- Unboxing the December 2020 Sew Sampler Sewing Subscription Box from Fat Quarter Shop. This is a monthly sewing subscription box that typically features a pattern, some fabric, some notions, and a block of the month program (you bring the fabric - they give you the block pattern). The cost versus value of the box is typically pretty good. The box costs about $31.39, which includes shipping in the United States. Overall, the value typically ranges between $50 and $60 dollars and features products from well known designers.
To sign up for this box, you do have to pay a $0.99 one-time registration fee; but be warned - this monthly service is often wait-listed! If you see an opening and you've been thinking about getting one - my advice is to snag it without thinking twice! Additionally, there's a FaceBook group where you can very easily re-sell contents of the box should you get something you're not a fan of. The group is called 'Sew Sampler Swap' and can be found here: / 254145591846587 - let them know Becca sent you!

Hi friends! What did you think of December's package - worth the wait?
Just notified today that I moved up enough to get the Sew Sampler! So excited!
Woo hoo!!!
I love the layer cake. and everyone likes what they like. Good for you for your honesty. Such a busy postie today! 🌸
All the boxes came in at once! LOL - I feel like I'm making up for a month where I didn't do any posting!
Thanks again, Sew Becca! I love seeing what's in these subscription boxes. I've been think of getting a box, but want one I would like without a lot of things I probably wouldn't use. Your tutorials help and are fun to watch. 😊
You are so welcome! If you get a box, I'd love to know which one you get!
Love your videos, tutorials, and sew alongs Becca!❤🐢
Thank you so much, Pauline!
I love the surprise of it! Thanks for sharing!
You are so welcome!
I've watched this video about 3 times, you make everything so clear in your explanation and the video gives a great view of the items. It's also very entertaining to watch. Thank you! I'm going back and forth on the project, like the fabric and notions. I might make placemats out of it with a bit of changing of the pattern. I enjoy paper Piecing :) thanks again!
Awww, those words made me feel so loved! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Hope to see you back for more soon! hugs!!
Love the two spools of thread! Thanks for the unboxing!
You are so welcome!
Love your energy...subscribed! Watching as I tame my scrap stash
Awesome! Thank you! What do you do to organize your scraps? I always have wonderful intentions, but then ultimately clear the pile by 'de-stashing' it and paying them forward!
I'm going to be cancelling my subscription. I've not been happy with the last several boxes! I was happy about the needle holder and I do like the fabric this time. I won't spend that much on thread personally, so getting thread is nice but I'd rather get more white each time since I usually use more white than anything else. Guess someone will come off of the waiting list!
That's a wise decision. If you're not happy, the best thing you can do is cancel and put that money towards a box that makes you happy. I'll still be over here doing unboxing videos if you want to make sure you made the right choice!
Thank you for the video-I was debating whether to order the finishing kit before it sells out. Also-not a great day here, and it was a pick me up. I love your enthusiasm and that you are honest about your reactions without being at all negative. My box should arrive in a few days, and I’m not going to get the finishing kit. I’m not a fan of paper piecing, but I will definitely have fun with the fabric and notions. Thank you again!
my goodness, thank you SO much for those kind words!! I'll keep the format going! I hope your box gets there soon!!!
I love the fabric!! I think the box is a value
Not a fan of the fabric, over all, but I agree with you - value is there!
Thanks Becca, interesting box, a couple of things I do like though not the table top pattern, so will use the fabric on something else
I'd love to see what you'd make!
A fun opening... not huge on the fabric but it’s ok! Looks like a nice box tho... it’s fun to see the different boxes. See you Friday night for the sewing!!
Yes yes! BOM tomorrow night!
Loved the box...may consider it! I really like the Flea Market collection.
There are a few pieces in the collection that I LOVE!
I never saw that box before cool idea! Thanks for sharing! And you are like Jean Truelove with your love of reds, teal's and pinks, they are so pretty :)
Like I say - Jean & I are BFF's...she just doesn't know it yet. :)
@@sewbecca Lol too funny! One of these days I want to do your live sew nights, usually by nights my energy is gone since homeschool my kids this year and free motion quilting takes a full tank of energy and those are mostly the projects I have piled up right now. I am determined to finish those before I start anything new this year.
I like the flea market bundle. I saved all the orange and green for Halloween and some of the green for Christmas.
Oooh, that's a really good idea!!
Enjoy your box reviews, Becca!
thank you sue!
A nice thing about quilting fabric and quilts is that even ugly fabrics can look great when in the actual project.
I actually like the fabric selection overall.
I've been learning that recently! Cut it up small enough, and it'll look ok. ;)
Already subbed......don’t always get notifications but glad it got THIS one!!
Yay!!!
Love your energy !
Thank you!!
Love your videos Becca!
Thank you, Debra!
Had to wait to watch until my box arrived. I agree with you on the fabric...some prints I loved and others not so much. It definitely is not one of my favorite Lori Holt lines. I am happy about the spools of thread. Every time I fill out the Sew Sampler survey I always mention would be nice to include thread for the project. Have to say this box was a little bit of a letdown for me but I know we can't love everything we get from a subscription. With that being said I'm still happy to be a Sew Sampler subscriber.
Same. Some months are a hit, others are a miss. :)
Definitely looks like a teal needle holder to me. Just watched Kimberley Demo the Sparkle Star block today. Love it! i twould be easy to flip the pattern on computer and combine the two for a different layout.
Great idea!!
love paper piecing but didn't care for that pattern, like the fabric
Same, same, same!
Might be prettier if colors were reversed...stars in color, background in white.
@@suzannemiller993 That's what I was thinking...but don't really care for the pattern or paper piecing design...
I do like the fabric line!
See! Tastes range. I'm not a huge fan, but I know someone out there is going to LOVE it!
Suppose to get mine on Friday. Love it that you put on the spoiler video.I Enjoy seeing ahead what will be coming in my Sampler box. Not a fan of paper piecing, maybe because haven't had time to learn it yet. That's my fault. I belong to Piecing It Real. I Love all Lori Holts fabrics. Not real crazy bout this topper pattern. Way too busy for me. Just my opinion. Love your U tube channels. Learn a lot from you!
Hope you enjoy it! I'm glad you like the spoiler alert - I try to take extra precautions to make sure that you REALLY want to see the contents before you watch the video. :)
Great box. I love the fabric.
Are you going to make the project?
@@sewbecca I bought the fat quarter bundle from sew yeah. I’m going to mix the fabric with a prim and proper quilt by Lori Holt and I have her other fabric in different collections. I’m just mixing it up. This collection has some really big bold prints. I heard to cut them small and if you still don’t like the print cut smaller. Lol
I don’t get the fat quarter subscription. But I don’t really like the pattern on that particle one. I do love their paper piecing. Just not that one.
Finally some thread!!!
and 2 spools of it!
I’m not jumping up and down ecstatic. It’s ok. I actually have a couple designers I tend to really like and enjoy that I have not been as over the top with their choices these last few fabric lines they have put out. They have definitely changed direction and went in a totally different style and vibe then their typical. I’m sure that the difference has really pulled them in some new customers and fans lol- gotten the attention of a different crowd. It’s been nice to see them show their growth and talent in different styles. Personally there has only been one fabric line from one of my preferred designers that switched it up that I absolutely loved and purchased as much as I typical do of their new lines when they come out. In fact it’s very close and its possible I may have purchased more than the average. Lol.
Maybe January's box, when it ships, will be better. Sometimes there's a hit, and sometimes there's a miss. Can't make 100% of the people happy 100% of the time!
@@sewbecca - 100% agree! Pleasing some of the people some of the time is a win! 🥰😘
I am new love the fabric
Welcome!! :)
Not my favorite Lori Holt Line but has some cute prints. I think the value is good and I use the fabric for what I want not necessarily the pattern they choose.
I totally agree! I'd love to see what you make with the fabric. :)
Not my favorite box. I thought out would be a little more holiday themed. Not a fan of the fabric but i do like a couple of them. I think we're getting to much paper piecing paper. I would want to pick my pattern if I chose. To do a paper pieced quilt. Thanks for sharing Becca.
Fair enough! Someone else pointed out that we seem to get foundation paper in just about every box now. I can totally understand why someone might think this is now an FPP box, LOL
Thanks
Welcome
I think the fabric would make a neat crazy quilt. But don’t know what size it would make. I just like to make lap quilts. I just got the accuquilt crazy die . I need a cake layer fabric to make one.
Oooh, Acuquilt has a crazy die?! I must check that out!
Not my favorite line of hers but I’m going to buy that pin box!
I imagine this would be super handy for my cross stitch needles!
Thanks, Becca - fabric is ok...but don't like the pattern or the paper piecing design...I can always use the fabric to make a charity quilt/lap quilt for seniors at the nursing home.
That's a great idea!
What machine do you use? I'm wanting a new one and I really like yours..ty...thanks for all your videos...
I have a Babylock Aria. :)
They said January’s will probably be late as well. It’s because of product delays.
That makes total sense. :) One of these days, I'll catch one of their livestreams :)
So today I decided to watch it.
Hahaha - what'd you think?
Not my favorite box, but I like the needle case.
We got that box a few years ago
Yeap. This was the December 2020 box - I posted this back in December 2020. :)
Magnetic needle holder looks like the teal one
Right! I don't see navy at all!!
Not getting mine till Friday this week. Confused by email I received last weekend about ordering finishing kit for runner. How do you pre-order finishing kit before seeing???
Great question, April! And I'd ask myself the same thing!!
I always wonder the same thing 🙄. But, I have plenty of stash for backings and backgrounds, so I never order the finishings 😁.
Love the box except the pattern :)
:)
Thank you for the unboxing!😁 If there's anyone who's interested in December's Sew Sampler Box, let me know. All I want is the Stay Sharp Magnetic Needle Holder, the rest is yours. 👍🏻
If you’re looking to offload it quickly, there’s a sew sampler swap group on Facebook!
@@sewbecca oh okay great, I just started my subscription a few months ago and didn't realize they have a group for that thank you👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@veronicav2478 You're very welcome! The group I referred to is here: facebook.com/groups/254145591846587
Not worth the wait, my box only arrived today. Glad I didn't buy cupid box I already watched Arkansas Girl open hers, sure not worth $50 with shipping cost. I may switch to the new Ginger Quilter box and hope it keeps its great contents as I've seen in your unboxing
I JUST got the Cupid box today! Uh oh!! Guess we will see if it’s worth the cost!
Obrigada, estava bem traduzido!
Im not a fan of fabric choices with this pattern. I think I would switch and do the middle with colored fabric and the rest with background fabric. I want those stars to really pop.
That's a GREAT idea!
I agree, I was thinking something similar!
That is exactly what I was thinking!
I was hoping for a little extra surprise because it was Christmas and we had to wait 🙁
That would have been nice!
Very close to 7000
I know!!! And, the Sew Yeah guys surprised me with ANOTHER prize to give away. When I hit 7,000 - I've got an AWESOME package to send to someone!
Newbie here and subscriber
Hey hey Michelle! Thanks for letting me know!!!
I'm gonna be nice & just say the only thing in this box I like is the needle holder.
🤣👍🏻
I've been a member for quite a while and this might be my most disappointing box. Maybe I was spoiled by November. That was my favorite, ever.
November was great!!
Hey Becca! I'll trade you this months layer cake for last months Folktale🤔🤣
LOL! There may be some lovely fabric given away in raffles during the live this week!
on my screen the needle case looked teal
Definitely looked teal to me!
Eh. Not a fan of surprise boxes. I have a whole drawer full of sewing notions ( junk) I won’t use. I can’t see the value in $5 for a block pattern I can find free on the net. Lori Holt is lovely though. And I’ll subscribe.
Thanks for subscribing!!!
January Box is also running behind - sorry to disappoint you! 🙄
eh, oh well! 🙃 I’ll be here waiting when it comes!
Not a fan of the fabrics too busy for the runner to my liking
Kinda feel the same. There are some prints in the collection I love - but overall, it's 'meh'
Some of the fabrics were really nice. I am not a fan of oranges, deep yellows and browns.
Me either - much prefer happy bright colors!
In my opinion, it was not worth the wait. I do not like the paper piecing, we just got some in either November or October box. It is great to get thread, but not those colors. I won't ever use them. The pattern for the tablerunner is not one I would choose. So, for me, it was not worth the wait and actually rather disappointing.
We got Lori Holt's Crazy paper to iron on a 5" square and cut into 4 pieces - not quite the same. We did get a courthouse steps one for that tablerunner pattern too. They send out new paper once it is available at FQS
I don't mind the pattern, but I'm not sure I love this fabric with that pattern!
I get that they have their own lines of foundation paper now, but honestly I am sick of getting it in every other box. As something who doesn't enjoy paper piecing, it's getting to be more of a miss than a hit for me.😒
I hadn’t realized how frequently we have gotten that stuff until you mentioned that!
They have been sending it as it has been being released as a new item in their online store!!!!
I'm sick of getting the papers too!!! Also mostly Lori Holt stuff the last year. After the wait disappointed, keep thinking I will cancel but since its the cheapest box I keep holding on hoping for better boxes this year.
Nope. Lol
😆
Not a fan of the fabric line , just not my style.
Not mine either, honestly
Definitely not worth the wait. Do not care for the pattern or fabric. Disappointing from Lori Holt
I've definitely seen better Lori Holt lines
To be sure so have I. Did not like this whole box. Waiting to see if January is to my liking as I am considering dropping it but I really hate to. We shall see
