They're pulling this out of their butts. As a Spurs fan I implore you to pump the brakes. He will be ok in year 1. I'm expecting 16/2/8. Pop is going to be very careful with him this year. I think we'll get 45 games out of him or more at 23 min a game.
On top of that pop has this tendency to bench you if you miss a defensive rotation or TO. He's going to get benched a lot. It's not because he's bad. He's just learning.
Maybe. Pop played Tim Duncan all 82 games at 39 minutes/game his rookie year and Duncan was only a year older than Wemby is now... plus, it's not like Wemby has been playing high school ball. The dude has been in a professional league for YEARS playing against grown men at high minutes. I don't see why he can't impact the game as a rookie the same way Luka did (21 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists). Plus, there's no way the league is going to let the Spurs sit him nearly half the games if he's healthy. He's a main attraction, people will pay to come see him play. They're not going to sit him because he's 20 (he's 19 right now, but will be 20 during the season) and they're certainly not going to play him limited minutes. Like, why? I expect him to play 70 games at 30 minutes per game at the minimum and we should see 20 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks no problem.

This kid is so good that rookie of the year is lowering the bar in a way. To me, he should strive for being an All-Star and eventually being the best player in the world. There are just some guys that are THAT good

Most all-time great players had about a 9-10 year prime. You could find a few examples of guys who had longer primes (Jordan, LeBron, Kobe, Durant as examples), but most fall right into that decade-long sweet spot (Wade, Shaq, Bird, Magic, Kareem, etc). So if you get 10 years of prime out of this kid, he'll be an all-timer.

France is still the 4th or 5th best league in the world easily better than college and he dominated grown men

Outside of France it is very difficult to find people who can name four French teams without using Google. In fact best French players do not even play in France. They are either in NBA or scattered across Europe. Spain, Greece, Turkey, Russia, Italy, maybe Germany have stronger national league than France. I would also say that regional Balkans ABA League (that produced Jokic, Bojan and Bogdan Bogdanovic, Saric, Zubac, Vucevic, Pekovic, Marjanovic, Luwawu-Cabarrot, Vesely, Davis Bertans...) is better and by far more talented.
