Andrea Yates is one of the saddest story of postpartum psychosis ever!!! She was basically forced to keep having kids because of her husband’s religion. Once she was diagnosed and told to never get pregnant again her spouse ignored doctors warnings!!!

Her doctors kept telling them to not have anymore children as it was CLEARLY affecting her mental health. Very sad story. Prison was never the proper answer. Apparently she was a wonderful, loving mother and the memories will forever haunt her.
She would also hide in the closet to keep from harming her kids, but it didn't work. She had serious depression. 😭
I was going to mention this part of it. It was horrifying what happened to her, and because of that, what happened to her kids. Her husband, of course, is free.
Andrea Yates had a history of postpartum depression and doctors told her and her husband she should have no more babies. Her husband insisted that, according to his religious beliefs, it was her duty as a wife to have more babies and it was her job, not his, to care for all of them no matter how she felt. I always felt he should be charged as an accessory to the children's death. Instead, he divorced Andrea, remarried, and his new wife kept pumping out babies.

I agree with you. Rusty Yates should have been charged as an accessory to murder. Those poor kids died and Andrea endured torment just because he liked seeing that his gonads were in working order. I don't buy for a second that his 'religion' was the sole motive for his insistence that she keep pumping out kids even after a doctor said it needed to stop.
He did nothing wrong.
@@fluffylittlebear He committed negligent homicide. They were both told her mental state. They were told not to have more kids but he insisted. Everyone knew she was dangerous and suicidal and was not supposed to be left unattended and she was. They left her alone for a short time and that’s when she did it.
BTW, She keeps denying the hearings for her own release from the hospital.

The Gabriel Hernandez story will forever haunt me, the hospital staff that examined him were in tears due to the extensive damage done to that poor child’s body. Monsters!
When my daughter was born, I thought she was the prettiest thing I had ever seen. 33 years later and I still marvel at the gift that God gave me.
The second one, the murder of Gabriel Fernandez, was horrific. I won't describe the torture he endured, but it was beyond imagination. It was all because the mom's boyfriend thought the child was gay. Social workers also notified several times, as were police, and he was never removed from their care.
That one really hurt me, it's so messed up.
I watched the documentary about Gabriel on Netflix a few years ago and it's still haunting me. How helpless must he have felt during this horrendous time with no single adult on his side.
Usually if you commit a murder in the US and are court ordered into a mental health facility you are there until you are deemed competent. Once you are competent you will go to trial for your crime. If you are never deemed competent you will not leave.
It’s extra horrific because mothers are supposed to care and protect children. For me, that’s why these stories are so unbelievable. It’s like they have to have a mental defect to even think of these atrocities. Diane Downs was a straight up psychopath.
What's off about Diane Down's face is that your instinct knows her smile is fake. When a person is genuinely smiling, their eyes wrinkle at the outer corners, like her husband. Her mouth is smiling but her eyes are not and our brain recognizes that, even if we don't. Love your channel.

Yeah she’s a psychopath trying to mimic human emotions. They can do it but it’s almost always off in some way if you really pay attention.

I know right. Idk why but hearing or seeing him swear is funny and entertaining to me because he usually never does. So whenever he does swear, I just smile. Idk why. 😅
Most women, including myself, are so protective of our children that we turn into "mama bears" concerning our children. It's hard to fathom that there are those out there who abuse and kill their children. It makes me feel ill. 😢
After Andrea Yates had her fourth child her doctor told her husband that they should not have more children because the effect it was having on her mentally. But what does a husband do? He gets her pregnant again. Now all five of his children are dead when he could’ve prevented it by getting a vasectomy.
He got remarried and had more kids. Truly a disgusting man
I do have a bit of sympathy for Andrea because of the mental illness, but at the same time, she made the choice to drown the kids. As for him, well....maybe he should have listened to the doctors about Andrea's mental health. But it was not him that made the choice to drown the kids
I worked in family crimes and shook so hard, I couldn't get food or drink in my mouth!!!! I was so disturbed!!! I asked to be removed! I couldn't even write the reports. I am a mom and the cases were so disturbing that I was left crying with my friend who worked at the morgue, cleaning up the scenes. We spent evenings questioning our jobs! There are some people who do belong in hell! And there are others that simply need help. It's heartbreaking.
It's terrible when anyone is murdered but being able to kill a kid is just so unbelievably evil. And to kill your own babies is something that I will never be able to really understand.
I would gladly give my life for my daughter's life without a single thought.
The same goes for my little niece.
As awful as it is I guess that some people just don't have those protective instincts and instead have something very dark and evil inside of them.
All of these stories break my heart for these kids and that picture of that little boy hugging the police officer with tears streaming down his face just so desperate to be safe and to be loved and then knowing that he met with such a horrific fate after that absolutely crushed me. I just hope that these kids are able to rest in peace and have the love that they deserved when they were alive.
The parents on the other hand can rot in hell.
Andrea Yates husband is the one that should be in jail. He was warned not to get her pregnant, he refused her to have her medication and then, even though he was told not to, he left her alone with the children while she was in the middle of (for lack of better words) and episode. He should have been put away for negligence at the least and I have no doubt that he was abusing her.
As someone earlier said, of the Cotton woman in the 1800s, people were still dying all the time back then. Plus arsenic poisoning mimics several diseases, like cholera and typhoid, extremely common. Or any serious gastric problems. The first test for detecting it was in the early 1830s, but death was such a fact of life, people didn't suspect anything many, many times. I mean, lots of children died before their first birthdays, or before they were teens, of lots of causes. Adults were a bit more resistant to diseases, but something like cholera, you could get sick in the morning, be dead by night. Vomiting, diarrhea, and/or severe stomach pain covers a lot of ills. Appendicitis, for instance. And arsenic was sold over the counter, with no records kept. You could buy quite a few poisons from a pharmacy back in the day with few questions asked, and most households kept some around to poison rodents. Not to mention it being used in makeup, or taken in small doses to give a lovely, fashionable paleness to the skin, for quite some time; and to make a new green color for wallpaper in Victorian times. Having some wasn't suspicious for a long time. After all, these were the days when many tonics and patent medicines contained lots of laudanum (a derivative of opium), used for nerves, womens' troubles, colicky babies, or ones who wouldn't sleep, depression, and almost any other ill you could think of. And heroin was cooked up as a cure for morphine addiction!

By law in the United States a death sentance is automatically appealed once to ensure that the criminal was given adequate legal representation during their trial. This is to help prevent someone from being wrongly executed for a crime they did not commit. Sadly there have still been people executed who have been later proven innocent.
If someone truly has a mental disability that was a contributing factor to them acting out violently, I agree with putting them in a mental health facility. It should be for life, for sure, and never be freed. Obviously not safe to have them in public. But if they themselves are mentally handicapped and incapable of going about life normally, then they're a victim as well of their disability. They should never be allowed in public again for obvious safety reasons, but they also should be getting the care they need (and should have had long ago.)
Andrea Yates can be safely back in society as long as she can never get pregnant again. Postpartum psychosis is real, and it is deadly - but it can be cured and then prevented by never getting pregnant again. If I remember correctly, though, she doesn't ever want to be released. She blames and punishes herself daily. Truly sad story.

Andrea Yates suffered from Postpartum after each child so badly the doctor told them not to have more children. The husband said they were going to have as many children as " God wanted". After the last child the doctor said do not leave her alone. She can not tell the difference between reality and fantasy. Again the family ignored him.
I just think of all the women out there who try there whole life to have children and are not able to concieve, who all they want is a child of their own to love and cherish and these horrible women who treat the blessings they were given so horribly and grotesquely. Its just so enraging and so sad at the same time. The worst crime in the world is hurting a child and these cases the children were hurt by the person who is supposed to love them most and protect them. sick.
Belle Gunness got away with it because they didn’t realize what she was doing until they found the bodies on her farm. And they thought one of the bodies on the farm was her so they didn’t look for her to hold her legally accountable. It wasn’t until years later that people started to question whether or not that body was actually hers.
I remember Susan Smith. Her description was so stereotypical I didn't believe her. She's a piece of sugar honey ice tea. Take the first letter of the last 4 words.
Post partum psychosis is a SERIOUS issue. There's a bunch of sad, horrifying stories about mother's with post partum psychosis.
The last one is a horrendous story. Literally made me sick to my stomach. The idea that she was paroled is outrageous. Andrea Yates is a tragic story both for the children but also for her. Postpartum psychosis is real.
The Mother’s Day gift Gabrielle made his mother just before they did what they did to him. The fact in the picture he is covered in visible bruises breaks my heart because during all the ab**e he still loved his momster
There was a case I had heard about where the mother had severe mental issues and was caught eating her child. I was surprised that one was not on the list.
A mother of 2 daughters would disappear for the weekend, leaving her infant and toddler in a playpen and crib with bottles of formula. Relatives would find them hungry and soiled from top to bottom.
She'd beat them with belt buckles and wire clothes hangers. She'd allow her dates to molest them. She threw them down a flight of stairs and even out a second floor window.
She left them at the corner bus stop all day during the winter when school had been cancelled.
The preschool teacher saw the bruises and other indications of abuse and turned her in.
The children were removed and raised in foster care. What happened to the mother? Nothing.
When I was 18, I asked my mother what she would have changed if she could do it all over. She said nothing. Yes, I was one of those 2 daughters. No, I don't have a relationship with my mother who is now in a nursing home.
It was a long road of therapy, but I have been married almost 30 years and we have 6 kids and 5 grandkids.
While we were removed, I've often wondered why no charges were filled and why she never spent time behind bars and, although I was placed with a good foster family, why were her parental rights never terminated so I could be adopted?
The system doesn't make sense to me.
Not all mothers have the capacity to nurture. Some are mentally disturbed, addicted to substances or behaviors, and some are just narcissists.

I know this is off topic, but hearing or even just seeing you swear is funny and entertaining to me. It’s just because you usually never swear or get really angry. So seeing you swear 15:16 - 15:20 just made me smile in agreement. 😅
I remember my Dad and I watching the news conference of Susan and her husband begging to help find her boys. I cried as my Dad said, “She did it.” I didn’t want to believe she’d harm her children. Then they found them in the water and it was tested to see how long it would have taken for the car to sink. A long, slow process. Horrific.
Andrea Yates was failed by so many. The case is deeper than what this list provides.
Some women, like Diane Downs and Susan Smith considered their kids an inconvenience and deserve no gentle treatment. Andrea Yates, for example, was truly suffering from postnatal psychosis, however, and should be confined outside prison.
The woman who killed her children and her niece, why would the niece’s parent or parents allow their child to be in the hands of a schizophrenic?
And we live in a society that requires a license to catch fish.
so true and alot of people like me cannot even afford to pay for the license, but I could easily afford something to kill someone...Nothing really makes sense anymore.
In Calif death sentences are automatically appealed. It's part of the justice system.
Imagine squeezing a baby into a microwave, pushing the button and you are just standing their watching them spinning around in burning heat to death...Seriously, what happened to leaving them at a firehouse.
Farrah Fawcett played Diane Downs in the tv movie 'Small Sacrifices'.
Back in the days before vaccines, it was normal to lose several children to various (now preventable) illness. My great-grandmother lost 2 of her 12 children, and was considered lucky and blessed to have had so many survive to adulthood. One out of every four babies didn't survive their first year. About one in two kids didn't survive to adolescence - 50%. To lose 11 out of 13 kids wouldn't have been unusual back then.
There was a movie about Diane Downs called Small Sacrifices. Farrah Fawcett played her.
Although it is no excuse for what she did I if I recall with Andrea Yates, her husband knew she that with every child, she had her psychosis got worse, and he refused to get her any help.

some people may not be evil but you can look at their face and tell that something is wrong with them mentally.
For number 2, they said she tormented Sylvia Likens, but should have flat out, said “tortured.” if you look up the murder of Sylvia Likens, it’s one of the most horrific things this young girl had to go through. There was a book and a movie made about her torture and murder.
Sometimes the death penalty should be used. It gets a little murky when mental illness is involved.
And the men that had these children with these horrid women are just as guilty. JS.
Andrea Yates lived not far from our home, in a neighboring subdivision. This story was so horrific. Almost everyone believed that her husband should have been sentenced too. He is a horrible person who contributed greatly to this horrid tragedy.
FYI, in the USA, death penalty sentences are AUTOMATICALLY appealed. To get an idea of how that works, check out the movie "The Chamber" based on John Grisham's novel.
That was a difficult one. I was originally watching this before bed and had to switch off. I didn't want to fall asleep thinking about all these women.

This only really showed moms that killed their kids but I've seen videos of parents that beat their children, starve them, keep them locked up some that sell their kids for drugs or moms that allow the step dad or even the dad to molest them. Sick world we live in these days

Susan Smith fell in love with a guy who didn't want kids, so she got rid of them. So sick. And when they found the car at the bottom of the lake, the first thing they saw was a small hand pressed against the rear window😢😢
Also the woman who put her baby in the microwave (i wanna cry just typing that) tried to say she had a seizure and didn't remember doing it. That is not how siezures work....
Diane Downs is insane. She got pregnant during her trial in order to get sympathy from the jury. It backfired. Thankfully, the baby was taken at birth and adopted by a.loving family. Her two other chilren were adopted by the procsecutor in Diane's case and his wife.
Edit: Andrea Yates has chosen not to leave the mental health facility, even waiving her right to review every year. She is a lot better now and realizes she needs to be there. Also, she knew what she had done was illegal, even if she thought she was doing the right thing
You should read the book Small Sacrifices by Ann Rule. It’s the case of Diana Downs. She is the one on this list that shot her kids. It’s an excellent read.

Andrea Yates loved those kids. She was so messed up with the post partum psychosis. She is still devastated by what she did. She was let down by her husband, the mental health system, and the people who should have supported her.

In America you automatically appeal after your sentence. Then you get three more times during your prison time.
Eleanor Neale does an incredible job in her YT video about Theresa Knorr. Knorr may well be the most evil mother of all time. Suesan's death was so very prolonged and terrible, including being tied under the kitchen table for literally years, being shot, surviving sepsis, and then finally being stabbed - all with absolutely no medical intervention. She wasn't dead when they disposed of her and set her on fire. She had soot in her lungs at autopsy. All of this was because she ran away and told the authorities about the abuse. They questioned her mother, who told them that she had mental illness and was lying. They returned Suesan to Theresa's custody. Truly horrific.
Sheila's death was horrifying, too. She was put into a 2 sf cabinet and locked in there. She was occasionally fed and given water, but eventually, her mom just stopped doing that at all. Her siblings heard her screaming for days, and then there was a thud and she went silent. Theresa still didn't open the cabinet at that point, until she was scared that the neighbors would call the cops about the smell.
Her son Robert is just about as evil as she is. The oldest son escaped very early on, and is apparently doing well. The other son received psychiatric help and seems to be living a decent life. Terry likely only survived because of her own bravery. She found Sheila's ID after her death, took it, and ran away. She was only 14 or 15 at the time, but that ID said over 18, so she was able to find work and housing. She tried to tell the cops about what happened several times, but they dismissed her. It took years for her to get anyone to listen to her.
In the diane downs case the man who was head of the case and the prosecution and his w I ffe actually adopted the children.
There is a movie from the 80s about this called Small Sacrifices. Very good but the actual footage of her interviews where she is flirting and laughing etc its so disturbing.
In all states death row convictions are automatically appealed (second bite at the fairness apple, in case of legal technicalities, attorney misconduct, jury tampering, new evidence, etc).
Most states give them 10 years to prove their innocence through appeal filings before they set the date of execution.
Some death row convictions get downgraded to life without parole or life with parole, depending on the mitigating factors at play.
To me there is intentional homicide, there is self defense and there is unintentional homicide
One gets the death penalty, one gets a not guilty verdict and one get prison time depending on the aggravating factors (brutality) not the mitigating factors (excuses).
That is how the law is written, it’s the punishment that varies.

Sylvia Likens case is in a movie called An American Crime. I can not, and will not, ever be able to watch that again. It horrified me completely.
Diane Downs absolutely has crazy eyes. It's even worse when you watch interviews & compare what she says with that scary gaze 😬
Hi Kabir! I'm surprised Darlie Routier of Rowlett, Texas, didn't make the list. She killed her three kids and tried to blame it on someone who supposedly invaded her house. There was no one. She's still on death row, but she has been there a long time.

She only killed two of them. The third only made it because he was sleeping upstairs in his crib in Mom and Dad's room, while the other two and Darlie were in the living room. She said an intruder broke in and did it, but I don't buy that

On that Susan Smith story they went door to door kicking down black people's doors were kicked down searching. In South Carolina or in America are we're seen as criminals and the sordid history of false accusations infuriated us!
three days is nothing. there was a recent case where the mother left her almost two years-old alone for two weeks(?) to go to...chicago.
As bad of what Andrea Yates did, she should not be on this list, she was not pure evil like them. I blame her husband not her she was diagnosed with postpartum psychosis, and he was instructed by the doctor not to leave her alone, he was the evil jerk, I saw postpartum psychosis first hand and it was not my friend, she thought GOD was talking to her but she never harmed anyone, but she got help and never had another child because like Andrea they told her each time will be worst. She is still locked up and I think she should have a chance if possible to get out and harm nobody, but I am not her doctor and don;t know how far gone she still is and maybe she wants to be there IDK

She’s not free. She was offered the chance to go free, but she didn’t want to. She’s still in the same mental hospital she’s been in this whole time
She’s not free. She was sentenced to a mental hospital in Kerrvillle, TX and still remains there today. Correct me if I am wrong. Rusty remarried, had a son named Mark, and is now divorced.
I did look into if she was still in the hospital, and the article said she could be released but refuses to leave now that she realizes what she's done .
14:52 left alone for only a few hours for a party!? It was an infant! I have left my 4yo at home while his dad is dead to the world to run to the store for 10 min. I have left him alone in his play pen (at our old house across the street from the grocery) to grab diapers in the winter. But to expect to be gone for hours to attend a party, she should be left in a hole with no food or water and a diaper chained on her so she has to sit in her own waste till she expires..
The first video unfortunately that's one of issues with US justice system no matter how horrific the crime the lawyer of the defendant can file for an appeal but will most likely get denied.
The reason that it took so long with the woman in the 1800s is likely because of the medicine back then. Most families that had children lost most of them at a very young age. It’s why family’s backpack intended to be bigger, between the farm and the death rate…
Just remember that taxpayers pay to house and feed these ppl. So when they get life in prison WE pay for that. Just put them in that chair and be done w them for good.
Those sentenced to death get an automatic appeal.

Some people need to take mental exams before having children.
I am so grateful I had good parents who loved their children and took good care of us. This is such a depressing, sad video and I wish I had not watched it.

These are all absolutely horrific I can't believe people do this to others. I have never heard of any of these people but just wow. All of them are evil humans. I also can't believe that Louise Turpin wasn't on this list. Had 13 kids just so her and her husband could abuse them for over 20 years. They are spending life in prison which is amazing. Ik all the people on this list killed their kids but still this is as bad too. Not letting your children out for anything and only one meal a day and not letting them stand up and stay sitting the whole time. You should react to the Turpin case aka house of horrors
I despise the idea of reconciliation of child and biological parents. this allowed a loved kid by his extended family to be exposed to horrible parents.
The 2nd case was adapted into a novel The Girl Next Door (then later a film) by horror author Jack Ketchum, which shows the abuse of the girls by their aunt and her sons from the perspective of a bystanding boy - somehow more terrifying than from the victim's perspective.
This is so hard to watch I have a Friend who had her Grandson for almost 3 years he was only 5 when they gave him back to his mom my Friend fought so hard to keep him and not even a few months went by and that Daughter and her Boyfriend beat little Zachary almost to death somehow he survived and that mother was forced by law to never be able to give birth to another child and was put in prison as was the boyfriend. I'll never understand any of this I can't imagine hurting any child it's just one of the most horrific crimes ever😢😢😢😢
