in England.
Thanks Kato! Im happy you here you've been there! I wish more people got to experience the special power of those remote places! Its really something!! Thanks for taking your time watching and commenting. It warms my heart, cheers
Greeting and salutations from Alabama, Emma! The moments you captured are phenomenal! I love the mountain, steppes, and beautiful landscapes all around you! Thank you for sharing a piece life with everyone watching!
Thanks for all the kind words! ❤️
I have visited Sweden a number of times in the past but always in the south. I have aso travelled in Norway as far north as Trondheim and I was always struck by the beauty of both these countries. Your vlog is stunning and very moving and my respect to you and Cornelius for taking up this role for 7 weeks. What an awesome premeval place!
Thank you very much! I've heard the West Coast of Norway is supposed to be beautiful but I've never been. Its definitely on my list! Thank you very much, from both of us!
Sweden is a beautiful country, with beautiful people and beautiful landscapes, thank you for showing us all Emma😀
Thanks for watching and commenting Steve! Have a good one, cheers ❤️
This was beautiful! What a stunning area :) It was fascinating to watch. Thank you for sharing ❤️
Thanks for watching 💕 i appreciate it !
Thank you. So beautiful.
Thank you so much for watching!
Hey Emma,
it's really nice to see the result of your adventure and getting flashbacks of the hike thanks to those beautiful shots! It was great meeting you (as a group) at the night train and having a really warm and welcoming time. I'm sure that every single one that got to "your" hut was happy and lucky to have such hut wardens.
Best,
Friedrich
Hey Friedrich!
Aw thank you very much! I hope you had a great adeventur as well! thanks for watching and commenting! 💕
What a wonderful place and a great video. Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed it very much. Hope to see more from your channel again. Have a great day.
Thank you so much, it makes me happy that you enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing your opinion! Have a great day
This is a lovely video Emma! Looks like a very rejuvenating and peaceful lifestyle. Stunning shots - I'd love to visit Sweden!
Thanks you Josh! I really appreciate your opinion! It was a peaceful experience. I had a lot of time to think about how I live and what I priorities. You should definitely come over here one day, and when you do let me know, cause then you've got yourself a private guide:)
@@EmmaaNilss Sounds great, now I have to come! Congratulations on your video and channel's success, you deserve it! It's a very nice video. We'll all be expecting more now :P
I am a tree person. Lots and lots of trees. Forests of trees. But …. still not having been there I must say I find it absolutely beautiful landscape and with no trees. I have surprised myself. Thank you for sharing.
Im happy you enjoyed it! I actually got surprised myself. I love tree aswell but this is just a stunning landscape trees or no trees.
Beautiful, reminds me of visiting that very cabin some years ago, in early summer. Completely snowed in, in fact getting there was quite hard. Yes I was happy to stay inside for the night, and for a fire in the woodstove! Even heard an avalanche the day after when going over the pass.
Wow! So fun that you've been here! And yeah, exposed is really the word to describe it! Thanks for taking your time watching and commenting 💕
Definitely gonna watch more of your videos. Loved it 👍👍👍
That makes me so happy! Welcome to the fam
Rather well put together. Thank you.
And thank you for watching and commenting!
Wow! I hadn’t seen anything about the people who maintain places like these. Thank you!! The scenery was beautiful!
Thanks, I'm happy to hear that!
Great video! Really makes you long for the Swedish mountains 😍
Thanks a lot! That was what I was hoping for! ❤️
I love these documentaries that shows people connecting with nature is what we should be. Awesome!
Great drone shots as well - new sub!
Hey thank you so much! Yeah I feel like that is what I and we need to do more. Hope to inspire to get out and explore nature more!
Really appreciate your comment! Thanks again!
To be fair, we can’t all be hut wardens. They need the infrastructure we all help maintain as well.
Treasure the time spent there and the memories of it.the
Wonderful experience.
This is a stunning and amazing resource for those who are priveledged to get to experience it. This is my first knowledge of such a system in Sweden. Thanks for sharing. Much love to you and Cornelius froy Wisconsin,🇺🇸
Hey I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it! As far as I know sweden is the only country that has this type of system. I know places with similar huts but not with staff such as we do it over here! I'm so happy to get to be a part of it! Cheers
Great video and nice revisiting with Tjäktja and you two. I met you when I visited the cabin this autumn. Due to bad weather, many had sought shelter there, perhaps 20 more than the capacity of the cabin. Even though it was crowded and chaotic, you and Cornelius were absolutely wonderful with everyone. Best experience of all the cabins I visited 👍
Thank you for all the kind words! Im happy to hear you had a nice time in the cabin, we did too 😁 Thanks for taking your time commenting, this made my day, cheers!
Thank you for a wonderful video!
Thank you for watching and commenting. It makes me very happy :) Cheers!
Looking at this my first thought was "freedom". Its easy to romantize such an area but the work to keep it up never ends. We should appreciate the work our ancestors did to have the lives we have now.
I think you are right! And I'm really trying to do that more than I've done before it's too easy to take for granted
thank you so much for this video...very beautiful
Thanks you for taking your time both watching and commenting! It makes me very happy :)
A beautiful video and interesting story. I'm an older person in my 60s but I would still love to visit a place like this!
I think you should sir. We had many visitors the same age as you and they were all very happy about being out exploring!
Amazing place! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for watching and commenting! really appreciate it
I volunteered once at a hostel in the Tatras, not this remote at all but still super close to the national park, so plenty of hiking available. We arranged it in a way we worked our 24 hours a week in 2 days so we had 5 days off to explore the mountains. It was amazing.
This looks even more interesting, being quite far from civilization for an extended period of time must be really soothing.
Yes it sure is! Sounds like you had a nice adventure as well
Stunning landcape!
What an incredible place to wake up to everyday!
Yes, it definitely was! It's weird how you adapt as well because after a while you get used to it and don't realise until your home how fantastic it was! With that said I actively tried to appreciate that place as much as possible while being there
What a beautiful country! Thanks for sharing what you do! Love the drone shots and music, really adds to the story. 💗

Thank you so much for letting me know! I really appreciate it!
The Great Escape..what a revelation..
No war corruption pollution, poverty homelessness..to see the Earth as we should..Absolutely Peaceful Experience.
There was a lot of times I was thinking the exact same thing while being there. It is insane how we have really created the world we're living in. Before the human did anything there was probably a whole lot of places lokking like this.
Now afterwards I can't help myself to going around wondering and fanatising how the cities looked before we did anything to that place!
Thanks for watching! I really appreciate it
Wow -a lovely video - the mountain hut is such a precious place -
I can nothing but agree! Thank you so much
What scenery - absolutely amazing. You are so fortunate to do this as "work" !! My daughter lives in Helsingborg and the photos she sends me of that area are just magical. Sweden looks like an amazingly lovely country .. .. .. .. .. if you can handle the cold !! ha ha ha ha ha ha. Enjoy.
I feel very privileged! Sweden is beautiful, north to south! I'm actually from the South of sweden as well, an hour from helsingborg, and I wouldn't say its very cold down there, but I guess it depends on what you're comparing with! Thanks for watching 😁
"It's also a place where you live the weather". Beautifully put! I want to go there. Thank you for the video
I think you should go there! Thanks for watching and taking your time commenting! ☀️
Looks like a great place for a sesshin. Thanks for posting!
You are right. Funny thing, there is a couple of meditations places marked along kungsleden. So you definitely right.
Hej fra Tyskland, what a wonderfull documentation and good footage from this beautifull landscape. Thanks for this one...hälsningar Michael
Thanks to you for watching!
I want to do this as well! While others might see the challenges and solitude that comes with it, I'd very much love to experience this for 1-2 months. The video was very inspiring to me, thank you :)
I'm happy to hear you feel inspired. Yes I think you and me are the same there. It gives you a new perspective facing those challenges. Also nothing good comes easy or what do they say ;)
Stunning
I can nothing else but agree!
I passed by the hut in late August 2016. The days before, it had been around 18 degrees C in Kiruna, but when climbing up the pass, I was greated by a short blizzard. I took shelter in the hut on the top of the pass, and was joined by another traveller going in the opposite direction who also didn't consider it safe to continue. But after about 20 minutes, the blizzard was gone again and the valley opened up. It was an amazing experience!
Thank you STF for maintaining these facilities!
Its so funny because I had almost the same experience at the same place in beginning of September 2021. I agree with you, thank you stf!
Hello from beautiful British Columbia, Canada! What a beautiful filmed, narrated and edited video. I could see myself spending a few months a year being a hutwarden :) Well done and keep the videos coming.
Hey! Thank you very much for this cheerful comment! I hope everything is well over in Canada! Cheers
so beautiful!
Thanks you so much!
Simply wow 🤩 thanks for making this!
Thanks for watching and commenting
Hej,
Det var en mycket intressant redogörelse.
Tack så mycket.
Hälsningar.
Tack själv!
Damn, I wanna girl who is/has been a Hut Warden. That outdoorsy-ness, the business sense, the feeling that shes domestic while also being wild. Im sold.
I've read and heard a lot about the wilderness in Norway and Finland but very little about Sweden. So nice to get a chance to see your beautiful countryside. We don't have many huts with wardens here in Scotland but it makes me appreciate their work.
That makes me very happy! We actually got quite a lot of mountain huts in Sweden and that im so thankful for!!
Do you own the hut? and how do you get shopping?
We do not own the hut, STF does, we just work there. We dont really go shopping, im working on a second piece covering the topic food but short answer we get to sent our food out in advance during wintertime.
@@EmmaaNilss Oh cool...well it looks like a nice life there.
Also it makes sense that you get food sent to you.
Great video 👍
It was nice meeting you at the tsjaktja hut. Had a great time there seeing the northern lights there, and having a warm bed for us 2 and our doggy!
Nice im happy to hear that! Yeah I remember those northen lights, they were just great!
You are literally living my dream. Enjoy and savor every moment
Really! Then I hope for you to live your dream as well one day! Thank you very much. Savor is really the word. I have to say I did my best!
Thanks for watching and commenting. Appreciate it a lot.
Saknar fjällen! Bra video Emma! 😍
Det är lätt att sakna ett sådant ställe! Tack hampus ☀️
Amazing video! Thank you for this
Hey, thank you so much! It really means a lot ot me!
I'm working on the next episode at the moment so it won't be too far away!
@@EmmaaNilss sounds great, will definitely be checking it out!
Such an amazing experience
Yes, I'm very greatful for it!
Good afternoon Emma. Once again, another stunning and excellent video with superb production values. Thanks for sharing another tour of your life living in the great outdoors as a strong, self-sufficient independent offgrid woman. Have a wonderful week and of course a Happy Thanksgiving 😍😍😎😎🌹🌼🌼
Hey Richard!
Thank you so much for those beautiful words! They really mean a lot to me!
I'm working on next episode at the moment so it won't be too far away! I hope you will enjoy it as well :)
Happy thanksgiving (a bit too late) and have a beautiful week!

@@EmmaaNilss You're quite welcome Emma.
Love the video. Subscribed from New York City!
Thanks you very much! Appreciate it a lot!
I trekked the Kungsleden a few years back. What a quiet marvel that is.
Couldn't have said it better myself! I'm happy you've been here! Its stunning!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Cheers Emma
Great video, loved it! Being alone up there looks like heaven to me, in this crazy world.
Yes I can nothing but agree. Although it also came with its own challenges, I'm thinking of doing a video about that as well, would it be interesting?
Such a well made film. What a place!
I have walked the Padjelantaleden and the experience verges on the spiritual.
Watch out for me at your hut!
Hey John! Thank you so much!
Padjelantaleden is on my list :) But it is really amazing how being out in nature can cause all those deep feeling and especially the feeling of connection.
Haha I will sleep with one eye open from now on!
Have a good one, cheers Emma
not only a beautiful landscape, but a caring warden too, nice to see a strong woman that doesnt have to be half naked in a thumbnail to be successful making wilderness related content
I haven't even thought about that! Thanks for watching and commenting!
thank´s for upload 👌💛 fantastic nature 🧡
Thanks for watching and commenting 💕
Awesome place. Truly a beautiful country.
Yes! Its easy to be home blind but im really trying to appreciate it for what it actually is.
Stunningly beautiful, what a Place to walk.
Oh yeah! Highly recomed
I love to see more about your life there! Keep it coming.. 😊 I am jealous!
Thanks! Got one video soon ready to be uploaded
Hiking in Sweden is on my list. I will keep this place in mind. Wonderful nature, so different from what we have in Italy
Hey! Yeah you should definitely come, kungsleden is a really nice trail to hike when you decide to come here. Then you will pass by tjäktja as well!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hi Emma, what a lovely video. My partner and I camped at Tjäktja on the 4th of September this year and had a brief chat with you about your time as a hut warden. Watching the video makes me miss the hike and scenery more than I already was. Cheers from Scotland.
Hi! That makes me so happy! I miss that place too, it's really something different! Thanks for watching and might see you out there again, it's a small world after all 😋
@@EmmaaNilss It really is a magical place. Haha it really is a small world, so I hope to bump into you again some time. Cheers :)
Absolutely wonderful! Makes me want to go see it in person. Mountains! ❤ from Wyoming USA
I think you should one day! Although you got pretty stunning landscapes over in the usa as well!
Wow. Such a great and worthwhile venture
Yes it really was! Thanks for watching and taking you time commenting. It makes me very happy ❤️
Wow, so beautiful place!
Really, it's magical 😍
I'm now on a workation (if that's already an official word) on canarian islands and stumbled upon your's and Cornelius' video. You made me instantly wanna leave here and go there... Job wel done... I'll be looking forward to more video's while making plans to go there in the hopefully not too far away future...
Hey! That does not sound to bad either to be honest! With that said you should definitely come here one day, its really worth exploring! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
I'm actually working on the next one right now so won't be too far away! I hope you'll enjoy it too!
I walk the mountains in Scotland and live on a sailboat off the west coast there. Our mountains are very similar...fabulous...enjoy and thanks for the video!
That sounds like a great lifestyle! Thanks for watching and commenting 💕
Wow such a wonderful place and relax time,This is literally amazing and beautiful worth seeing natural landscape😊💞💞💞
Yes I highly recomed the North of sweden to all who wants to see natural beauty
In Summer 2021 I hiked Kungsleden and slept at this exact hut, washed my hair by the waterfall...there was heavy rain that day, so we were very happy to spend the night
Hey! I'm happy to hear that! Then you know all about the experience. When the weather is really bad thats when you appreciate four walls and a roof the most.
Thanks for watching and commenting!

Living in London uk. Seeing this remoteness, is akin to a breath of fresh air!
The cosmos must look amazing out there!
It does, I would say you find some time to get out there and see for yourself, it sounds like you need it!
@@EmmaaNilss You’re right, I do need it. We are waiting to move to a quiet village in the West Country.
The process is painfully slow Emma.😏
Nice wood chopping by the way😎👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
That is some seriously gorgeous country up there. This video made me add Sweden to my bucket list!
That makes me very happy! Sweden is definitely worth a visit!
Had no idea such things exist! Great idea though, and I've no doubt that they do save lives. Enjoy the tranquility!
Hey! Thank you very much. I agree with you, its a great idea to have thise huts and I appreciate it a lot!
Great stuff! I had huge pangs of nostalgia for the times in the 1980s when we lived off the grid in a hut off the road, 15 miles from town, in southeastern Minnesota's Richard J. Dorer Memorial Hardwood Forest. We carried water from the spring, not just for ourselves but also for our growing herds and flocks of livestock. (Thankfully, we eventually had access to a river for the larger stock, swine, cattle, and Norwegian Fjord Horses. Sheep in that climate do not need a whole lot of water. Poultry ditto, although ducks and geese we found were a bit wasteful of the water I carried for them.) Somehow I managed to warp the cast iron baffle in our magnificent Jøtul "Little Giant" burning hop hornbeam with the draft open. I was a newbie, but quickly understood the benefits of squatting over a double vault composting toilet, and segregating urine for compost addition.
This. is. Sweden! (Although to me it looks a lot like Norway.) Swedes ought to keep Sweden, if they can. Just my opinion.
Hey im very happy to read your story! It sounds like a really cool and challenging experience! This is sweden although Norway is just around the corner so up here I totally get its looks similar. We even walked up a mountain where we could see over to Norway!
Beautiful, it was amazing to see Tjaktja, I stayed there back in 2008, ,
Nice, then you know exactly how it is out there! Thanks for watching 💕
Cool!!
Thank you!
I did Nikkaluokta to Abisko in summer 2020. This video is a timely reminder that I must redo the hike!
Yeah its a wonderful place, there is even a lot of less know trails you can do if you get over here again!
oh my goodness I'd love to do this kind of thing! Being able to disconnect from the city and get a hands on approach to daily life, fishing, cutting wood, etc. and being rewarded with a starry sky, fresh crisp air and a cup of tea would be like a reset.
You are completely right! Its really something different. For me the most important part was getting away from all impressions. I think its healthy to stop and reflect for a while and not always put new stuff into your brain. With that said its hard with all tempting and fun activities we are surrounded by in our everyday life! So this is the spot for reflection!
Thanks for watching and commenting. It makes me very happy!
Peaceful❤
I'm happy you're saying that, it's what I was hoping to accomplish! Thanks ❤️
Hej Emma! We stayed at Tjakta when you where there! What a coincidence that I saw this video. We had a lovely stay at tjakta, very peaceful.
Hi! Really thats funny! Well then I hope you enjoyed your time on the trail and thanks for watching! 😁
I was at Tjäktja 2021 with a friend on our Kungsleden hike. It was a wonderful stop, and as always the hut wardens were fantastic. The weather was great, so we enjoyed a beer from the hut, spoke to the hut wardens and then continued on our way. A wonderful stop on a wonderful hike.
Sounds like a really nice memory and it seems like you were lucky since tjäktja is one of the huts which usually dosent have a shop or beer :)
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Cheers Emma
Me too!
Hey Emma, I have visited your lovely hut back in february 2020. I have experienced the harsh conditions brutal weather. Love to stay in the STF Huts soon again. Greetings.
Hey that makes me happy, then you know what its about! Cheers Emma
the kind of simple living i love

Not sure but I think I just found your other video with Cornelius, forgive me if I'm wrong but where you are sure radiates with me , love that wide open,no one around feel, hardly get that here in New Zealand, bit small getting over populated,5million people now 😮 Anywho a fantastic video, right up my alley, love from New Zealand
Hey! I'm happy you found the video and that you enjoyed it! I were in nz 5 years ago and believe it or not that was where I found my love for outdoor life! I totally get what you mean with the wide open valleys and no people around which is iconic for sweden. With that said I love the nature you've got over there as well. It's not the same, it's different but still very very lovely! Cheers from the other side of the globe
Just found youre channel you crazy adventurer. New subscriber. Good luck 👍
Hahaha well then welcome to the fam! 😁
Awesome video! Really regret that I didn't took the opportunity to visit you this summer...
Aw hey you, you get more chances, for example march-april 😁
I hiked from Kvikkjokk to Abisko 4 years ago. The trail and those huts were AMAZING. I've never enjoyed a bastu as much as on the trail.
Nice! Yeah unfortunately tjäktja doesnt have one but of course we walked the 12km to the closest hut just to get a sauna and chocolate 😁
@@EmmaaNilss My memory has every other hut along the trail with sauna. And I met lots of "in between" stugvärdar som besökte de andra veckovis för att duscha och prata med andra värdar.
