  • ROGER FEDERER has said his wife Mirka Federer gave up her own tennis career so they could stay together. Roger Federer, has been married to his beloved wife Mirka Federer, since they tied the knot in Switzerland back in 2009.
However, their relationship almost ran into trouble early on, according to the tennis star. Roger and Mirka first met at the Sydney Olympics back in 2000 where they were both competing.
She was a rising tennis star herself at the age of 21 and the pair played doubles together. They started dating soon after and later married in 2009 and had four children together.
However, Roger has been open about how Mirka prioritised his career over hers. Speaking last year, he explained how although injury forced her to step back in 2002, she also made the choice not to return.
He said: "She has been wonderful in terms of support. "It was amazing how easily she walked away from tennis and retired, never really tried to come back.
“With me winning Wimbledon eventually and becoming the player I became, she was, like, 'You know what, I'd rather have helped you have an amazing career [than] me having some kind of a career.
“‘And we won't see each other and we'll grow unhappy, and maybe we'll break up because we won't see each other enough.' “We just love our time together and that's still the case," he added to The Times.
This isn’t the first time Roger has sung his wife’s praises for her support. Over their marriage, the former world number one player has been clear about his love for Mirka.
Speaking to the Guardian back in 2016, he said: “When I met her I had zero titles, today I have 88, so she’s been on this ride for the whole time. “She used to train five, six hours in a row. Her parents had to work extremely hard.
“She was tough, and she taught me how to work. I would be at the tennis centre and see her do six-hour sessions, and I’d think, I can’t do that.
“I’d check out mentally after an hour and go, this is so boring. So I’d get kicked out of practice for bad behaviour.” Roger and Mirka have two sets of identical twins together.
In 2009, the former tennis player gave birth to identical girls, called Myla Rose and Charlene Riva. Then in 2014, she had twin boys who are called Leo and Lenny.

They should play mixed doubles. His situation brilliance and shot-making will still be great even after rehab. They could do for doubles what Emma has done for W T A.
