I'm new to Ondsel and CAD overall, thus I'm presently lacking the basics. However, I can compartmentalize your logical tutorials and incorporate as I get up to speed with the basics. Uh. I tried to design board for similar SBC. First I measured it and made model in OpenSCAD. Then it took me 40 minutes to make hollow box, basically two subtracted rectangles that I can use for sketches. I had to start with sketch->pad->sketch->pocket rather than using walls with thickness or cube that cannot be modified at all. Then I tried to make four 6x6mm stands in the corner with fillet on inner corner and align that to walls. This took me like 3 hours, I don't know why. Then holes and I realized screw holes and pocket are different object :-(. Ports were easy but I moved openscad model to intersect walls and did not used binders. After watching this video 8 hours later, many things are clear and I know I can do them better, but learning curve is ... difficult. For example I was not even to turn on shadows, my view is slightly broken (some triangles have weird shading) and when I closely followed adding the lid, it breaks vertical edges 2mm below the top unlike in this video. Plus it's worse and there are some issues I cannot fix, my base plane is showing at weird random angle, once I broke object by separating plane, I have some issues with cyclic dependencies and it's always something, I feel like if I spend something like one hour on model, it breaks. For example slice create two overlapping 3d models. Undo does not have operation name so it's hard to get back.

wow i really appreciate this tutorial, i have learnt a lot. I just want to note, if you are using 0.21.2 when using the shortcuts there is no shift, it is just the letter.

At about 7:00, you set the cube's color to orange. I can't get this to work in FC 0.22.38001 or Ondsel 2024.2.38021 - the shape just remains gray. Could this be caused by a preference setting? Or perhaps it's a regression.

You said that VariableSets can be used to store values across files. How does that work? Isn't a VariableSet stored inside of a FCStd file?

What KDE theme do you use?

given the updates to freecad with .22 and 1.0 coming, and with some of the yet to be merged features of linkstage, which do you think you'll be working with more: Ondsel, 0.22dev/1.0, or linkstage?

Why have a separate entity like CubeProperties with variables instead of just naming the relevant constraints and refer to them directly, or if it's some property then refer to that directly??

So this is pretty much a replacement for Dynamic Data? Really great that there’s a built-in solution now.

I've needed this so badly! I've actually had a really hard time dealing with variables to be shared across models (without resorting to multipart) in other CAD software. Usually, my go-to was to use excel spreadsheets to drive a design - but that had strange limitations. This looks basically like multpart, but does seem intuitive to use. Support for integer lists seem to indicate that configurations might be a *really* nice! I'm excited to try this out! Also: *finally* a linux CAD suite that's (maybe) ready for prime-time! I know freeCAD has been here a minute, but I just ...couldn't take the interface/breakage. Recent updates to Ondsel make me feel like it's (maybe) time to dive in - tutorials like this go a long way! Thank you!

That is handy. I can see a case both for variable sets, and for spreadsheet/alias. I can imagine a scenario where it is just easier to see all parameters in a single sheet and be able to navigate them without a lot of GUI clicking, plus the ability to use cells for notes or related information.

Great video! I found this very useful. Please make more videos using Ondsel ES - its UI and workflow is on another level, the best next step forward for struggling FreeCAD beginners. Just tried to watch this but that background ambient you added is making it hard to understand with your accent.

Please don't install Glass, it's proper hell. I have spent ages losing my mind why i can't click on the left third of the screen. The concept might be OK but it's so unfinished as to better not be used and it's abandoned for 4 years. I forgot i have Glass and there's no obvious way to configure it, not when you forgot you have it.

I try to follow the Tools section but I get no line when creating a subshapebinder from the 2 points of the sketches. What am I missing?

Hello, I'm trying to customize the workbench list in FreeCAD Link Stable 2024.03.17 to remove workbench I don't use. For for this version I don't have a 'Workbench' section in 'Preferences' and no 'Workbench' tab in 'Customize'. So for this version I can't find how to activate or deactivate workbench Could someone using the latest version of FreeCAD Link help me?

WTF? Begin the tutorial with instructions to DELETE freecad folders? ARE YOU SURE? What about to rename or move them instead? Lots of users are not "advanced" so much and they accidentally can delete their working configs because of trying some customization from youtube... Aaaargh!
