When the fear hits on Crib Goch

  • Spring Time crossing of the mighty Crib Goch. No fancy music or over editing. Just clear footage of what it’s like on the most significant parts of the Ridge Line. Of the many many people that summit Snowdon every year, only a small % choose to take
The most challenging route. Hiking, scrambling and climbing is just the start. Once on top, you have to take those first few steps on the ridge and they may be the worse part when it’s the first time. Once on the ridge, you do get into a flow and it gets much more easy. Altho this place is a walk in the park for many, for many more like me it’s a challenge. I hope you enjoy the footage and it motivates you to give it a try.

I used to love a ridge walk....half done most of the Munros and while doing that took in as many ridge walks as I could......now the fear gets me even on a gentle slope, can't look over battlements of castles.......think its an age thing. Unfortunately, it just came on over a few years
Your video had me gripping the chair arms.....but....
    Thanks for sharing.....
Even if I had to look away😮

I appreciate him pointing out 'there's handholds all the way' but that's still making a very big assumption about how much i trust my own hands!!

Years ago the party I was with had to assist a couple who had become stuck fast on the ridge. Its a pretty daunting drop, and I can see why it can be a challenge. The party I was with were all much more experienced climbers with a lot of rock climbing and winter routes under our belts, so a couple of us scrambled past, and with one of us on each side for reassurance, they managed to get across. I have no idea how long they had been stuck for, but they were very happy to get to the easier going on the other side. Lovely footage. Still a few small pockets of snow here and there I see.

I enjoy mountain climbing but Crib Goch is in a different league I haven't the confidence and know my limits. I envy anyone who climbs this Ridge. I'm petrified just looking at it. Well done🎉

Well done! Not easy conquering the ‘head’. You managed that with great skill and showed that this expedition was well within your group’s collective ability in these conditions. Enjoying that position, the view and the achievement together is something most may not ever know. 🎉

You have always have you think hard about weather changes on Crib Goch.. if it had rained and the rock was slippery this could have been
Very serious. I don't get this desire to video everything. Enjoy the mountains the views.. the sensations. You will remember it. The last I did Crib Goch was as the final stretch of the 14 peaks. My partner and I were so lucky.. we had a glorious clear day.. travelling light... so much to enjoy. You never forget it. Good luck with your next trip.

@@user-qk8er9jq4u, we video our journeys on ‘just for the weekend van life’ to create memories for ourselves (hardly anyone watches us!)
We have said when we’re too old to do what we do anymore, we have a bank of videos we can watch to relive our memories!

Ha, good old Crib Goch. Been over there a few times, all in different weather. Any first timers attempting this, I would stick to the left-hand side of the ridge, becif you do slip, there's a good chance of stopping yourself. Slip on the right-hand side, then it's usually good bye. Reason being, the right hand side is so much steeper.

Well done. Lovely ridge. Great in winter as well with the right gear.
Try the Aonach Eagach. Same applies, summer or winter, never disappoints.
And the Clachaig Inn at the end for a well deserved pint!!

Darren -- Crib Goch is not for the faint-hearted. In windy conditions, I would definitely avoid. Arêtes and me do not gel! There is a better way to enjoy climbing in my view. The brave thing to do is to say this part is not for me. I will tab out thank you -- and live to fight another day.

Its only hard for noobies if you stop and think or start taking in tbe views and realise where you are. Just think about your feet and hands look at where your going to go next and not the near verticle side which to be honest can even get the locals heads spinning

Crib Goch is much easier than it looks… But its’s stupid to take beginners up there… Saying that, I took 3 or 4 girlfriends up there and they all handed it very well! ❤
