Man, so many great comments here by smart people, I love type o negative, every October I listen to them everyday, Peter's favorite month..i saw them 3 times, way back man, i got to talk to Peter for a out 20 minutes, maybe more at a metalfest, i saw him standing there alone outside the tour bus, i walked up shook his hand, asked him to do an autograph for my girlfriend that could not make it, he did, i told him i liked the Carnivore days, he was so cool man, it was an honor to hang out with him with no interruption, it was the October Rust tour..R.I.P. every bit as deep as Black Sabbath. Different. But Peter Steele, and this band whacked something not touched before Black Sabbath. He studied Geezer but they made something not touched before Black Sabbath. So deep. So dark. The stage prescence. The whole thing was not touched so deep before them. Amazing drums. What an amazingly coordinated group. What amazing stage. I love it so late. I'm sorry I missed it live.
I was fortunate enough to see Type O four different times in my youth. I'm 46 now and a "clean cut, professional sales rep", but when I discovered them I was 19, long dark hair down to my ass and thought they made music just for me. I instantly fell in love with their sound. I was at a close friend's, picking up my a bag, accompanied by another friend. He had a great cd player, receiver and speakers and was listening to Bloody Kisses. As soon as I got my bag my other buddy and I went to the record store and each picked up our own copy. I saw them 4 times as they toured to support October Rust, twice in small clubs (my favorite shows), once opening for Ozzy and once at Ozzfest 97, headlining w/ Pantera. It sucks knowing I'll never get to see those amazing lineups again. Pete was a artistical genius 💚💚💚
I'm 45 (soon to be 46), discovered TON at a similar age, and have never had the chance to see them live! (I live in Australia and unfortunately their tours here were ... infrequent! 4 times is great \m/
I was 17 or 18 when I first saw them in a club in Portland OR back in 93-94. I had heard Bloody Kisses and loved it. But when I saw them live, that's when my life changed. 900 people at this club and my ass with a mullet, witnessed greatness and it was so loud. They opened for NIN that night. And it is still one of the best gigs I have ever seen. I saw TON a few more times over the years and I am so grateful. Im 47 now and I love this band more now than I ever have.🤘💚🖤🤘
Love to hear these stories! I’m 42 from London in the U.K & a friends older brother had seen them when they came over here & played their first ever show at The Underworld in Camden. He got Pete’s empty wine bottle that he had been drinking from onstage! This was 1994 I believe & I was 13 years old. My life changed forever when I was introduced to Type O & all for the better! I met them at their album signing for October Rust & saw them that evening at Brixton Academy. Still have my AAA pass that was given to me by Pete himself! Type O for life!
I've been a deep fan since the Carnivore days. Saw they were playing in Philly when I was in the Navy and me and couple of my sailor buddies who had time went to see them. Most of the people there wondered if we were cops (hair, not dressed right…) until we told the waitress we were Navy. They should have noticed we were there for the music. lol After everyone found out through her we were sailors we had a few guys (and goils) come say hi. Next thing I know I was taking swigs from Peter's bottle of wine. We are wine brothers. RIP, brother. PS: Everyone I Love is Dead seems to have been written about me present times.
When I was 18 or 19 I saw them them in Louisville KY. I didn't know who they were plus I was a bit wasted . I didn't even understand it was that big ass dude who played a stand up bass like an electric until he came out playing Black no 1 and I lost my mind. I'm 47 and still they're my favorite band. It broke me when this dude passed
@@pauln00b when October Rust came out I was locked up..this college station out of Evansville Indiana played it in its entirety and it just happened that I was reading The Mayfair Witches by Anne Rice and it was like the soundtrack to that book man it was crazy. She definitely influenced the hell out their musical themes. I didn't think they'd be able to too that until I heard World Falling Down . For me that's their best work right there man. RIP Green man for real 💚
@@MukesBoy yea their music is all amazing for me first was bloody kisses n at that time i had never heard anything like that, well maybe after sabs first album.. some kinda goth heavy ig, with unique sound lol. their lyrics are awesome like christian woman.. just genius.
Freakin AWSOME. They sounded better than any time I’ve seen them live before. And I’ve seen Type probably 5 times during their Halloween tours in New Haven Connecticut at Toads Place. My first show was at the El N Gee club in New London Connecticut. Bloody Kisses tour. Peter was standing outside the show shaking hands with people on the way in. This was right after he was on that tv show with all the groupies. Best band ever IMO. Still regret missing that last show in Hartford Connecticut right before Peter died. Like an idiot I was doing coke back than and because of that I missed the show. Little did I know, that would have been the last show I could have ever attended. RIP Pete. You were the best of the best! This show kicked fucking ASS. !
By far, the best rendition of My Girlfriend's Girlfriend I've ever heard. Mind-blowing stuff. They were absolutely on fire during this show. Also loved Josh's soft keyboards in the bridge of Bacchus - the tone was perfect. Sounded like something straight off of Radiohead. Type O at their height. Whoever the sound crew was should've been retained. Every instrument was audible and well mixed, which almost never happened after this show, sadly. Like, you can actually hear everything Josh is doing, which was more often than not criminally buried behind the guitar and bass.
The thing with Type O is that they don't always use conventional sounds for their instruments. It depends on the track and live setting, but alot of the "bass" sounds is Josh using chordal voicing an octave lower than Peter's scooped tone. In this video (perhaps because there is no crowd, and he doesn't have to worry about cutting through the mix?) Peter is using a dry bass signal which is occupying most of the lower frequencies, so Josh is playing chords in between Peter and Kenny. Compare the riff being played 4:42 to 5:27 . The former sounds *fuller* than the latter because Josh is playing a octave higher than Kenny. Whereas the former Josh is playing the octave between Peter and Kenny.
The Mix is excellent and Pete's bass tone is rich and full of groove. I think the fact he doesn't have the distortion or chorus pedals on account for very clean, deep, tone that usually isn't heard on alot of live performances. Great stuff thank you for uploading this in full!
I agree, this performance also has some of the best played versions of the songs in the setlist, In Praise Of Bacchus is hands down the best version of that song they've ever played IMO (Live or studio), Too Late:Frozen from this show was also top teir.
Peter was a legend his vocals from even as far back as original sin are amazing live performances always show his true voice and it makes me feel better about singing
@@satanicpanicattheddtable2604 You mean, Fallout. Josh was in Original Sin with his wife (at the time) singing lead. Incidentally, I have some Original Sin and Fallout uploaded to my channel.
especially this live version of Too Late: Frozen is by far the best of all. IMHO this song is live better than the recorded versions. the bass playing of pete is so catchy in the beginning and i'm quite sure its kenny singing the bridge on the records. he is a great singer, too but pete is killing it. have you ever tried to knock at your throat to get this vibrato? sadly i never were old (and probably mature) enough to see them live. now i am almost 30 years of age and understand the pain and maturity in those lyrics. you've got to belong to it!... as phil would scream ;D
It's Pete on the record. He just has his voice masked in a shit ton of chorus and phaser effects. But, yeah, he knocked it out of the park on this performance.
