Right? The closest I got was @ the show my daughter, her & my friends were all at in '03' @ Toad's in NH, CT - outside across the street from the tour bus was Johnny Kelly & one of his famous cars that he must've been following it in. I used one of my daughter's younger, prettier friends to go over & approach him - 'told him it was her first rock concert (which it was) and he could not have been sweeter (she did embarrass me, however, when she told him I had pictures of them all over my house (it was ONE many pictured collage I made in the kitchen) & he said "that's cool - I think" (kids - what can you do? She was a pain in the ass all the way through this show, BTW, but at least I/we saw them before Pete died)

I reconnected with an old friend this year in April and he gave me “I don’t wanna be me” song and I added to my rotation on Spotify and then out walking my dogs during this quarantine bullshit, it came on. The voice. The gif of Peter Steele doing the cross on Jerry Springer popped into my mind while walking, so I went home and looked into TON. In 2020, TON and Pete is immortal. I’m pretty obsessed to the point of wanting to buy gear and re create their sound to ease over my soul. Pete lasted as long as he could and gave us material to remember him by. Thankful for it but will always be bummed that there isn’t new material or him here. I heard someone say about David Bowie “you were lucky enough to be on the same planet as he graced us with his presence.”

I dont mind sharing my recent interest in TON - I remember them being more "punkish" or "skater'esq" in nature (insanely fast songs) back in the day, which really isnt my thing. So they were always just "one of *those* bands...." in my mind, that I never became a fan of. But Christian Woman, Love You To Death and Green Man automagically showed up in my CZcams mix about 6 months ago. I was like "Who in the hell is that? Oh crap - Type O Negative? Really?". I've been on a TON kick ever since - reviewing all of their stuff and enjoying some of their more mellow (for lack of a better term) songs that I had missed out on over the years.

Wet and wild was an hour long metal show on tmf (the music factory) a music channel. By watching wet ‘n wild I discovered: Pantera, slayer, machine head, paradise lost, type o and many more. I used to tape it on vhs because it aired around midnight. Good times

I see videos of TON around this time and I can't help but think of how unkind drugs were to Peter. Looking at him here in this video, who would have thought that he would go on to look like he did in the 2000s? I'd like to think that, considering the drastic turn-around he made in his later years, he would want that to serve as a lesson to people.

Fortress of Solid Dudes believe me drugs will shit on every relationship every friendship everyone and everything you love people who haven’t been there will never understand and have no right to say one word about it. It changes you and people think all this stuff but they don’t get a addict don’t need any hate from anyone because they hate themselves enough they tear themselves apart enough it’s not fun waking up sick and all that’s on your mind I don’t want to get sick am I going to be sick later, tomorrow, next week, next month. It’s constant and until you break it it will eat you the fuck alive. Some of us are lucky we got out of it I did I’ve been sober 1 year and 1 month. It’s so damn hard believe me and even after treatment you still think about it. People always say I do it to forget. You don’t forget shit it just adds even more shit to the overwhelming shit that was driving you crazy before then you add drugs and go mad. It’s not worth it I’ve had many I’ve begged don’t touch pills don’t touch pills don’t do drugs and bam they are crying to me and I’m like I told your ass. I can’t imagine what people on hardcore drugs go through especially people who are on the needle I just can’t imagine it. I feel so sorry for them it isn’t a a disease it’s a damn demon it’s worse then people can understand and what they fail to get is that it is a disease after you are addicted. Withdrawals are so damn bad it’s like every sickness and flu you’ve ever had times 5000x it’s horrible. I pray to god that if there’s anyone who goes to take that first time that they don’t do it! And the ones who are stuck get better.

Yep time using drugs and alcohol did ravage him physically but it is what it did to his mind that is so painful to see in the late interviews after his family interevened to help him and he seemed so lost and angry -possibly just humiliated. In the last interview when he had been clean for about 6 months there is such a new clarity for him but sadly he passed away soon after. He took responsibility for what he had done to himself and others. He ultimately to me will be remembered as a really nice dude who was a bit into self- destruction. And had more to offer than just the slightly self conscious swagger.

I was there in '95. I went there with a couple of friends who were much more into HC-Punk at the time, the ticket was 25,- Gulden (the ridiculous amount of 12,- € for both days!!!!), we were drunk / high all the time (except of me, I was sXe back then) and I went alone to TON - and I was blown away!!! Later that night I saw Pete in a tent next to me, but I was hesitant to talk to him.

This is really some excellent concert footage of the Drab Four - great sound. Probably the best I've ever seen of them imho. And when they were at their peak as well, performance wise. Anyone who had the fortune of seeing them between 94-96 really witnessed something special and historic. I've personally seen them four times through the years, my first time being in 95 at Milwaukee Metalfest. That first show was by far the best!🖤💚
