    The Daubenhorn via ferrata is the longest in Switzerland, graded K5 (extremely difficult). It is made of 2,000 metres of steel cable, 215 metres of ladder and a couple of steel cable bridges.
    It took me more than 4 hours to complete and was really demanding. After reaching the top, the way down leads across a snowfield and then through the scenic Lämmerenboden Valley back to Gemmi.

    what is the meaning of "solo climb" in context of via ferrata? Withouth protection?

    • @ZenHikingSwitzerland
      @ZenHikingSwitzerland  Před 2 lety +692

      Hi, I feel some people are a bit confused about the term "solo" in reference to climbing.
      Very simply put:
      "Free Solo" = no ropes, no protection
      "Free Climb" = ropes, no additional climbing aiders
      "Solo Climb" = alone, ropes and gear are allowed

      @@walterdraper6630 It's simple: A villain would risk your life so he can have fun. A hero would risk his own life so you can have fun. Those who installed this via ferrata risked their lives so you can have fun. And they don't even make a profit out of it (they are a non-profit organization).
      It's not easy to climb those mountains with some heavy equipment like a rotary hammer drill and an engine generator, to drill all those holes, to fix rungs and huge ladders, while hanging over the void. Plus, they thoroughly check the fixtures on a regular basis, to make sure that it stays safe over time.

However, it's also very inspiring and helps me see why it's worth to keep on fighting in my recovery. I will keep trying. Just the magnificence of the Alps. Amazing and quite scary views!
    I would like to try a Via Ferrata climb some time in the near future.

      Even though it's a "via ferrata" with cables, steps and protection, unless you're already a good climber, this is a challenging climb because of the altitude gain and the solitude. If you're interested, I would strongly suggest using the services of a guide.

    Bellissima via ferrata, complimenti, bravo! Ottime anche le riprese, panorami mozzafiato, forse un po' lungo il montaggio, ma capisco che era lunga anche la via😄 Discesa invece per via normale? Ciao, e ancora bravo!
