- At the time of filming, this may be the only review on CZcams on the CZC A01-LD. One video shows the pistol shooting and one at Shot Show, but no reviews that I could find. Thanks to Chris at Point Blank in Carmel, IN for lending me his pistol for this review.
This pistol could very well be the unicorn of the CZ world. Built in the U.S. from scratch at CZ Custom, the A01 is the evolution of the Shadow series. It is also a pistol that was made for competition and fun…

The barrel is 9.25"?! That's insane! 🤣
+2S1L3NT oh boy, good catch. The barrel is 4.925 inches. I went back and reviewed my notes and noticed that I simply didn’t type the number “4“. Then, I must’ve read my notes like a parrot. Thanks for catching that and for watching. I appreciate it.
Lol I was like 8 inch overall length and 9.25 inch barrel I was like how ?
They should have watched their own video before putting it on utube. Nice going fellas. What else is out of specs?
@@robertmajcher3061 OMG he made a mistake takes two seconds to confirm the barrel length I have one and the rest of his discussion is good to go.
I have 38 or 40 CZs, all full frame. No polymer ones. I bought my A01 LD 2 yrs ago when they first came out in 9mm. Wow it is insane! I liked it so much I had CZC custom make me one in 357 sig!! I love it!

+Big Johnson Guns and Gear - thanks for watching Brother!
The best pistol in my mini arsenal, even better than my P210 target and 1911s, and that is saying something. I’d like to pick up the carry version but need another winning lottery ticket 😂
It can be awesome but in my experience it has been hit or miss. This video was filmed sometime ago and since there has been quite a few reliability issues. Thank you very much for stopping by.
I just purchased one I love it After watching the video convince me more about it thank you for you video
You are most welcome and congratulations. It’s a sweet pistol. Thank you for watching!
I own one and absolutely love it! Nice review.
Congratulations. It is outstanding. Thank you for watching!
Just got one. It is amazingly accurate and the trigger is spectacular - especially in SA. I did however have a few stove pipes during my first day at the range. Cleaned and lubed it, and I’ll be back with better ammo. Hopefully that’s not a problem.
Congratulations! You got yourself a fantastic firearm. I found that at the beginning it likes heavier ammo like 124 grain or heavier. I did have some problems with 115 grain. Zero issues after shooting about 200 rounds of a heavier ammo. Now it eats everything. Thank you very much for watching!
If you look up that problem you can find info about putting a different pound spring in it to correct the problem. I did it and it has been flawless since. I’m not near my gun and don’t remember what it was or I’d let you know.
Just subscribed dude amazing review 💯

@@MDpolo I have several CZ and Tanfoglio pistols in either 9mm or 10mm, including the Shadow 2 (amazingly accurate pistol), a TS 2 Racing Green (also an amazingly accurate pistol), and several others (Tanfo Limited Master, Stock 1, 2, and 3). I'm hoping that this A01 LC will impress me, because all of the other CZ and Tanfo pistols I have shoot identical, right exactly where I point them. I do have a question though. With the fixed rear sight, where was the point of impact the first time you shot it and at what distance? Thanks!

@@MichaelDavitt1 where?
Thanks for the vid! Does this gun come with a factory test target like the Shadow Target 2? Do you find any difference in the accuracy between the two of them? I wonder why no adjustable rear sight on this one, even though it's more expensive. It seems like the sight picture is pretty much the same for both, so I wonder why CZC went with not having the option to adjust on this one. Lastly, do they have the same front sight? Or does one of them have a front sight with a fiber optic with larger radius? Thanks a lot!!
They don't have adjustable because they are less prone to breakage or losing zero and yes they come with an actual test Target not a computer-generated one and as far as accuracy goes it'll shoot one hole at 25 yards it'll shoot one inch at 50 . The CZ Shadow 2 is a very nice gun but it's not a custom gun it is a production gun.
Did you have a chance to shoot Beretta 92X Performance and what do you think in comparison to something like this?
Phenom - I have not gotten my hands on the Beretta 92x but I’d love to do so. Working on it... Thanks for watching.
So is this the frame the DWX is being built on? I saw it was steel but took the P09 mags, wondered where they were going with this.
Looks like it. Not 100% sure.
Cheaper mags more capacity. Good move
Thanks!!!
You are welcome.
Nice pistol!
Bought the shadow2 and fully cajunized from bottom to the berral bushing, somewhat to an accu shadow2 .Than I purchase the a01 ld

I'm thinking of picking up the A01 Compact. My local range has two for sale as well as one A01LD. I'm just on the fence about their $2270 asking price. I'm finding several full size A01s in the $1900 to $2000 range but no Compacts. The Compact is also quite heavy. I had my TSO when I compared it and the Compact is probably in the mid 30 ounce to 40 ounce range. Still thinking this over.
It really depends what you feel comfortable carrying weight wise. For me, that’s just too heavy to carry comfortable all day. Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment.
Great review! They just released new grips that'll work with CZ75 mags.
Cool. Thanks for watching!
Nice review! I love them CZ .
I checked out one at my LGS, the balance was off and heavy on the front. My Shadow2 is a bit the same but not as much. The Tanfoglio tend to be more balanced. Great video the magazine was a surprise, like the DWX full size.
You are correct. They are a bit heavy on the front but surprisingly they shoot very flat. I have not shot a Tanfoglio, but the Phoenix Redback is perfectly balanced. Thank you for watching!
I noticed that too when I checked out the A01 LD today. Really nose heavy. The TSO is actually better balanced. I was surprised how heavy the A01 Compact version is as well.
@@AllanG1914 Have you seen an A01 LD compact? I'm looking for one. But you say the compact is nose heavy too or just heavy? Not like a P10C that you can feel or rent before you buy... in most cases.

I have not done a full review on the Sphinx Duty. I have an earlier video showing the custom sights that I had installed on mine. Perhaps I’ll get around to making a full review on it. Thank you so much for your kind words and I really appreciate you watching.
I bought one of these yesterday. While I was at the store, I tried a CZ75 mag in the gun. It clicked in and I slid the slide to the rear and it locked back. Normally that tells me the mag will work, but have not had a chance to fire it yet. I thought my Shadow 2 was smooth, but this gun takes it up several notches.
Yea it does accept CZ 75 mags and it truly is a very nice pistol. Have you seen my “facelift” video on it? Thanks for watching!
@@MDpolo Accepting CZ75 mags is the best of both worlds. I have a bunch of CZ75 mags, but only 4 P-09 mags and 2 P-07 mags. I love CZ's. I have 10, one .45 and 9 9mm's

Just curious as to how it's considered a unicorn. They're being made virtually every day. Obviously not in bulk, but still...
Yes, you are correct in that they are in current production. However, most people don’t know about them, most gun shops don’t sell them (or know about their existence) and CZC is not making that many of them every day. Thanks for watching.
The unicorn phrase to a gun refers to the rarity in a fine fine quality handgun this gun is rivaled by very few there not made any better then this particular gun hes reviewing this guns a thing of absolutely outstanding in its design quality looks feel ergonomics performance you name it this blaster has it going on man absolutely fu%@$G outstanding simpley put......... they pulled out all the stops in this guns manufacturing it's what all handguns should be and what others wish they could be most metal cz handguns are just phenomenal but this one in particular stands completely ALONE!!! it is just as he stated the rare and elusive UNICORN! for certain they got this gun completely right every way shape and form. PERIOD.... and the price is high indeed it is but in life like everything handguns included you get what you pay for.... and in this handgun is just not!!! rivaled my many if any at all...... I thought my cz shadow 75 bullseye 9mm was the ~ beez ~ neez man and it's a phenomenal handgun no doubt about it however when I got the opportunity to run one of these unicorn A01 customs like in this review I almost shat myself brother it is ever everything and more this gentleman reviewing it has stated if you're a gun lover as much as I am and you ever ever have a opportunity to close the deal and acquire this handgun I strongly urge you to do so you will never ever regret that decision.. I just seen one pop up on. www. armslist.com last month here in Cincinnati ohio and the add was posted 4 hrs before I inquired about purchasing it and sure enough it had already sold 2400.00 dollars yes it is a hell of a lot of money for a single handgun but I'd still bought it and I'm still looking for another one to come along so you say there somehow not rare and there being mass produced everyday of the week id sure like to know where there all ended up because they sure in hell ain't going to Cincinnati ohio! I know that I because I've been Looking looking and looking for another o e this has been over a year long search for me and I've came across only 1 and recently is the first I've seen hence partially the reason. Behind it being deemed the unicorn yes there rare and I assure you they are definitely not being bass produced in the country anywhere. Hard pistol to find. Very hard dont believe me find o e then. Lol as a matter of fact if you're capa5 of locating me a excellent condition CZA01 / the unicorn. Lol. So, not an adjustable rear sight and not milled for optics? So if the sight is inaccurate, I would have to push the site manually? For $200 less why not the CZ 75 Tactical Sports Orange that comes WITH an adjustable sight AND has the optional L bracket for optics/red dot and a sub 2 pound trigger. What am I missing? Why pay more for less? What did I miss?
+Pierre Kerbage - You are correct about the CZ Tac Orange. I own it and like it quite a bit. What did you miss you ask. Well, if you not held, handled and shot an A01-LD, that’s what you missed. The hand fitting of the pistol, the smoothness of the slide tracking, the feel of the trigger pull. It’s just different and a step above the CZ Tac Orange. However, this is nothing more than my opinion. The Tac Orange is a fantastic pistol as well and If you own that, many congratulations. I recently uploaded a new video on the A01-LD. Thanks for watching.
@@MDpolo I do own the TSO and just added the P10F because of its optics. Your point is valid. Sounds like a well made gun. Just wished it had at least adjustable sights or was optics ready at that price range. Might still consider it though. Perhaps someone will develop at least an adjustable sight. I have astigmatism which means that without some adjustment, I will never hit center. And that's important to me. With my aging eyes, I gravitate around the guns today that have both. Like the SIG sauer Legion P226 RX SAO which has a good red dot cowitnessed with a great night sight and an impeccable trigger. I love both. That's the problem. Lol 😁
Good points and I agree. Keep in mind that this is a CZ Custom shop pistol. So I an adjustable rear sight is important to you, it is very easy to order it that way. You have good taste in pistols sir!
@@MDpolo Thank you
There are other downsides I could see as far as owning this gun long term. This gun is marketed as a high end competition gun. They took away the barrel bushing design from the 75b, SP01, and Shadow series. It's the pinned one and they ended up replacing it with a bull barrel design. Yes I can understand that it is tight, right out of the box. If you put a lot of rounds through this gun, over time that bull barrel near the muzzle is going to loosen up from wear and it will affect accuracy down the road. Who's to say if one can buy a replacement bull barrel. Maybe, maybe not. I've seen CZ Custom come out with several differen't "custom designs" that are no longer around anymore. And if a gun does pop up, it was because they made 10 of those guns that year. They should have at least maybe did the ACCU bushing on this gun. Even then CZ Custom doesn't offer the option to purchase additional ACCU bushings.
CZ custom has come out with 2 different types of the ACCU bushing. One that screws in, and latest one that slides in like a 1911 bushing.
The other issue I see is how the sights are mounted to the gun. Front and Rear dovetail sights. Say goodbye to aftermarket sights. Unless you're okay with just buying differen't rear sights. That is unless the rear dovetail is a different cut when compared to say the CZ75b, the P-09, or the P10 series.
This is pretty much a novelty gun. I am sure it's real nice to shoot, but I also want aftermarket support as far as sights and parts go.
The DA trigger on the A01 is better than most SA triggers.
It is pretty sweet. Thank you for watching.
I think I need one of these in my life. A gun shop 90 miles away has a new one for $2,330
When you’re looking at spending that kind of money, I would really start considering a Phoenix Redback. As you know, it’s all personal preference, but I own both and if I could only keep one it would be the Redback. Thank you for watching.

Congratulations. It is a sweet pistol. Thanks for watching!
The A01 is a sweet (DA/SA) duty pistol/range toy, but for pure competition the (SAO) Tactical Sport Orange is a BETTER choice IMHO. The safety on this gun was a deal-breaker for me. If you want to take it up a notch for competition, go with the CZ Czechmate, albeit for considerably more money. There's a reason the A01-LD is eligible for LE/MIL discount where the TSO is NOT. So for competition pistol/range toy...the CZ TSO all day long over the A01..
What about the safety makes it a deal breaker? Shadow 2 also has a safety.
All the pistols that you mention are absolutely fantastic. It boils down to purpose of use and personal preference.

+iPANZERSCHRECKu - sort of. Stay tuned for the next video. The A01-LD got a facelift....
@@MDpolo Looking forward to see what it looks like and that single action trigger sounds naughty...to me it's just a bit sad that it seems you can't change out the beaver tail for a more sculpted out one when there seems to be room under the small hammer. I guess when the beaver tail is not part of a 1911 style grip safety then it's permanent. I really like a higher purchase on a gun and to creep as for up on the grip as possible to get a lower bore axis - why I have the Steyer M9. Sadly Steyer refuses to make high capacity mags for competition and the after market ones are pure garbage. I was hoping this $2K gun was a $5K STI bargain - but no... still looks tempting though.. Imagine if they put that trigger in the 97B and made it double stack 45 with an extended mag for competition...
The A01-LD as it sits is not very customizable as far as the frame is concerned. However, CZC can customize it to your taste and needs when you order one.
Regarding the Steyr pistol, have you seen the new A2-MF? It is amazing. I’m waiting for the M size to come out. I currently own the L1 and M1 and totally love them. I hear you regarding the higher capacity mags for them. May I suggest that you reach out to a gun channel by TN Steyr. He’s an expert on Steyr weapons and a very good guy. His channel link is: czcams.com/channels/xYZhApxTJLjMkCNEYyVS0Q.html please let him know that I sent you.
This A01-LD is an amazing pistol but it is not at the level of a $5k pistol. Have you seen the competition pistol that QVO Tactical put together? Check it out. The owner of QVO Tactical is Roger (another good guy). For under $2k he put together an amazing competition pistol. He also makes amazing holsters.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. The facelift video uploads tomorrow evening.
@@MDpolo Yes I've seen the MF online and I really like the modular concept. With that being said I think that most modular guns will only have one configuration in use. Same goes for the SIG P320. Not many MFs out there, they're not on gunbroker and believe there's only one or two in private hands outside Steyr as of now. My problem with the A2 is that it's the large frame L9 size and there's not yet any modular frames available like different sizes. I've tried contacting my local FFL some time ago and there were no actual guns available. Steyr didn't have an answer when other frames were coming or what if any frames or configurations would be available. I think Steyr is either having real trouble in manufacturing or having real trouble with the ATF over the trigger pack being the gun itself. Apparently Steyr had some real issues with the early M9/L9 guns but I've never had any issue with my later gen one.
@@MDpolo Actually I have already "spoken" to TN Steyr and his response was to go into direct defensive mode as if he's a democrat politician having his son exposed being involved in Ukrainian corruption scandal. I commented that I wished Steyr would make large capacity mags so we can use the M9 effectively in competition. I've tried one after market one and it failed spectacularly. Maybe he got real offended and defensive because he recommends and I think sells after market mags. Didn't buy my one from him though. He replied that "isn't 17 enough?" and implied that it was ludicrous and unthinkable that anyone would need a larger mag than 17...well I've tried using the M9 in a local competition and matches that's being designed around a large capacity mag is an automatic loss. I can't see why Steyr can't produce large capacity mags when Glock is able to do so. I understand that there's some import ATF restrictions for gun companies with large mags but somehow other manufacturers manage to do so. I don't think it's preposterous to imagine a larger capacity than 17 but I totally get that you can't sell large capacity mags in all states so Steyr is having trouble dealing with all the legal issues and liabilities.
The barrel is 9 inches long?? It doesn’t look that long at all. Did he say is weighs 51oz? LOL holy smokes now I really want one.
He was citing the overall length of the gun; not the barrel length. The barrel length is 4.25 inches.
Thank you
