    Sweaty palms- always when turning the key for the first time after a cambelt job.
    In we have aa 2009 2.0L VW EOS in for cambelt replacement. This one was (un)fortunately eventful. Our customer called us due to a squealing noise coming from the engine bay. We later found out that this job was more than just a cambelt replacement. I’m telling you now, this job DID NOT GO WELL!

    If you claim to be doing the job correctly why didn’t you change the cam seals and crank seals ? The owner of the car shouldn’t pay you either !

      Why change the seals if they are not leaking ?

    • @stavyone
      @stavyone Před 8 dny +1

      @@xl250mon5 obviously you are not a qualified mechanic otherwise you wouldn’t ask a stupid question like that! The vehicle is going to travel at least 100 thousand kilometres before the belt is changed again . Meaning the seals would have done at least 200 thousand ks. Secondly it is part of the maintenance bulletin as specified on all timing belt changes. Thirdly they come in the kit, timing belt, tensioner, bearings cam seals and crank seal as well as on all vw vehicles the replacement of water pump is recommended. What did you throw the seals the customer paid for or kept them? Have you heard of preventative maintenance? Have you even been to technical college?

      @@stavyone you are obviously not a qualified Auto Engineer,in my 40 years qualified I have never come across a cam kit with crank and cam seals.Do you change the rear crank seal when you change a clutch? @@stavyone oh and by the way I teach automotive engineering at a technical College, worked on truck engines that have covered over 500,000 miles and no leaking seals. @stavyone Před 8 dny

      @@xl250mon5 god help,us all if you are actually teaching students in tech ! I’ll make this simple on you Mr engineer . Does it stipulate clearly in every service bulletin of every vehicle fitted with a timing belt that it is recommended by the manufacturer cam seals and crank seal are to be replaced when fitting a timing belt kit? As a qualified mechanic should you have replaced the seals knowing that they will be dry brittle and weeping within the next 100 thousand kilometres as well as following the manufacturers recommendations ? Should be an easy one for you since you’re a tech teacher/engineer. The more you divert off the conversation of you stating you didn’t change the seals because they weren’t leaking the more stupid you sound!

    Most main dealers have literal children working there with only 1 or two really good techs. When a young tech who took the college route and ended up at vw likely only works on brand new shiny cars. As soon as they get a decent job on an older car, their lack of experience truly shows

    one thing i did notice though is the pointy metal part on the tensioner pulley which is supposed to align with the part with the groove in when fitted is now a good centimeter to the left of that part. is this normal to happen over time? the belt still seems to have good tension.

    • @themarvelousvlog
      @themarvelousvlog  Před měsícem +1

      Yes and no… Quite difficult to say because sometimes, depending on the stroke that you’re at, it will tension back in and out of place. Hi , Not definite so look on the main tensioner and water pump if it’s driven by the timing belt there may be a manufacturing date , ie 12 for 2012 etc .

      @@davewalsh2883 if the timing belt snaps, then will all the piston head will be damaged and engine need replacing?

      @@SSUKBD only if it’s an interference engine , and if it’s not it’s usually the valves that take the hit if it fails at low engine rpm .

    How come u started it with no coolant in the bottle?

    • @themarvelousvlog
      @themarvelousvlog  Před měsícem +1

      This is so that we know if the car starts after the timing belt has been fitted. If we were to fill up the coolant bottle and we later on find out that it doesn’t start, we just wasted coolant and time 😅
      Just remember, it won’t hurt the engine if only started for a couple seconds

    That VW Banana bolt has a part number, but can only be sourced from VW Caribbean ….. or you’re local Euro Parts store, which will have plenty of “customer return” VW bolts packaged as new ….. hope you didn’t replace it with a straight one 😮😮🍌🍌
