Its not that, at least in my opinión, in the postrevolution time the representation of indigenous people and their iconography was one of the most common themes, it's more the oversaturation of Frida's image in pop culture and like he said she was not even that good at a technical level so is easy to not like her specially when You know so Many other mexican artist, even artist woman that don't get nearly the dame amount of recognition specially outside México.
I bet you that people in the netherlands get tired of hearing about Van Gogh too.

Through my own mental and general life struggles while doing ans studying art formally and alone, i have learned to see more beautiful in a 5 year olds messy drawing that clearly shows they enjoyed their activity and you can see a part of their life's experience rather than an technically well done realistic portrait that is more devoted of life the image seems like a lump of stone.

Before I went to the Caravaggio exhibit i rewatched your video and it made my visit more meaningful and I'll do the same when I go to the Frida Kahlo exhibit. ¡Excelente pronunciación señor Nerdwriter! Thanks for actually trying and getting there, as always with the whole research that goes into these essays. Currently there's a dismissive discourse on Frida and her work among mexican hipsters, chicano artists, latino activists, feminists and opinionated influencers who just overtly decontextualize her, criticizing her purposely naive style as amateurish and overrated, misinterpreting her exposure of nationalistic values as exploitative mestizo apropiation of native cultures (since she had german ancestry) but none of that holds any weight or truth to the actual fact of standing in front of her paintings and, as you put it, feeling very close to her. That's the "magic" of her art. It indeed inspired me to try painting myself.

I had the privilege of seeing a gallery of her works at The Dali museum in Florida a few years ago. The design of the gallery led you in chronological order of her paintings and in between a mural with text telling her story at the time of each painting’s creation. At the end of the exhibit I was in tears for the woman I grew to love and understand. I felt her passion and pain as if I had known her my whole life. Frida was a master of her craft.

The definition of great art in my book, any kind of art at all, is that is makes you "feel" something, or look at something differently. The greatest art makes you look at the whole world differently. Frida's art is in the greatest art category. Without question. Translation of what is written in 5:47
After leaving mass of 7 o'clock in the date June 15 of 1942, the sisters Rosa and Carmen Ruiz got scared in the street behind the market when the raider appeared with his gun, they entrusted to the Virgin of San Juan de los Lagos (literal translation: Saint John of the Lakes) so the man would not kill or injure them and the raider only took away their bags that had few coins and the service book and he did not do any other harm so I give thanks with this "retablo"

Oh how stupid of me to have seen so many reproductions of her paintings and to never have made the connection with retablos! It's so clear when you point it out!

Be sure to also research into her political and personal life, also be careful of biased sources because it will be either the best thing that happened to Mexico ever or the spawn of hell, she was a very interesting character but she is not what most people thinks (for good and bad)

@@Pacha_RM oh yeah, people tend to be idealised and depersonalised. I'll have this in mind, thanks!!
