And here I thought I was the only other woman who thinks Diane Lane is so awesome and beautiful. To be clear I am a yam only kinda gal but have always loved her. I loved her as a Cherry in The Outsiders from A LONG TIME AGO. I am watching this and it’s ok but I get bummed when I see Treat Williams… God bless his soul. He passed away about a year or so ago. Very shocking. But, this show is going to be messy and I’m here for it. Truman grew up in New Orleans with his aunt and grandmother. His mother supposedly ran off with a man or something and couldn’t care for a child like she should.i could be wrong so don’t come after me, please.

There is a documentary on Hulu about Capote. He was really an interesting man. They said that he was friends/neighbors with Harper Lee as a child and the character in To Kill a Mocking bird (the next door neighbor) was based on him.

My friends father, who was an old-school, Southern country lawyer, had so many sayings that we all should have written a collection of them - one of my favorites was “ don’t piss on my leg and tell me it’s rainin” I’m so glad I found this channel. It has literally saved me. It makes my day in a time where I’m not having so many good days lately I was so excited for this series but now I look forward to this/your commentary more than I actually do watching the show.❤
That party/ball was so boring. It was embarrassing to watch. I’ve been to some parties like that and I felt bad leaving because when I left the fun left what little fun that there was.😂
Cuz, I been waiting for you to get to this show. I am loving it so far but it is right up my alley because when my black ass was a teen, I was into fashion and so many of Capote's swans were all time style icons. Like the actresses are all great and beautiful and yet don't even capture the level of beauty and style of these women, especially Babe. Babe/Barbara was raised to marry well. Her mother raised all of her pretty daughters to have style, wit, and charm to land rich husbands and man did they ever(her maiden name was Cushing and her and her sisters were known as "the fabulous Cushing sisters"). Babe was on the international best dressed hall of fame list and basically is an all time style icon. Bill was her second husband and his roots were a lot less posh then hers and even though he founded CBS and was one of the most powerful men in America, for all his wealth, some still sneered at him because he was Jewish. One bit of extra context on the Happy affair is that Happy was already notorious(sing it like the Biggie track). She had been married but in the late 1950's she volunteered on Rockerfeller's campaign for governor. She was married at the time with four kids, he was 18 years older than her with a family as well. She ended up his private secretary after her won. They ended up having an affair and left their respective spouses for each other. It was a big scandal and many thoughts the divorce was what messed up Rockerfeller's presidential run in 1964. All to say these people were messy as hell. To say nothing of Calista playing Lee Radziwill- Jackie O's little sister. Jackie and Lee had a messy relationship for many reasons including the billionaire Aristotle Onasis leaving Lee for Jackie(and marrying her). These people are a whole mess. But I guess if you don't have to worry about your bills, you got time for the scandal.

I love all the background tea you're giving me! I love it! I know they can't add all of those aspects of the swans and other women's relationships but if they did it would be so so good! I definitely know they had a close but competitive relationship. I wouldn't mind a show about those two either. THAT would be some good TV!

Cousin! I am so glad that you have decided to review this! I have such mixed feelings about this series. I have loved other films about Truman Capote Iike “Infamous.” But this show is just so depressing. Still the clothes are so beautiful and the actresses are amazing. Naomi Watts, as Babe Paley, is terrific. So is Diane Lane and Chloe Sevigny. I just wish we saw Calista Flockhart more. Molly Ringwald is practically non-existent. Your imitation of Truman is spot on!

There's a little documentary on Hulu about Truman that gives insight & there are a couple videos on CZcams that talk about the real life swans that are very informative. From what I can tell so far this show is doing a really good job & Tom Hollander is doing such an accurate Truman Capote it's scary!
I feel like Tom Hollander studied Truman for months b/c he ATE this role up. I've seen other actor play him but I feel like TH just embodied everything...the voice, the laugh, the posture and movements.

The cast is phenomenal and I'm loving the show so far! Truman Capote was the epitome of "If you don't have anything nice to say about anybody, come sit by me." 😂He was a southern fried, jealous, Valium poppin', 2faced, alcohol soaked queen with a knack for storytelling. I hollered when John started hacking that turkey. He's psychotic trade that cuts poultry like one😭
Babe was a fashionista that married community peen 🤣Bill was so self-centered that he didn't notice that Happy was on her period. Like sir, you saw and smelled NOTHING?! 😂
As for the cyanide pills, I learned those were given to CIA spies to take to avoid interrogations if they were caught. Considering the wealthy have access to any pills and potions they want, no surprise that Ann Bang-Bang got her hands on some. She was right for telling Truman that he will learn was his own poison will taste like. Thank you again for this entertaining recap and I will check ep. 4 today!

OMG your Capote imitation is freaking hilarious. He was one nasty little queen. lol I love Breakfast at Tiffany's but I also love Audrey Hepburn. It's a very good movie except for Mickey Rooney playing an Asian man, yeah they did that shit back then. They did make it a very Hollywood love story with a happy ending. The book was quite a bit different, they very much downplayed she was a hooker(hey that's what they called them lol). His non fiction book In Cold Blood was a huge hit which is what put him on the map. But he really didn't write that much because he was too busy drinking and being a little bitch but he was a good writer. I do love the movie Murder by Death that he was in; it's a comedy about all the greatest detectives invited to a weekend thing.
The guy playing him in this has him down exactly including that annoying voice. Most everything so far really did happen but those brothers didn't do a documentary about the Ball. But they did do interviews with him at one point in his life. You need to find the real pics of Babe's apartment in New York. And there's an interview with Candace Bergen talking about going to the Ball. Looking forward to the next one... I have to watch ep 4 now.

I was surprised to find out that Truman wanted Marilyn Monroe to play Holly Golightly. I haven't read the book yet but apparently Holly wasn't like the movie so now I'm going to move it up the reading list to see WHY lol.

I have been infatuated w Diane Lane since "Outsiders " and "Rumblefish" always thought Diane and Matt Dillon would be the perfect couple.
I never even realized Diane Lane was in the outsiders. I've only seen it once or twice, but my eyes were locked on Patrick Swayze. RIP

Truman is truly annoying and one of the shadiest people I have ever seen but he's not the only one who's trash in this show. Episode 4 was an eye opener but I won't spoil it for anyone. Now, why did I think that Demi was Jessica Lange all the way up until Jessica actually appeared? How she just stole that lady whole face? 😂

Truman was def. hateful…Harper Lee gave him acknowledgments in her book. At the time that she helped him with his book In Cold Blood, Harper was already a massive success, she really helped him… He did not really acknowledge her help in his book.

Thank you for doing this show! I watched the first couple of episodes and found it boring. It would have been a good 90-minute movie but they stretched it out to eight hours… too much for the story. I would much rather devote the time to laughing with your recaps!
