@@prozac5314 As someone who's a fan of both groups, that point is spot on. It's the main fault in my/Carsons (ironically I share his name lol) generation, we are incapable of recognizing that we all make mistakes like these at one point in our lives or another. It's one of the root cause of the mental health crisis as well, people believe their lives are over from one mistake

Honestly if I had to sit down and talk with one, it would easily be James may. While I find clarkson is the best presenter, or funniest, he’s not the dude I want to sit with and have a beer with. Richard hammond is probably who I’d want to talk with about cars, and James may I feel like I could practically talk anything and have an interesting conversation with.

To all the people in the replies of this comment pointing out how May is already very well-off and he simply didn’t need the money the show was giving him: not to be disrespectful, but I’m just saying I don’t think that really matters. He was, and is, a true friend to the greatest extent he can be. There’s no reason to point out that he’s wealthy. It doesn’t make a difference.

I envy your friendships. As a life long loner with only a few acquaintances at an arms length, I've come to realize I've missed out. No one having my back, and to some extend me not having anyones back, kind of make me the first to fall in all relevant situations. At my previous job everyone threw me under the bus as the big bad wolf, which ended with me losing my job in the end. Everyone else there had an ally or more except me, so no one stepped forward to clear my name. Bs like that reassured me people are fake trash, but their not.
My department boss was the guilty one, btw. He threw a big stack of defect, but not worthless, laptops in the garbage. He later lost his job as well. He was the closest co-worker I had while I was there.

I've got so much respect for James and Richard after this, and Jeremy too for that matter.
If they were nothing more than rich celebrities who worked together, the *safest* option would've been to just get a replacement for Jeremy and leave him in the dust, continue the show without him. Richard and James would've managed fine, financially.
They didn't do that though, because they wouldn't abandon their mate. Instead they started the Grand Tour.
They took a risk, and it paid off. They got to be together again and make amazing content much better than what they previously had. Which worked out for us viewers too.
But we only know that now. Back then, it was a pretty big risk signing off from the BBC. A risk they took out of respect for their friend.
