The ghost girl saved her little sisters life. When they first walked into the house two people in the background were discussing the fact that the younger child is now getting sick.
Never caught that!
The ending to that scene is a gut punch: Cole giving the ghost girl’s little sister her favorite doll from her, and having to tell her that her big sister won’t be coming back.
FUCK!!!!!!!!!! what is missed is astonishing
31:30
i caught that, just thougt this poor family was cursed with some heredidary disease, but after, it connected!...so sick..you would think parents would want to keep their children healthy.....who wants to .....
The kid should have won an Oscar for his performance! One of the outstanding performances of all time regardless of his age. And the mom too. Both were nominated but neither has ever won anything.
It's an honor just to be nominated.
Should have got an Emmy for his performance on Walker, Texas Ranger. But seriously, definitely an Oscar
People usually focus on the twist but the entire film is incredible. The funeral scene is so good!
True; the Twist wouldn't have nearly as much "payoff" if the movie itself wasn't't that good.
Last ten minutes are so powerful and moving. M Night peaked there.
I saw this movie already knowing the spoilers and I still loved it.
Not that good, pretty hard to believe actually. If she made a tape of her mother poisoning her. Why didn't she give it to her dad before she died? She wasn't that sick at the time. She still was well enough get up and play with her puppets. She still took the tape out and placed it in a box. She couldn't have done it after she died.
@@stinkbug4321 because she didn't originally make the tape to record the mother, she was recording her puppet plays. Only after she died she realised that she was being poisoned because the mother is poisoning her sister too, and/or only as a ghost she watched the tape to the end and found it out. She can clearly affect the physical world around her, opens up the tent, holds Cole from his ankle, pushes the box etc.
The "I`m ready to communicate with you now" scene in the car is quite possibly one of the best one on one scenes ever filmed in my opinion, as a full grown man of 45 years of age it ALWAYS gets me reaching for something to wipe away the tears...
This film is truly a masterpiece, I was lucky enough to see it in the cinema back in the days before online spoilers were a thing and it absolutely blew my mind!
yeah the acting as absolutely top notch. by all of them. But that kid... Holy crap.
that actors surprise and emotion was legit, real. they only knew they own line, didn't know the others line. the scene was a surprise even for them
@@geang.carneiro3982 oh bullocks.
@@lionhead123Yes, in the car scene the boy knew his line but didn’t know what the mom would say about her question. The mom didn’t know the answer to the question. The director wanted them to hear it for the first time during the filming. He kept the first take in the film. Heard it from the director in an interview.
In my opinion, the two greatest examples of real, gut level acting in this movie: Toni Collette in the car at the end, and Haley Joel Osment telling Bruce Willis his secret. That kid's eyes, voice, that firehose of emotion just shooting out of his face. If you were distracted by anything during that, go back and watch it, hanging onto every nuance -- so worth it! If you aren't at least on the edge of tears with a lump in your throat, something's wrong with you. Same with Toni in the car. You really believe this is _healing_ something in her from when she was a little girl, feeling abandoned by a mom who for whatever reason was failing to praise her. Hearing that her mom was proud of her every day, was like finally getting a glass of water she had been thirsting for, for 30 years. Both of these incredible actors did something that maybe a handful of actors can do: They each brought a new life into this world. Their characters' lives. In these performances. So powerful!
Also, I believe Cole knew from the beginning that Malcolm was dead. From their first meeting to the last, Cole's phrase 'see you' wasn't 'as my doctor' but 'as a ghost'. That's where Cole's idea for Malcolm to talk to his wife came from -- he knew why she wasn't hearing him, and how Malcolm could overcome her defenses, and perhaps more importantly, how he could tell Malcolm how to do it without Malcolm needing to believe this big giant fact about himself that he was choosing to ignore. Even Maple interpreted it as a form of subliminal communication, from a living person. Finally, in not one of these conversations with Malcolm did Cole 'slip up' around other people, who would not have been able to see Malcolm, and allow others to see him speaking with him. Cole knew they couldn't see Malcolm, only he could. Even though Malcolm wasn't very scary, he still gave Cole that feeling of falling inside. And, of course, Cole would have been able to see that giant bleeding exit wound....
The very first scene with cole indicates he knows malcon is a ghost, he sees him across the street and goes running to the church... he was fleeing
Don't forget about Donnie Wahlburg that was a great performance as well.
The last fifteen minutes of this movie is a real tear jerker. From the funeral scene to Malcom and his mom in the car to the end with Bruce and his wife. I cried three times every time I watch this.
@@robertmolton6761 That bit of brilliant casting was totally lost on me! To think that rail-thin, mentally-disturbed-looking guy was Danny from _Blue Bloods!_ Amazing!
The casting surprise for me was that the actress who played Kyra the sunken-eyed vomiting ghost was Mischa Barton! Bit of a departure from some of her other roles.
The only thing I don’t get is why Cole doesn’t try to convince Malcolm he’s dead when he won’t believe his secret. Seems like it would have been easy to just prove it to him.
One of the coolest aspects of this movie ... After the opening scene, no one, other than the kid, talks to Bruce Willis through the entire movie ... but you don't realize that until the end.
Absolutely 👍🏻 and Bruce Willis wears always the same clothes... This movie is perfect
A plot twist that nobody saw coming. Fantastic acting from Haley Joel Osment what an epic film.
Even almost a quarter of a century later apparently. ;)
There are no secrets from me. He was in an episode of the Boys as the Mesmer.
When toward the end of the movie Cole is connecting with his mother and it's clear that they have unconditional love for each other, there's your dog off to the side showing you all the unconditional love in the world! ❤
I always cry when the scene in the car comes, even this time when watching your reaction (actually before, simply in anticipation of the scene). This is my favorite scene of all time.
What I love about this movie is MKS doesn’t fool us. We see Bruce Willis get shot right at the beginning. We fool ourselves cause we can’t believe the star would die that early in the film. A great script brought together by an amazing cast.
I can’t get over how sweet that dog is. Very emotionally receptive. Super sweet! 🥹
that is a gorgeous dog!
Malcom: “I want to be able to talk to my wife again.”
Cole: “HOW are you going to do that?”
(Knowing that Malcom is dead and his wife cannot hear him)
One thing about that is, Cole said it gets cold. Why wasn't his breath visible when he was around Malcolm.
@@stanzaloan3454 Malcolm was not an ANGRY ghost. He was a good person in life and did not realize he had died, still trying to be a good person.
But Cole had other senses to know when ghosts were near, so I am sure that something else about Malcolm tipped Cole off. Several different factors were mentioned; the feeling in the pit of your stomach that you get while falling, even when you are standing still. The prickly feeling on the back of your neck, the hair standing up on your arms...
The thing you gotta realize is this story is shot and set in Philadelphia, one of the oldest cities in America. IMAGINE how many generations have lived and died in this city since colonial times! And the brick houses, like one broken into apartments including the apartment Cole and his mom lives in, so many people have lived, suffered, and died there...
People initially view this film as Malcolm's story. Now that you know Cole knew all along that Malcolm was dead, try watching it as Cole's story. Much more poignant.
Imagine him in, say, Rome. Thousands of years of dead people to see. Don’t go to the Colosseum Cole.
The colour red is used to symbolize things connected to or touched by the ghosts. Look at all the buildings. Most of them are built with red brick.
@@dnish6673 meeting real gladiators? that would be so cool.
Sixth sense is such a great movie, easily Shymalan's best work. On a rewatch you get to understand why it's easy to miss the misdirection nuggets placed within the movie. They are pretty much made to be unnoticeable even when you are looking for them. So Awesome.
Agreed! I don't think any of his other work comes close.
One of the movies I did not just watch once.
Shyamalan peaked way too early. He will never top this movie.
This is my second favorite of his behind Unbreakable. I think Signs and The Village are pretty underrated too, he definitely peaked too early.
I caught one just recently. only one shadow when they open the door to the girls room.
A lot of people miss this, but that handprint he left during the kitchen scene at the beginning indicates Cole had kept his hands there for awhile, meaning he couldn’t have been walking around opening the cabinets
The handprint was too big and widespread to be from Cole's hand. That's why she looked so confused.
@@chiefsteps-in-poo8447 The hand print is Cole's. It's to show he was under immense fear (palms sweat when one is under stress or fear). You can see his hands firmly on the table at 6.56. The condensation makes the print look bigger, but the print is unquestionably Cole's.
@@nurfnurder
Gotcha. Thanks. Cool handle, by the way.
And I was one of those people. Thanks for explaining what it meant.
@@THOMMGB
I just thought the cabinets were too high for Cole to reach.
I still spend a lot of this movie with tears rolling down my face. Haley Joel Osmet was absolutely BRILLIANT in his depiction of Cole. I almost feel physical pain watching him play this role. Toni Collette was just as good as his mother, and Bruce Willis was incredible too. And you NEVER saw that twist coming in the theaters, though in retrospect it was suddenly SO FREAKING OBVIOUS. Such an amazing movie. 11 out of 10.
I think this is _the_ best movie to see people react to.
The first visual ghost in the robe walking across the frame is one of my favorite jump scares ever. So simple, but so chilling
I wonder how many people went back to the theater to see this for a second time. To see what they missed the first time....lol
Donnie Wahlburg plays a small part, but damn it's such a powerful seen. He even lost a lot of weight in preparation for the role. The transformation was amazing I didn't even recognize him the first time I watched it. I said damn the "bad boy" of New Kids on the Block is killing it as an actor. He also has played a detective on the long running show Blue Bloods and he's great in that as well.
He also played Carwood Lipton in "The Band of Brothers" miniseries. He is a very good actor.
The dog checking up on you everytime you seem upset 🥰
17:37 That's M. Night Shyamalan! He always has a cameo in ALL his movies- like Hitchcock/Stan Lee, etc- although his role is usually more than just 1 line.
His best role IMO was that scene in the car that he did in 'Signs'.
That kid did such a phenomenal acting job
It's amazing how he went from a sad/emotional scene to a shocker scene. Brilliant.
Donny Walhberg was ABSOLUTELY Spectacular in this movie!
Maple: Bruce Willis.
Me: Hell yeah, Bruce Willis! Get excited, gurl!!
Maple: I feel like I should know who that is.
Me: 🤯 The actual fuck????
“Hi this is Maple. Welcome back to Diet Jesus!”
Great reaction Maple. It's fascinating to see people are so concerned for Haley Joel Osmith as a kid in the presence of a ghost they completely bypass the fact that Bruce Willis is one of the ghosts he's seeing. Since Bruce Willis is so friendly and helpful and we perceive usually ghosts to be scary and foreboding. So it leads to the viewer ignoring many of the subtle hints that are being laid throughout the movie.
yeah dude like we even bypassed the fact that Bruce Willis was wearing the same outfit throughout the movie which was right in front of us too
Haley joel Osment is potentially the greatest child actor of all time.
i also love the addition of maples emotional support doggo
Jaden Smith takes that title. Jaden has way more accomplishments.
@@TheHawkman2132 That was very corny. Will smith has enough money to buy your entire generation, past present and future. Slap or not. What is your net worth? You can't afford to make corny jokes, you are THE laughing matter.
@@TheHawkman2132 any other corny jokes?
@@angelminaj617 Like what? Osment won an award for this movie and was nominated for a bunch of others. What has Jane’s Smith been nominated for (other than a Razzie)? Are you thinking that he did more movies? Made some as an adult? Well, in that case, ever hear of Jodie Foster? Anna Paquin? Joseph Gordon Levitt? Emma Watson? Natalie Portman?
@@dnish6673 I'll toss in Tatum O'Neil and Shirley Temple.
The color red played a big part of the movie. The red balloon, mother who poisoned her daughter wore red dress and the door knob was red.
This is exactly the reaction anyone wants to see on others face after watching the movie.... This movie is wholesome❤
Loved your reaction to his words to her at the end. Your tear made me cry. And I don't know how many times I've seen this movie! Love your dog too!
wow.... just great film making... even reacting to the reaction got into me at the end.... so lucky to get to see this in theaters when it launched ! just great
And you go through the whole film thinking his wife is an uncaring bitch whose cheating on him under his nose. Then you realise she's a grieving young widow struggling to get on with her life. And now she can, because everything will be different in the morning....
Toni Collette is probably one of the best gyms in terms of quality acting that I've seen in any form of motion pictures her performances are so natural that I'm not even sure if she knows that they're just acting she brings a level of realism to her acting that just elevate her performance Beyond comprehension. If you haven't seen it already it's probably on the suggestions right now but one of her best horror films she's ever done is Hereditary. Toni Collette owned that entire film.
She's crazy talented. She brings it and owns every role. When Cole was locked in the closet at that birthday party and she was hitting the closet, she turned and made this quick gesture and face I can't describe. I think it's at 17:21 here. She's truly incredible.
All she needs is a few minutes and she steals the movie! Watch The hours...amazing!!!❤
Now you know what an M Night Shyamalan twist is. Welcome to the club. Now go watch it again.
Awww Toby saw you were crying and came to you just wanted to make sure you are okay. So sweet.
Very powerful scene in the car, near the end. I guess the rainbow / halo effect she saw next to Cole in all the family photos was actually her dead mum watching over him? And did his grandma unlock the door of the cupboard he was stuck in?
We do love to watch other people loving the movies we love!
The Others (2001) with Nicole Kidman is another you really can't skip!
Great reaction Maple loved seeing your dog again.❤️
The Sixth sense is a great great ghost movie love it, Keep up your great work.
Toni Collette does American accents so well. I was shocked when I learned she is Australian.
Dude she might be the most underrated actress of all time.
Her first fairly big movie - Muriel’s Wedding - is awesome. It’s totally Aussie
I love this movie, its one of the coolest films ever, awesome twist and very underrated. Love Maple's reactions. Please have her react to 'The Others" with Nicole Kidman.
Yes, Yes and Yes. "The Others".
I snapped my head around so hard when she said she feels like she should know who Bruce Willis is I think somethin popped out of place. That ain’t right man.
The way our parents feel when we don't know a second-tier star from the 50s!
exactly
We're getting old, I guess.. And I'm only 30. Lol
@@maxducoudray Bruce Willis is a second tier star? Yea, OK.
@@profd65 Yeah, first tier is people like Tom Hanks or Tom Cruise. People who are remembered beyond their generation. A very small group.
4:38 - When you put your glasses on. LOL!!!!! That was epic. Thanks for another great reaction
If any movie needs a rewatch it's this one. If only to see how incredibly blatant the clues are. I mean Cole is looking _right at him_ when he says "I see dead people".
He looks at him cause he's talking to him. It's not that weird to look at someone you're talking to.
@@Diegesis Of course not. That's my point. He literally explains the entire plot of the movie, but because it has a more ordinary explanation you miss it, just like the dozens of other similar scenes.
And you realize that the whole time they're together, Cole sees him with a bloody gunshot wound.
@@dr.burtgummerfan439 the wound is covered by the clothes.
It really came together nice. I enjoyed watching the editing process and then the finished product. I don't think many have any idea of the hours and hours required for such an outstanding finished product. Outstanding Job!
Thank you very much! It's quite time consuming haha
Maple I enjoy all of your reactions and jump scares. This is a wonderful movie. Brilliantly done. I wish more movies had as many twists as this one. Very emotional ending Thank you. Looking forward to another one. Stay well.
Signs is another great one by this director, one thing I've only recently noticed is that he was in this movie as the customer in the shop when malcom smashes the shop window. He also is in signs I'm assuming he has a cameo or a role in all of his movies I could be wrong but I'm seeing a pattern
yeah he's in all of his movies.
As the great Alfred Hitchcock & Stan Lee did!
Your dog Tommy seems very emotionally attentive to you and came at maybe the first scary moment and then when were you crying! What a sweet boy!
I was 9 when this came out and my mom wouldn't let me see it so she just told me everything and spoiled it lol still mad at her about it!
Great movie! Can't wait to see Maple's reaction :D
Missed because it was released the same year as Sixth Sense is a fantastic movie by Kevin Bacon called "Stir of Echoes", definitely worth a watch!!! :)
Stir Of Echoes definitely one to watch as well.
Just getting to watch this ...
Maple: "Bruce Willis ... I feel like I should know who that is ... "
Me: "🤯🤯💔😭😭😭😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣"
You'd think the red dress at a funeral would be a tell ... 😡😡
36:23 I'm no doctor, but I'm pretty sure the dark blood in Malcolm's exit wound is a sign that a vital organ was hit.
Love how she laughed the whole movie .....oh my brother just died ...whahahahaha
Great to see Maple's reaction to this great film.
The guy who shoots the doctor in the beginning was played by Donnie Wahlberg of The New Kids On The Block!
It was played by Donnie. Brother of Mark. I'm assuming you just got the names mixed up
The subtitles say that suicide ghost’s husband is Neddy, but I’m 100% certain she’s saying LENNY!
thank you! you are 100% right. a slight pet peeve of mine when the subtitles are wrong.
Great reaction, Maple and Autumn are simply adorable. Looking forward to the deep dive.
23:10 "My mom filmed the wrong kid the whole time." 😂😂😂
Beautiful doggo! I love the way she always looks after you.
Aww, dawggie! 😀 That alone makes the reaction all worthwhile.
That said, this was a great reaction to a very interesting film. Good work!
I was lucky enough to watch this on opening night at The Metreon here in San Francisco. 1999 doesn't feel that long ago...
"Welcome back to Diet Jesus" ...I can't unhear it, and now, neither can you lmao 🤣
seeing this in theater when this came put was quite a experience. I pick up on individuals energy heavy and sometimes in this experience I remember is was very haunting. I had a slight feeling something was off with Bruce's character. it's a great film. I've lost a lot of friends in my time and idk watching this reaction and watching the film after x amount of years it hit me a certain way. nothing against you guys I love what you guys do on your channel. just watching the film struck me a certain way. felt like I was watching it for the first time just in a differen5 age bracket if that makes sense ❤
"Yeah, put it together man."
🤣🤣🤣
You have a very caring dog. You are blessed.
I went on a cruise after seeing this movie. We went around saying: “I see old people!”
"Dead people" still would've worked

Incredible movie but I'm also amazed your little doggie is watching over you making sure you're doing ok. Now that is friendship.
Ok your doggie is so adorable! One of the greatest thriller movies in history.
Love your reactions girl
In my generation, the two biggest plot twists that kept people talking for weeks were The empire Strikes Back, and The Sixth Sense.
Bruce Willis is from the Die-hard franchise not to mention other movie's and the Great child actor is Haley Joel Osment
You should see him when he was really young in Forest Gump starring Tom Hanks
Perhaps the greatest twist ending in cinema history.
have you seen The Others? It has a great twist as well!
Your Aussie looks so much like mine, so adorable!
I enjoy your reactions.. please keep posting videos
I saw this movie when I was 10 and it scared the living shit out of me. Took years to realize that it's actually a beautiful horror masterpiece.
Awesome reaction!!!
Best movie reveal EVER I still remember my reaction in the movies
You thought the kid was cute. You should see him today. Such a beautiful man.
"I love Cats the musical!"
That's a big ol' nope from me!
It's interesting. I've seen a few movie reactors with dogs and when they get scared or emotional about something the dog comes to try to comfort them.
I saw this at the theater the night it came out. When it got to the part when his wedding ring fell on the floor and everyone realized BW was dead, you could literally hear every jaw in the room hit the floor.
Another thing, not saying you're old but you're not a kid. How do you not know who Bruce Willis is? The Diehard series, The Fifth Element, Blind Date (that one's kind of old) and so many others my brain can't name any more because I'm so confused that you don't know him.
Please, ease my perplexed mind and tell me you were just joking around.
M Night added pops of red to scenes that had to do with ghost and death. For example the bday scene the red balloon that flies up to the room, the stairs carpet that leads up to the room. You can see these pops of red through out the movie ei, clothing, his little tent, doors, door knobs, the handle to the box with the video and more. I'll let you watch again and find more.
The scariest thing is that Toni Collette (mom) hasnt won a Oscar yet.
You notice something different every time you watch a movie. And this was just another example. I've watched this movie at least 10 times and seen about 20-30 reactions to it and I just picked up something I never had before. At the beginning when Anna is in the cellar there's a moment where she pauses and peers behind her as she's grabbing a bottle of wine. If you listen closely you can hear the glass breaking from Vincent breaking in.
Nominated for 6 Oscars including Best Picture but lost to American Beauty.
It was the second highest grossing Horror film, making $679 million dollars at the box office.
The twist ending was on Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments.
Yes the Julie Andrews line was about The Sound of Music.
Saw doggo pressed like. Now on to the reaction
Now that I watch it again, no wonder that kid didn't want to talk to him, the kid knew that was a ghost
I love to see everyone's reactions when the big reveal comes. some figure it out early so that ruins it.
I was terrified she'd figure it out
37:57 trying to keep your shit together and the dog is oblivious. Dogs got it so good lol.
Fun fact the boy in the movie is the voice actor for Sora for Kingdom Hearts
M. Night Shyamalan has done some great movies, on the other hand he did The Last Airbender movie.
30:45 You dog can see that you are upset about something, and she wants to help.
It blows my mind that we call an unpleasant woman a "bitch" when that is what a female dog is called. There is nothing unpleasant about your dog. Your dog loves you and she knows when you are upset, and that makes her upset.
That story about your mom and the play was epic!
Awwwww omg the doggie is beautiful just like their momma!!! ;)
It is a wide known fact in the paranormal community that a sudden drop of temperature in a room maybe an indicator of a disembodied spirit. Each time you see the little boys breath comes out that means he's very very close to a ghost.
Strong use of the word "fact"
He has beautiful camera angles and shots
The major hint in this movie that nobody sees (including me) is that he wore the same clothes he had on when he was shot through the entire movie. As Sherlock Holmes once said. 'You see, but you do not observe'.
part of the problem is movies arent real life so when you see something funny it's easier to brush it off as movie magic
