    Great story, lovely images. My 5D begins with 052, so I suspect it's among the early ones. I've only had it a couple of months and have shot maybe 100 frames. No issues.

    Hello, congratulations on your very successful purchase of the Canon 5d. As well as very successful photos. After 5 years I returned to photography and I managed to buy the same camera with a mileage of 5400 photos and a Canon 50mm / f1.8 version 2 lens. This is my first FF SLR camera. Greetings from Poland.
    I am using google translator.

      Hi there and thanks for your comments! I’m sure you’ll have great fun with that combination. Best of both worlds!

    Pleasant video thanks. I have a "2" series and the mirror did fall off. No worries at all 4 small dots of superglue, a bit of moderate pressure in refitting the mirror and let it sit for 24 hours and it's good for many more years. Mine has stayed re-attached for years now. Best wishes!

    I have owned 3 of these cameras over the years shooting mainly portraits and weddings.The first one I bought new in 2006 shot over 100,000 actuations with no problems whatsoever.
    I moved on to the 5d mark ii then the mark iii.
    The only one I had a fault with was mark ii so it just shows how good mark I classic is.👍

    I think you'd enjoy a Nikon D700, would go really well with your Nikon lens. Another legendary camera like the 5D.

    I use my Nikkor Pre-AI lenses on mine. Don’t worry about the mirror falling off, I have an early one and I’ve hammered it with no mirror problems.

      You need the correct adapter. From Nikon AI-s to EOS. Plenty on eBay

    Great video and very impressive pictures especially considering that you must have been manual focusing w/o the aid of the confirmation light. I also recently picked up a used but rather brand new 5D from a US dealer. Somebody removed the focusing screen from it and I gather the camera was "unsellable" and must have been a dust collector in a camera shop for few years. The mirror appears to be w/ corrected design and it carries SN starting with 172. I have not yet shot with it much but look very much forward to doing in very shortly.

    First of all I like the images. Both the way the camera lens does it but also the style. Very nice.
    Congratulations you have a bargain. 99 for the lens and 250 for the body are the old prices (at least in Germany) and the 1.4 AIS tended to go for 250 UKP..., both seem to be in pristine condition. Not to mention the price of the adapter... Well found.
    I originally chose Nikon DSLRs simply because AIS lenses work directly without converter on the Nikon DSLRs.. I have the 5d Mk 1 too but I use the Canon 40mm 2.8 pancake as I find it is fast and the slight increase in field of view suits my genres. (Street)
    If you are interested there are videos on all of this on my channel.
    Thanks for putting the images up. This combination is something I was thinking about, but ended up getting the adapter for my Fuji XPro-1 with the AIS lenses. I may now get an adapter for this too. The style of image is very film like and appeals to my tastes. Actually similar to the XPro.
    Thanks for that Alex.,

    I would change to a EF 50 f1.4 to avoid the manual focus.

      @vintagevantics  Před rokem +2

      I do use the EF 50 1.8 on the 5D and it’s very good but love the look of the older lenses. Even if the focussing is a bit hit and miss.

    That’s an awful lot of money paid for a 2 serial number. The 3 serial numbers had the better screen with no tint.
    If the bars aren’t installed then the mirror fall off can happen. The issue wasn’t realised until after they finished making them. The bars needed to be installed to correct the issue. Canon never made any with ‘better glue’ etc - it’s a complete myth. The recall would’ve rejected certain serial numbers if that was the case!
    Sorry for the negative comment. Hopefully it answers questions for some.

      It’s an amazing camera and lens combination. I’d happily have paid more! Thanks for the input on the serial numbers. I guess I may have just been lucky then eh?!

      @@vintagevantics your calm presentation is lovely and is in fact enunciated very clearly. your choice of music during the photo viewing is great.
      and, finally, and in my opinion, you made an excellent decision in selecting the particular copy of the 5d that you have (and despite the comment of another commenter, it in fact remains factually true that your copy, assessing by serial number, is not included in the group that had the mirror problem.
      beautiful camera paired with a beautiful lens !

    • @Whywas6scared
      @Whywas6scared Před 3 měsíci

      Nonsense! The pronunciation is excellent, far better than most CZcamsrs. As for the mirror, if you have a film camera upbringing and don't take tens of shots on continuous shooting every time when only one is needed, then I think it will last just fine.
