sounds like a pj-bass on acid
Acid and Jack
Isn't the acid part from the dark glass gear?
The way you played the bejesus out of it in the beginning alone was a review really...Tasty yet savage as always :D Very versatile bass, hell now I want one!
HAPPY (Belated) BIRTHDAY PATRICK! Great vid as always
Position 2 sound like jazz bass and 4 like a pbass with extra mayo.
"Hi, could I get a p-bass with extra mayo, hold the Fender? Thank you!"
Patrick Hunter no car parts please!
The McChicken of bass sounds
JimmySpadeful here me out, a p/stingray bass, those are my personal favorites
"pbass with extra mayo" i love it
Perfect timing. I've been seriously looking at this bass recently. Looks like this is my next investment.
Patrick, all of yours bassline inspire me a lot. You rocks so much
I love that it has solid aggressive low end, very scooped but still has that string noise. I really want breaking benjamin bass tone. Im a guitar player but i think this bass will work really great in a metal and hardrock mix. Thanks a lot for your awesome contribution sir.
Thank you for the EXCELLENT pick-up selector diagram. Easier to understand than just a quick verbal description.
The way Patrick describes a finish he likes is just great XD
Awesome demo as always man
I've been holding out for a EBMM StingRay. But honestly, the Sterlings have gotten so good that I might just break down and get one of those first. I need that tone!
It's so worth it, man!
I bought my Sterling Ray35HH (the Pearl White finish with the roasted maple neck and black pickguard is an absolute SHOW STOPPER) a little over a year ago, and I love it. The quality of the bass is REAL CLOSE to EBMM.
Hey Patrick ... thanks to your video, I just ordered the 5-string version of this bass yesterday! ... looks & sounds amazing! Cheers :)
Damn patrick those riffs!! Im learning all of them and using them as warmups! Haha much props from chile!!
Great review. I enjoy your enthusiasm. I'm getting this bass!
You convinced me. I just put one on order today! Thanks for the review.
I could never figure out what part of the pickup is doing what according to the switches. This is the first time seeing it actually illustrated on the right. Kudos. I haven't seen anybody do that.
Right, I so much appreciated him doing that ...
Love watching this man play. You can tell he's having fun.
He Bobs his head like no one else. Funny 😆
Your review pushed me over the edge...I was trying to decide between the Ray34HH and the Ray SUB4 [and do some upgrading]...but yeah. You caused me to purchase the Ray34HH. [You'll be hearing from my lawyer - LOL]. Seriously, nice job man!...and much appreciated!
Awesome review, Patrick. \m/ that bass sounded pretty cool. Especially with distortion. Sterling makes great sounding bass guitars.
A very good Review , thanks ! Sound and Beauty , yes !
This is THE review a was looking for before buying this beauty. Thanks Patrick ;)
I like the facial expressions and head turns you put into your playing! 🤘
Im so in love with your playstyle.
Thanks for a great review...i will be ordering this bass soon
Mine's in the mail! Can't wait!
Great demo. I remember the first time I got my hands on my Stingray. I have a US made 4HH and nothing else sound quite like it. I play a Fender MIJ before that, so the price point is about the same as the Stingray 34HH (At least here in Germany it's about the same price) I like them both, but the Stingray just gives that extra punch and grawl when I needed it to play certain types of music. I ordered a Stingray 5 H yesterday and I can't wait to play it as soon as it arrives.
as an owner of one of these i think it sounds best in the middle position (all coils) with some drive, treble knob all the way up, amp eq mid boosted (especially high mids) and last but not least fresh strings. sounds quite similar to a wal bass if youre looking for that justin chancellor tone
What a coincidence, I just got my HH StingRay earlier this week!
So tell us what you like different about the HH than other bases.
Obviously you liked this enough before you bought it.

So for reference my other basses are an Ibanez SR405 and a Fender PJ Deluxe. The Stingray is so damn light, I thought my Fender was light but damn. It's hand down the best feeling bass I've ever played, and the pickup configuration makes it so versatile. It just plays and sounds better than my other basses, period.
This is a great Bass .. great review Patrick..
Love the sound of the stingray its so aggressive
I just ordered this exact bass yesterday, and after watching your video, I'm glad I did. Can't wait to get it.
How u found the bass so far?
I truly like my Sterling By Musicman Ray 35HH. Its phenomenal
I really dig the illustrations that show which pickups are being used 🔥🔥🔥👍🏽👍🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🥳🥳🥳
Cool, great video and helped me to decide, I'll get mine
If you keep up this sponsorship up with mm in the future I could see a Patrick hunter Sig model. 3 band eq, 1 single coil (to get some of your jazz bass sound ) 1 humbucker, p bass thickness of the neck and obviously in your signature green with a black pickguard
And I would buy it and play the hell out of it
Patrick, you never fail to give an honest review.
Sponsored or not, your review was 100% accurate.
I went with the EB MM HH Special, but the Sterlings are an incredible bass by any standards.
My new EB is now my "take it to the grave" bass. Tone & playable AF.
Almost forgot I have a girlfriend. I should call her, when I break a string.
What made you decide on the HH model? I personally don't need my Stingray to sound like a P bass or a Jazz bass because I already got those, and I'm wondering if it that big neck position humbucker gets in the way for slap.
@@57precision was wondering the same about slap.
Like on my jazz, I have the neck pickup dropped in a bit to keep from hitting it which muffled the tone a smidge. I'm totally into neck pickup tone and would only wsnt a stingray with the 2 pickups regardless if what "the stingray sound" is supposed to be.
@@57precision After playing both the H & HH models, I found the HH to be far more versitile in the tone department. Without naming each of them, I have the classic basses (P, J to Ric & Alembic). The HH can match each tone and more. I don't slap much (Les Claypoolonly), but haven't had any problems with the neck p-up getting in the way when I do. Plenty of space between the neck & bridge pickups for that.
That being said, my HH Special is the best of all worlds. I'm getting another this fall as a stage backup.
I don't know what's slicker. The playing or Pat's new buzzcut.
You are one seriously bad-ass bass player. Cheers!
I love your stile of playing. Cool
Hey Patrick, this was a really helpfull video, just got mine in the same color 😃🙃
😍
the hardware on my cheap SUB has been fine for 6 years except for the nut
Damn, that Position 2 sounds almost like an Gibson RD Artist! Great video, buddy!
Well I'm sold! This shall be my next purchase 100%
The single H version is my favorite bass. One pickup=less excellent sounding options ( I can never make up my mind). I also love the maple fretboard.
Saw this bass at guitar center looking for a p bass. This video only inspired me to get my grades up so I can get one for my Birthday 🤩
DAMMMN the snare on the first groove xique d+++++
Excellent presentation. Do not let the made in Indonesia! deter you. These are solid built instruments. I have the single pickup Ray 4 & a Squire 50s P Bass and both. are made in Indonesia and are well worth the price that I paid for them..The Ray34HH is next on the wish list.
Great demo / review...loved your playing! I was locked into getting a G&L L-2000 until this got me into 4 HH Stingrays. Any chance you could review an L-2000 (USA or Tribute model)? Pretty please! Would love to see exact same review (same beginning tune and sample rifs across all settings). I'll buy you a case of beer! 😉
I love the music man ray 34 the new 2021 for funk jazz
I own this same model, minus a pickup and 1 know, but same color, maple neck just like this one. Best, most reliable bass I've ever had. The only bass I've had that came close was my old candy-red Jazz setup, Ibanez 300sg
I love the mm style headstock
Nice ⚡️
Played on one of these and it’s bad ass right down to the turning pegs
The weight right the sounds right the necks right and wow what a price at 300 dollars
I have the 300$, mint green one, it is different than this one (which costs around $700) it has double humbuckers and 4 knobs. The 300$ you played is the same one I own, and yes it is a badass bass. But this one has twice the bells and whistles....
this man rocking is insane
Great ad.
I have the white one with the black pick guard and roasted maple neck excellent bass
Yes, such a meaty tone
*patrick proceeds to add distorsion*
Me: Oh noo, god, please, STAHP
1:15 - this is the REAL STINGRAY sound
Similar
I'd like to see how this compares tonally to the single humbucker version.
I want one so bad, but don't know which to get, I get it this one is a lot more versatile, but I might not need that.
Hi Patrick, great review! I'm very tempted to buy exactly this bass. Would you mind saying how heavy it is please? Ongoing back issues unfortunately..
Cheers!
I'm trying to decide whether to buy a Ray 35 HH or US made used EB Stingray 5 H. It's a tough choice. Both sound fantastic
This is a bass many producers use in the studio for songs, its very versatile. I just don’t like the look of these bases so wouldn’t play one on gigs haha, but for the studios they’re absolutely gold
I just got this Bass, and I am new to playing .. thank you so much for the video, any suggestions for a Newbie?
When you demo the pickup configurations, what do you have the EQs on your amp and tone control knobs set to?
At 6:16, what effects were you using I love that tone. Awesome review
I actually have a US MM Stingray 4 HH, struggling to gel with it. The neck is like a telephone pole. Sounds amazing DI'd in cans, awful through speakers. It's an odd beast.
The tone on that HH was so juicy,
Please do a second vid with just 10 minutes of playing and no yap.
Maybe a brief graphic of 2hat pickup and tone settings.
I'd almost play this on repeat just for the bass.
Question. If you woke up and there was a Sweetwater or Zzounds gift card for $3000.00, would ya buy a EBMM or a couple of Sterling's?
Hi Patrick, I would like to have your opinion on transit-B (trace elliot)vs flyrig bass (tech 21)
Tank you
Were all of the mids scooped out of it or was it recorded with the eq flat? I hope they sound better than in this demo.
I guess these are only for rock tone. Can’t find a video of anyone playing with any other kind of tone than mid scooped bass and treble. Do they do any other sounds?
Where do you have the treb/mid/bass set at?. I have the new 5 string and man these PU's are hot...I literally have all levels at zero...lol
You should do an hx stomp review and make a patch!
do you notice a volume drop in positions 2 and 4? I do, so I'm wondering if my humbuckers are wired in series & the split sounds are in parallel. Would rather everything be parallel.
OMG! Look that beauty!!!! I'm in love! Please send it to my house. I promise take good care of it. =)
Pat, does the neck pickup get in the way for slap/pop?
With Nordstrand pre EB pickups, boom!
funny how I'm looking at stingrays because I just want something that sounds like Christian Holden's Sandberg... maybe one of the fender active J's would be better for it though
How high do you set your pickup position both on hh and h stingrays?
When I heard that intro kick in I almost lost my shit
0:06 why it sounds like an active Gibson ripper? Perhaps it's just me idk
I am just impressed he can play sitting down😂 never could get that balance.
superb bass... I have a stingray5 hh... the only problem is its weight ;)
I just purchase this however I noticed that their is alot of fret buzz, is that normal for this model?
Just picked one up and almost don't like it. Feels great but I am just not connecting with the new sound. I guess I liked the harsh top end more than I thought.
nice
It would can you review Cort curbow 52, it would be great 🙂
Holy cow position 5 was tasty
Position 1 at 4:26 you should coils 1 and 2 but that's actually coil 3 and 4 we hear...
4:24 bridge pick up
4:38 position 2
4:51 position 3, both pick ups
5:03 position 4
5:16 position 5, neck pick up
🤘🏼🤘🏼
Harmonics come out nice on it ?
Why does all Music Man basses buzz ? (US made too)
Can you review the Harley Benton version?
🤘🤘🤘🤘
roasted maple? oh my my
Is slap a non-recommended technique for this instrument or it's ok?
Literally made for it
Can we play this without batteries ?
How is the *weight* on this bass?
The only thing that would improve this bass would be a pickup blend control.
Wish u slap on it , it’s sound dark no high end
