    So nice to see FreeCAD growing up thanks to RealThunder. Hopefully FreeCAD will make this branch the main branch. Amazing how quickly RealThunder picks up requests and fixes. For years there has not been this kind of progress, exciting times. Good for everyone who hates autodesk and fusion 360 for their drugdealer tactics.

    Thank you for this great tutorial. I've switched to RealThunder's branch recently to overcome Topological Naming Problem and it has been great since then. This video has a lot of information (which will take some time to digest) for creating a proper product but one thing is missing. How can we define some tolerance for matching parts? You know, if we don't leave some space between those alignment tabs, they'll stuck (or may not match) with the inconsistencies in the production process. So how can we have have an offset of, let's say 0.2mm, in that counter boolean operation (cut)?

    I really appreciate this very in-depth and applied approach! I noticed that you used several reference circles in your spline control sketches. What were these for?

    • @OficineRobotica
      @OficineRobotica  Před 3 lety

      Thank you for your kind words. The circles that you see, if I understand correctly, are added automatically to bsplines and are actually control points. I disabled the bspline comb because not needed in this case and would only clutter the view. Stay tuned for the second part of this tutorial because there are new tools added to part design that make modeling even easier and no need to workbench jump anymore. All thanks to Realthunder. FreeCAD development is going light speed lately.

    Greetings. I'm new to FreeCAD, and am trying to grasp slicing a solid using shape binder. Can it not be sliced using :slice apart: function in Part WB? I tried to find this functionality of shape binder in documentation (using as a cutting plane) but all I found was that shape binder is used to transfer geometry shape to other bodies or sth. like that...?

    Thank you so much. This interface does not look at all like the Windows version, is it only available in the Linux version?

    • @OficineRobotica
      @OficineRobotica  Před 3 lety +3

      A small change makes for a big difference. The interface customization is not os dependent. Take a look here to see how to do it forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=49616
      To summarise
      1-enable independent tree view
      2- move combo on the right and tree view on the left
      3-enable transparency for the tree.
      That's all that is changed but it makes for such a different experience, at least on a 16:9 aspect ratio screen.

  • @tenlittleindians

    Did I miss something? The cut for the alignments make them the same size right? You cannot fit one into the other without allowing some clearance. Does FreeCAD have built in clearances?

    • @OficineRobotica
      @OficineRobotica  Před 3 lety +2

      Well...not yet. All this is still in development. @realthunder is nearing a new release with improved part design modeling tools according to this twitter.com/FreeCADNews/status/1313146734093238273
      I try and ask him for the clearance option in the showcase thread . He is really engaging and responsive with his dev branch users.

  • @friedrichnietzsche6599

  • @kaichristiansen8110

    Great video. I have a quick question. when i follow along and revolve my sketch, the sketch disappears and is replaced by the revolve icon in the tree. So I'm left not able to adjust the object and update in real time. Would you happen to know why that is? Thanks. (Running Realthunder's latest release, Dec 2020)

    • @OficineRobotica
      @OficineRobotica  Před 3 lety

      you need to expand the tree with the arrow alongside of the revolve and double click on the sketch to open it. Play with the visibility of the features by clicking the eye icon in the tree. To see updates in real time you need the sketch opened and the revolve feature set to visible. Sometimes an F5 is necessary to update the scene. Cheers

    31:23 oh no you don't, oh no no no no, my heart is going to stop...
    31:53 what the heck, it padded successfully? what magic is this?
    I think i tried that in normal FreeCAD once, and it threw dozens of meaningless obtuse errors at me, sometimes it partially worked, sometimes it didn't, it broke and it fixed itself, and i could see no rhyme or reason, until i figured out that you're not supposed to have insular features within a sketch unless they are subtractive features. But here it just pads it like a champ (or rather like any other program out there) and it's fine? What sorcery is this...
    Normally just about every encounter with FreeCAD scars me for life with just sheer impenetrability and layers of implied knowledge it expects of you, inability to report bugs, unhelpful forum, and i still don't quite understand all you have shown here - which is not your fault, you did well, it's just the subject matter is fairly complex to me still, i'll just have to go through this slowly again and it'll get better. But colour me impressed, looks like i will actually be able to build things with this branch, i have been test driving it a bit already and hadn't managed to break it yet.
